This movie was amazing. The ending always made me weep. It still does but that line, “The thing that hurts the most is not having a moment to say goodbye.” That’s like one of the most universal truths about life. Be grateful for all your loved ones, friends, acquaintances and neighbors etc. One day they won’t be here anymore. Cherish the time we have with them. And when you can’t say goodbye. The next thing you can do is give thanks and hold those fond memories close. They’re in your heart and you carry them with you until you pass it on yourself. Life sure is a trip but it can be so beautiful too
“But what always hurts most is never having a moment to say goodbye. I know Richard Parker was a tiger but… I had to believe there was more than his reflection staring back at me. I know it, I felt it! Even if I can’t prove it.”
Richard Parker was never a real tiger. He was something created by Pi’s imagination. Something he conjured up to stay strong while trying to survive out there. Once the journey ended and they reached land. Richard Parker left, almost as if Pi’s strength was saying “the journey is over my friend. Goodbye.”
Personally I dont believe this. Mostly because Pi speaks to the point that he wasn't given the chance at a proper goodbye from Richard Parker. Something to acknowledge and tie them to what they had gone through together. I personally believe its because he is an animal who does not think the way humans do and just tend to keep moving forward, even if Pi was special to him. Knowing this it still hurts for us humans who would like things to have a heartfelt goodbye when we leave each other for good. I also don't think Richard Parker was imaginary just due to the conviction with which Pi speaks of him and his story and his tears.
Richard Parker was real. And he wasn’t “just a tiger” he was special to Pi and the ending hints to us that Pi was special to him to(despite Parker’s repeated attempts to eat him lol) and you know that the story with Richard Parker is not only the better story than the one about the cook, but also the more truthful one considering how much more emotion and depth Pi gives when telling Richard Parker’s story
Really is a phenomenal story and a very inspiring one. Despite losing his family and everything else, he never made any excuses for himself, or looked at himself as some kind of victim, he became a humble and decent family man like his father was and a very warm and hospitable soul.
To my own Richard Parker: it might have been a very short time together, but I’d just like to thank you for being in that boat of darkness with me, many years ago. Without you I wouldn’t have survived. Thank you, we made it here, god bless you. Even if we’re not together, I wish you a great life.
RIP Irrfan Khan. His portrayal of Pi is one of the reasons this is my favorite movie. I first saw this movie at a very dark time in my life, and I know it cheesy and has been said many times before but it really helped me through a lot.
I feel like this is because his relationship with his mother was very solid. Like, he was confident she knew he appreciated her, but he never got a chance to show genuine appreciation to his father due to their rocky relationship
I get the feelinf richard parker was the dad reincarnated while the rest of the animals and story might of been fake the tiger might have actually been real very cleaver mkvie
richard parker is just an imaginary projection of pi's personality, to cope with his mom being killed and eaten by the cook. and then pi had to descend into that savagery to eat the cook as well. it's really not that sad or literal of an ending
Youre not entirely wrong brother. Though I believe you dont understand the story fully. Life of Pi is supposed to show what your own beliefs are. You get to choose for yourself which story you believe to be real. The story with the tiger or the story with people. Whichever one you choose should show whether you believe in God or not. To push back on what you say, id ask you, why would Pi cry for Richard Parker if he was never real? How can he describe the pain of losing him after everything was over so well. For this reason I tend to choose the story with Richard Parker But! Either way No one can say for certain what really happened and what didn't, which is the point about belief.
@@josuemorales7334except the guy with the experience can have a objective view can he not Belief certainly has effects but who can say if a certain belief or its source is true factual or real
