My dad owns the Miss Rachel out of Ceader Island and we do it commerrcially, trust me, when 800 pounds of shrimp and fish hits the deck, it ain't fun to pick them all up. We don't take tourist out on trips
I see a lot of people is got something negative to say..it's a family that is spending time with their kids..none of yall never did anything like this before..so before yall start with the negative things..yall should see what it's about
All of the bycatch fish are dying while the kids are playing around with the crabs which obviously live longer than Fish Out of Water. and you adults are standing there watching, looks like there are some red fish in there, which is obviously a game fish, that need to be thrown back before they die, just saying there probably isn't no reason to let the fish die while the kids are having a good time with the 🦀 crabs, they can do that after the fish are overboard, gee-wiz.
Go watch again. Everyone has to wait until the net is back overboard to avoid anyone getting wrapped up and dragged off the boat. The adults and the older kids do put back the living fish as quickly as possible. None of those are reds. Mostly Hog Chokers with some Spot and Croaker.
Sure let the fish die while the kids play with tongs. The adults should have thrown the fish back especially the flounder so it could have gotten bigger. But what do I know about conservation efforts I am just a lifetime license holder in the state
sandufloor most of the fish were thrown back especially the very 1 flounder. Those that are dead are gull food or kept and used for bait later. And so would expect a lifetime license holder to be able to tell the difference between flounder and hog chokers.
@@sasquatchadk Ya missed my point someone recorder these boys playing with tongs while the fish I saw alive still were gasping and flopping around. How about clear what fish are alive first then let the boys play. It is that kind of stuff that irritates me. Like the one video of a sting ray getting caught and started spitting out pups while the guy filmed the event. Put the animals back in the water already
sandufloor if you're talking about when we're waiting before sorting, it's because the crew is putting the net back in and we have to be clear if that so no one is dragged overboard. If you're talking about the sorting the crabs get cleared first so no one gets pinched, especially the little fingers. And it isn't that big of a table to let everyone get in.
@@sasquatchadk Nope near the end of the video the net was out and the boys were playing with the tongs chasing the small crabs. Why didn't the adults throw the fish back or the boys grab the fish. That is what concerned me, I just chocked it up to people that don't care considering all the damage those nets do to the system. NC needs to outlaw the otter trawl net. For every 1 lb of shrimp caught 4.5 lbs of none targeted species gets destroyed. I will be contacting NCWRC and the state legislature to see if this destructive fishing practice can be banned. This practice has been banned by every other state and the pamplico sound has had a huge loss of species. That sound is a nursery for many species before they travel to the open waters
sandufloor and if you look, what you 2ant is exactly what happens. Look at the pile of fish on the table. An adult hand comes in and picks up fish, the camera swings away and then back and the pile of fish is much smaller and the live ones are gone. If you want the nets banned that's up to you.
