Hi Sherry! I'm a mbbs student from AIIMS, Delhi and I hope for your speedy recovery. Like all infectious diseases, TB is a curable one. And once your treatment is over, there would be no trace of either the symptoms or the agent ( M. tuberculosis) in your body. However it is important to remember (and you've already stressed upon it so well) that we take proper precautions in the first couple of months so that we don't infect others around us. Also we should complete the entire course of medication (for 6/9 months or whatever duration depending on the type of bacteria , like if it's a resistant strain, and the organ that's infected) else the agent won't be completely cleared and the symptoms would recur or it might spread to other parts of the body. Worse, it might make the bacteria resistant and would be much more difficulty to treat. TB unfortunately is very much common in India and we all carry the tb causing bacteria inside us. Anytime our immunity falls weak, the bacteria starts multiplying rapidly and cause the symptoms. So it's important for us to take good care of our health, not just eat well but rather eat healthy in a balanced way to keep our immunity go strong. It's also important that each child after birth gets a shot of BCG vaccine, to prevent then from childhood TB. Its really very generous of you to share your journey with your veiwers and make us realise that our health is of utmost importance and we shouldn't ignore any symptoms as too trivial/ depend on self treatment as we never know how sinister it is. Unfortunately I learnt it the hard way, after I got diagnosed with crohns disease ( where multiple ulcers develop in the intestines and cause poor absorbtion of nutrients hence wt loss and bleeding in stools). I could relate to every word you said and I hope all the veiwers would learn from this. Again, hope you get well soon. And continue being our weekly dose of positivity. ❤️

The same thing happened to me, just a year ago.. I was having fever for 15 days, and no cough, absolutely nothing, just fever. I went to my physician with my mom and the doctor said me to do a malaria test which came out to be positive as he said, then he gave me medicines for it. The fever had gone for 2 days, but then it came again. Then my doctor gave me medicines for an anti- malaria course, which he told is necessary to cure malaria completely.. so I took them too. But no effect.. I was getting tired too easily, always dizzy and my appetite had decreased. So my mom took me to one normal physician living near us, who just checked my back with the stethoscope and immediately told my mom to get my chest x-ray done.. and the x-ray showed that my right lung was almost full of the pleural fliud, so then my doctor told me to do a pleural effusion test, which is very painful. I started my medicines on 9Feb'18 and the doctor said we'll continue it for 6 months, but my parents as suggested by a TB specialist, decided that I had to take the complete course that is, for nine months. The TB drugs, are really very strong, muscle pain, Blurry vision, rashes all these things are a part of the side effects. And Google just makes it worst! I'm 14 and I cried a lot when I came to know about my condition, I was 13 that time, I knew it will cost a lot, the treatment.. I knew I made my parents worried, they cried because of me, even I was disturbed. But now, I'm fit and fine. I was a chubby kid, people were shocked to see the weight loss, still are, but I feel I'm okay now. Your appetite may decrease, but don't be tensed you'll be fine soon! And don't listen to people, they just make our condition worse. In India TB was fatal before, but now it is curable. I lost 11kgs, throughout the journey but now I have gained 3kgs. Built up your immunity, eat lots of healthy foods. Eggs are the best, I'm a vegetarian, I couldn't eat it but you can! If your haemoglobin content is also low, eat beetroots, dates, carrots! You'll be absolutely fine, don't worry! Lots Of Love.❤️

@@GhostlyTalesUnveiled It is, for people who cannot afford it. And the treatment is available in Municipality hospitals. I'm from a well to do family, my parents could afford my treatment but I was insecure about the cost of the tests which is around 6-7k and the meds, I was insecure about my parents disturbance because of me. That's the reason I wrote it out, about the cost.

I had this when I was in 10th standard. I clearly remember I used to share water bottle with a girl who had just came back from some sickness. There is so much tabboo around this disease that she didn't disclose to anyone in school that exactly what kind of sick she was. She was probably still a bit contagious but she joined school because it was the boards exam that year. Well my dad is a doctor so he read my Symptoms and treated it well. I used to cycle to school but those days I literally was panting like a dog when I'd be back. And cough a lot and had fever. Health is wealth indeed. Lessons learnt: 1. It is okay to know that you are sick. Be confident that is is curable. 2. For others, try and not make the patient awkward. Though others must be cautious but not make the patient feel like an untouchable. 3. Complete your treatment. It takes months. For me the injections lasted 2 months everyday and antibiotics for 6 months. 4. Be grateful to have supportive friends and family and the privilege of being able to afford the treatment

I also got the TB when I was in 10th in 2000, because people don't tell others and don't wear mask they make other sick too. It's a big problem in India today. we need more education on this. I dropped out from school that year because I was so weak, I got TB in my bones so walking was so hard for me.

Sherry I can feel you. I was diagnosed with Brain TB 4 years back and it took an entire year for the doctors to realise until I lost my eyesight temporarily. It's four years now and I'm still under treatment. Every other day there is some kind of development in not so good way. I have had treatment under 14 doctors or so for eyes, ears, kidney, uterus, skin, bones, teeth and what not. Mine was not infectious but I was still so cautious of spreading it that I did not allow anyone to sit near me. Kept asking people to sanitize, kept my utensils and clothes separately. I mean I had a become a maniac in the sense that I did not want anyone else to catch it. My husband asked for a divorce, I couldn't work anymore and there was a financial crunch. I am teary as I write this and wouldn't wish it on anyone. It's been 4 years now and although much better I am still a long way to go as I fight myself through the divorce

Hey!!! I am a doctor who has survived tb! And let me tell you This, you are brave to have acknowledged it publicly because me being a doctor even my friends being doctors I didn't want them to know! There is a lot of taboo around it! I had similar experiences! I had cough and fever which couldn't go down! But I refused to get tb test done, coz as they as doctors are the worst patients.may be it was the fear of getting a positive report! I was doing my internship at that point of time.i got back home and the result was positive! I was shocked and broken! I lost 5 kgs in 2 weeks it was insane.i have severe vomiting as soon as I gulped my meds! I sat crying out I just wanted to be normal! My friend took me out for a movie coz my dad insisted! I could barely walk! I just slept in my Mothers lap for half of the time and other times I was lost! I cut off and did not respond to my friends.in a month my beloved pet died! It was a havoc! But I learnt and learnt a lot! About people and myself! About the little things to be grateful about! And how I should worship my body for surviving! I thank her each day! After 2 months into the treatment! Things got better! I started gaining weight, and going out! I had my convocation then! I decided to tell my friends.and I must tell you it took courage but I did it! I felt empowered and free! Truth is like that! I was crying seeing your video! And thinking about my experiences and lessons. The most important part of the treatment is you will come out stronger. Tips: Do not ignore cough and fever with chills. Blood in vomit. When you start the treatment make sure you are prescribed according to your weight or complications will follow. Never skip a single medicine. Complete your course. Do not skip doctors appointment. There is a scheme going on by the government which provides rs 500 to registered patient's of tb for a better nutritional diet.this might help a few. Lastly, you are a braveheart! Get well soon❤

1) never skip ur breakfast 2) include proteins in your diet 3) say NO to crash diets (it's ok to have those little extra pounds rather than having TB) 4) TB is everywhere in inda , all u have to do is keep ur immunity strong and diet takes the major role. 5) if diagnosed with TB , get tested for HIV as well. 6) look for symptoms like evening fever, loss of appetite, weight loss and off course coughing for more than 2 weeks. 7)reduce the stress in life, stressful life lowers immunity. 8) health workers should take more precautions. 9) don't fall for the social taboo abt TB , it is curable and anybody can get it; but prevention is always better than cure.

The tips that i can give is if your cough persists for 3 or more weeks then get checked for TB. Doesn't matter if you have dry or wet cough that is cough with / without sputum. Always wear a mask whether its you coughing or you're around people or in public where everyone is coughing. If you get diagnosed dont panic, try to stay calm and most important is to take the medicines given by your doctor on time and please please please complete the full course of meds. Thats the best thing you could do to get cured and not be infectivw. First and foremost people need to change their mindset towards TB and TB patients. Its 2019 people, TB is not a stigma its just an unfortunate disease still prevalent in our country.

I'm so glad that you came out with this. As a doctor in the UK, it really surprises me that there is not more TB awareness in a country such as India. Here, we recommend that anyone with a cough of over 2 weeks is advised to see a doctor, with TB screening almost being routine in certain high prevalence areas. Such an inspiring story. Hope you recover soon!

I started loosing weight and had fever. I used to have 0% energy levels. Moreover doctors made it worse as they were not able to diagnose anything. When I was diagnosed with it, I cried like anything. I felt so depressed. I still cry sometimes and ask myself that why it has happened to me? But somehow tried to keep calm myself. I am taking medicines regularly. There is extreme hairfall. Skin rashes too is another side effect which I am facing. More power to you for coming up and talking on this topic. Love you Sherry ♥️

I had similar experiences after my 12th boards. I had swollen lymph nodes in my neck that kept increasing . My cough lasted for more than a month but since I have asthma I thought the cough was because of it and I ignored it. I went through sonography sessions and the doctors thought that the swollen nodes were because of tuberculosis and I went through the tests for it. I remember being worried about it and researching about it. My reports were negative but they said that I had the germs in inactive state and had to take care of that and the medication cured the other things but even today I am scared of getting it again... Most important thing to note : While undertaking Anti-tubercular treatment do not skip even a day of your drug dose and complete the duration of the treatment. Prominent symptoms are:- 1.) Cough ( could be dry ) extending for more than 2 weeks 2.) Blood in sputum 3.) Low grade fever with night sweats 4.) Unexpected weight loss 5.) Loss of appetite Prevention 1.) Improve / enhance your immunity. Eat healthy and stay healthy 2.) Avoid going to crowded places 3.) Always use handkerchief/ cover your mouth while sneezing or coughing

Hi Sherry! Couldn’t resist adding my bit as I am public health specialist and yes, a TB survivor!. TB is CURABLE. The most important thing is to take your meds EVERY SINGLE DAY FIRST THING IN THE MORNING on empty stomach for the period specified by your doctor.. since I had neglected my first bout of two week cough (June) till the time of my formal diagnosis in the following March!. By thenmy TB had spread from the lungs to the hips.. and I had to undergo traction for a month ...anyway long story short..I had to take the meds for 18 months, however you may be taking the meds for 6 to 12 months as decided by your doctor. The things that I did were A) bed rest ..due to my traction. B) a very intense protein rich diet..since I’m vegetarian...black Chana soup, paneer in all forms, hummus, C)watched lots of movies shows and digital media D) did many short courses..free ones on Coursera and Udemy E) reminded myself that I am so lucky to have got it diagnosed and treated F) made a whatsapp group of close family and friends on my TB journey.. amazing support group with members giving me advice, sendin* me jokes and reminded for meds and Physio. So through this platform I want to thank you for sharing your journey and being brave.. remember next year same time..and everyday remind yourself...how do you want to see yourself next year...and visualise that Sherry every moment... beautiful, more sensitive, more caring and see how soon you will go through all this.. all my prayers and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I got bone TB last year in my ankle joint. I couldn't walk because of swelling and pain was unbearable. I used to think that probably I will never be able to walk but fortunately, I got good treatment on time. This is just a bad phase, take good care of yourself during this period and you will be fine.

I was losing weight for last one year before I was diagnosed with intestinal TB. I didn't cry hysterically. I completed my course of 9 months and at last discovered I never had TB. Now after 3 years I have lost all the weight that a human can lose without dying. I have gone through dozens of tests but still my disease is unknown. You should cheer up because you haven't the saddest story.

Hey, I have been through this infection myself. According to my experience I would say that make sure you NEVER EVER miss your medicines even for a single day. You need to take the medicines every single day for the whole course of months. That is extremely critical. In case missed, the disease can relapse again and then it can be more tricky to treat. Also, do make sure your immune system gets stronger such that you are not prone to catch infections easily.

I relate with you, I got super sick last week and had to skip college for days. Getting sick just annoyingly puts you out of routine, and you can't go out as much as you'd like. Wow. That was so brave of you to share your TB story. I am in the second month of anti TB meds for lymph node TB. Despite being a doctor, I haven't felt comfortable enough to tell about my illness to my relatives openly due to taboo this disease holds here in Nepal.even after being sick for almost 1 and half months, it never occurred to me that I could be infected with TB.but yes , I am constantly exposed to patients with TB, and I had been trying to lose weight and not eating proper meals. That must have led to weakening my immune system and then TB.had severe anorexia and lost 5 kgs.but now I'm eating regular and gained 3kgs back.Besides that, it is completely curable unless regular meds are taken and you have a positive attitude towards it.Eat healthy, improve your immunity.
