For me, questions about life, universe and everything in existence, isn't how (I couldn't care less) , but why. Probably, the answers are all there, but we as biological entities just aren't able to see them. Great show.

Hi Pete, great video as per usual. I too have a fascination with all things space/time simply because we do not know the answers to a lot of the questions around it all and I love talking, listening and learning about it all. I believe the big bang happened (that was proven by science), and like you said, we are still expanding into space simply because the effect and projection of the big bang has not stopped, this is known as Hubble’s Law and there is strong evidence to support this like the redshift of distant galaxies and the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation. it’s accelerating due to “dark energy”. if anything I hear the expansion is getting faster... one of two things will happen, we will keep expanding and all the planets, stars, galaxies and everything else in between will become so far away from each other that everything will end in a "big freeze"... or everything will start to contract and everything will be pulled back together and end in a "big crunch". I also believe that everything happens for a reason and the big bang was no accident, there is always a reason or a cause of something, so something caused the big bang to happen. Even if it was just an "accident" something caused that accident to happen. And that is where no one has the answer, what was the cause of the cause of the cause of the cause and so on. We only have belief or speculation. As humans I believe we are only so intelligent and our capabilities are limited to how we were programmed. I also believe our consciousness is linked to everything in the universe, more than what we are aware of whilst we are alive, and all will be revealed when we pass. But for now, I love the idea of thinking about what is really out there, why are we here and where are we heading. I think we will never know the answers whilst we are breathing, so I choose to remain focused on the now, mainly around Microsoft security and governance, predominantly Microsoft Purview (Compliance portal - M365) (governance portal - Azure) and the collection of Defender suites lol 🤣

Amazing. Thank you for sharing. I too try and focus on the here and now for the most part, as I think that's what we are here to do. It is so fascinating trying to figure it all out though.

I don’t tend to spend too much time thinking of time and space, I love them in sci-fi tv and movies, but why we are here has occupied my thoughts far too much. Ultimately, I don’t think there is a reason beyond those that we make ourselves. Some people want to leave a legacy, others want to be rich and others just want to be happy. It would be good if it were like an episode of Quantum Leap and we all had an individual reason for being here, but that would be too simple! I’m an atheist too and think it’s more likely that we have been visited by aliens in the past. Religion confuses me, how people who believe in a god can go to war with others who believe in a different god just seems crazy. War in general is even crazier, the lives lost, and resources wasted just to fight people who are a tiny bit different to us. I’ve often thought that we will only put our petty differences aside when we face a common threat, which makes me think of Star Trek 1st Contact, bring on the Vulcan visit! 👽

Yes, a society like that seen in Star Trek would indeed be amazing. The last season of Discovery starts next week. I think once it is over I will rewatch the entire show. 👾

Einstein developed the concept of spacetime, and to him that construct was indivisible. People very much think about space and time as distinct entities, and that's probably why Relativity is notoriously hard to grasp. Quantum mechanics reveals the fundamental behaviour of matter, and it's utterly counter-intuitive, and indeed often nonsensical to my way of thinking. To the extent that some scientists in that field are pretty on board with the idea that the fundamental nature of reality is actually very different to our perception of it. IMHO there's no real reason to invent anything additional to what science continually reveals to us - reincarnation, God, whatever - the Universe is quite strange enough as it is 🙂! Be careful with the idea of fact and proof, at least in a scientific sense - theories are proposed to explain observations, and as long as ongoing observations are in line with the theory, it's a good theory. It's never really proven because an observation could come along that doesn't fit, and then the theory must be refined or abandoned. And just because it 'works', it doesn't necessarily tell you anything about the fundamental nature of reality. Consider Newtons theory of gravity. Useful beyond measure, but it doesn't tell you _why_ there is an attractive force between the Earth and Sun, or indeed offer any explaination of _how_ that force comes about. This is a bummer if you really want to know How and Why.
