Watching your video from the US, I want to say that I have great respect for the Russian people, their heartiness, resilience, groundedness, and genuine joy for life. I love your country even though I have never been there, but watched hundreds of documentaries on Russia, and more often than not what we get spoonfed here in the US about your country is a megaload of BS and lies. We're all people living on the same planet, breathing the same air, having the same needs, and in our hearts are all united, regardless of politics and the shots that the elite call. You're making excellent videos, portraying your country and its people in a way that is much of a joy to watch, and also learn! I'm a pensioner in Canada. I do the same just like your wifes Mom. You learn how to save money as you get older. That outside gym is incredible. I still exercise daily. Sanctions mostly target items we can all do without. Your life won't change if you don't get a big mac and fries.

Totally agree. Most countries have citizens who only want to live in peace and love, but who, due to political leadership in their own or other countries, have to live in an unstable society. The ordinary Russian does not want war, but in the long run will feel the sanctions on his body because of what is happening now. in the same way that we in Norway have high prices on fuel and energy due to the war.

They are being fed misinformation by the Kremlin-controlled media. If you as a citizen are constantly given misinformation - such as that your own country may be attacked, you will possibly be tricked into believing that war is right. What I was trying to say is that people generally want to live in peace.

Wow, your pronunciation is great. I lived in Russia a couple of times for a few months. I fell in love with the country, the weather and the people. I really hope to go back sometime and live in a small town. I visited Irkutsk and I that is a place I would easily spend a year or two. Hopefully better years are ahead.

I am a pensioner and live in Melbourne, Australia which as you might expect is a different experince, but what you showed us of your world and family, is basically what everyone wants. In Ukraine each town and village has there outdoor markets on a Sunday. Whenever I am visiting my partners grandparents, I love wondering around and getting the vegetables, meat etc. Even in Dnipro we do a big fresh produce / meat shop at one of the two big fresh produce markets on a Saturday. You get to know the vendors, and they know, we only buy fresh, good, chemical free food and meats as the kids, ate hyper allergenic and it's amazing how honest they all are. I imagine Russian provincial life is no different
@@NightmareLorelej There we go 🙂. And we have our market here in our small town of 10000 inhabitants on Friday‘s where people can go and buy all these things fresh. And one of my neighbours was until 1 hour ago actually loading his sales waggon for to go to market. Throughout the week he travels with his sales waggon to 4 different local fresh markets in our area. But I must admit I haven’t been to the market in 20 years or so …. I am to lazy I guess 😅. Haha, another thing I haven’t done in a long time (40 years?) is going by bus to the city 😅. But with my car being ruined by a HGW lorry (sliced the entire driver’s side open while it was parked outside a friends house) awaiting either repair or written off status from the insurance I thought I buy a 9€ ticket valid for a month to get me about using public transport. I could travel the country 24/7 by train (except the high speed trains), busses, trams, subways, any sort of public transport except aircraft. The bus ride to the city was comfortable and done in 25 minutes. Going by car would have taken just as long. But on the busses face mask are mandatory and that’s good to see.

I love watching your videos because not many show the town of Engels or the Volga river. My great great grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from a small village just south of Engels, they were Volga German. They never liked America and had always hoped to return to their village but unfortunately never had the expenses to do so. I've always wanted to move to Russia in honor of them and for the past couple years I'm highly HIGHLY considering it in the next few years. Although my family's blood is German, our heart and spirit is Russian and home is Russia 🇷🇺 🤍💙❤

a friend of mine moved to Russia from Texas recently. the only difficult part would be paperwork for residence permit/citizenship but he was lucky enough to get it all sorted out while still in th US and was coming as a full russian citizen already. his case is a bit peculiar and unique in this aspect - normally this part is much harder. anyways once you get this one sorted all the rest is super easy. he came here with almost no savings whatsoever but everythig turned out really nice for him. being a native english speaker you can be sure to get a job as a techer that will cover all the neccesary costs - rent, food, transportation etc.

Your experience is mostly in line with friends I know, and why some parts of the provinces can be a little run down and neglected, not all of them are. And how much do you really need to have a happy, healthy childhood anyway? Eli did a video on some of the forgotten cities in Russia and that was quite sad and moving, but it was also inevitable in some respects. Nothing really lasts for ever and as industry and work changes so do cities and towns. I know from my own life that we lost the local shows, the local produce, and it all got consolidated to chains of supermarkets. I only wish I could find a greengrocer, a butcher and a baker still. This is beautiful !! I have the fondest memory of Russia having lived there as an expat and I always tell my wife if you ever want to enjoy European beauty, Architecture, and beaches with a Midas touch of simplicity, it's in Russia. Although I did face some racism only in Moscow (ugghhh.. I am fair by India standards but darker on Russian Yardstick), I consider that as a fringe element nuisance compared to my experience in US.

I think the older folk like to go to local markets etc because they have the time to, and they can meet other elderly people there. Younger people don't have as much time to go looking for fresher or cheaper. Also, what a beautiful family you have! It's wonderful to see you and your beautiful little girl and wife spending time together in the 'real' Russia and still managing to share the experience with us too. I've lived in Australia for many year now although originating from Britain. The only disturbing thing about this video is that you and your wife speak English better than half the population of England!

A brilliant video and very informative. Nice to see the whole family enjoying the water. Your wife brought a lot of wisdom of the old ways with her mom's perspective on buying fresh and local and not eating out. I often compare the generations and for sure we have gotten very soft in comparison. The earlier generations withstood a lot of hardship and sacrificed a lot to give us a better life- we stand on their shoulders!

Just for a perspective, many of the products that you showed in the video are actually very hard to find here in Europe, like Jalepenos, "pepperoni" (well, here in Italy there is Salami Picquanti, which is the original pepperoni... pepperoni word actually means "bell pepper")
Here it is the cost of housing. I live on the west coast and everybody is rent stressed. A two bed room apartment 700sq feet is $1350.00-1600.00. no wonder why so many homeless.

I lived in Georgia, post soviet country, similar to what I see in your video, I liked it much better than America. Sure not as much material things, but infinitely better.

I’m impressed, Russia looks really nice and I’m looking forward to better times in the future when I can maybe visit Russia. In particular I’m very happy to hear that sanctions are not having much of an effect on normal people.
If anything, the sanctions are backfiring on the neoliberal west. Look at places like Germany and UK where energy prices are soaring hurting everyday people. Their leaders tell them to suck it up and deal with it bc this is the price of “democracy” 😂🤣🤣
Nice to see you and your family out and having fun. The kind of farmers markets you have still exists in a lot of places in the USA too (more so decades ago), but they have largely been pushed out to more and more rural areas, although there have been trends of trying to bring them back into areas that have grown more commercial & the cities. I think these areas have more access to one-off food vendors than most areas of the US does as we're dominated by chains and mom & pop restaurants. Some cities to have a good variety of food trucks though. There's usually something a bit familiar to be seen in videos of ordinary life in Russia. Having sanctions not hurt poor people is very good news. It confirms that their intent isn't expanding to hurt those who should not be hurt... at least in this aspect.

Regardless, sanctions aimed, they're doing more damage to Russia than Europe, though all sanctions are like war, they damage both sides, but one more than the other. Bombs are nonsense too, but when one side chooses them, the other is obligated to respond.
@@ferrariguy8278 I judge by my family, which is currently divided. The eldest daughter lives in Germany and I know how much her utility bills and food bills have increased. We also have negative consequences of sanctions in Russia, but they do not concern products and things of everyday use. Those who left were quickly replaced by others. Yes, I can't get on a plane right now and hug my daughter in two hours. I can't send money to my daughter, or order her a bouquet of flowers delivered to her house for her birthday, as I did before. That would have been desirable end leading to friendship rebirth sooner, but immaterial to ending this thing and not a primary goal of cutting Russia off to live on it's own. It's hard to see this. I'm in the US and our media tries to portray Russia as something other than ordinary people trying to raise their families and live their lives. I'm sure we're depicted the same way. There are real people who get hurt when governments can't get along. There's real suffering and real heartache. Real loss. I don't you or your family hurt. I've never even laid eyes on you before today but I don't wish you any harm. Maybe if more people could see past the propaganda and see people in "enemy" countries we could all agree to let old men fight their own fights while the rest of us live our lives. Zangieff, excellent video, delivering insight to how real people are living in Russia as opposed to those in Moscow or St Petersberg who reflect a fear driven existence. The take out is people living in the far east of Russia live normally, not luxuriously or with extravagances, but with little influence/impact of the political situation in the west of Russia. Sounds very familiar with east Ukraine … The best food is seasonal from the babushka’s at the side of the road ..it’s good how the elderly are looked after and they grow Their own food. The youngsters feel it I think … But the food in restaurants is very good and a good price you can eat well and fresh food.. Very friendly and family oriented. Good video

Wow! This is incredible, honestly this is amazing. I have to admit the conditions outside of Moscow arent as bad as I thought. I am a Russian and i live in the center of Moscow. Many people tend to say that Cities outside of Moscow lack in developement and people there are misreable, but this really is something. Glad you made this video.

Really good video...Basically how Im seeing life in rural Russia is how my mother shopped here in the UK in the 1960s/70s Buy items that she needed to feed the family daily, no fancy shopping Malls or mega size shopping malls...I now shop exactly the same in 2022...
Thank you very much for this informative and interesting video which focuses on the current economic situation in Russia. I think that pensioners, on the whole, have a different vision of life, as they do not buy just to consume like the younger generations, but as they made a lot of sacrifices to get their pensions, they are very careful not to waste this "treasure", trying to survive and even saving some money and this is the example that we should follow during times of crisis.
