AF vet here and dfac food was great in my day... we had great cooks at maxwell afb.. went to Germany and ate in our hospital cafeteria and it was great too.
The air force barracks are like luxury hotels with all the amenities, golf courses on bases, landscaping, miscellaneous buildings and infrastructures and amenities are oversized and underutilized.
I love this place, I live close to an Air Force base, I even go to one of their middle schools, my dad also goes to the Air Force, so this is a completely normal Saturday for me.
I have to admit, I played some nice golf courses when I was in. BTW, all golf courses on base are required to be self sufficient. No tax dollars are used to maintain or operate them.
The air force wants to have the same amount budget like the other services. Their office building, barracks and other infrastructures are oversized and under used. They spent their budget on landscaping, golf courses and other amenities.
@J Plum I would say no because I have better vision, but I won't tell you what you can or can't do in your life, maybe if you get a good asvab score like 90 they will probably accept you because you are worth keeping
it's not really overpriced comparing to other markets, and let's not forget 25% discount and tax free when you shop there . Are you even a Military member , lol ?
Its either the Comissary or the DFAC and the DFAC cost $380/month and depending on what base you're on, they don't serve dinner on weekends or are just flat out closed on the weekends. You can buy all the food you need for a month, choose what you want (unlike the DFAC) down to the T, create a damned fine planned diet for your health, for about $250 a month. And furthermore, all the proceeds generated by the PX and Commissary go towards maintaining the base. Don't get me wrong, the DFAC is nice. Despite the cheesy cadence everybody sings in BCT, the DFAC is comparable to a Denny's IMO, you just don't choose what gets served. If I could just pay for breakfasts at the DFAC I'd eat breakfast there every day. DFAC Breakfast is bestest!
