🏄 A BIT ABOUT ME ☕️
I don't call myself an author because I don’t believe in labels.
I believe that story is art - that it's sacred, and that it is and has always been a force that changes and shapes our world. That's why I write, and that's why I create videos (even co-produced an environmental film). I consider the world my home, and enjoy submerging in unique cultures nearly as much as I love submerging in the ocean and riding the waves. I am the author of the young adult urban fantasy series The Blood Race, and am currently working on several new series's. Though I can be hard to find, I am easy to reach (and very fun to talk to) at: kate@kaemmons.com

There's a significant part of me that wishes I didn't use my phone so extensively for calendars, reminders and etc etc etc.

I would love nothing more than to go off grid. Social media is a massive drain on my creativity and productivity. But what keeps me from committing to it is just that I don't have anyone to talk to. I try to make up for the lack of a social life with social media. It's easily the hardest thing for me to do because I don't have a support system I can fall back on. Seeing others, even if it's through a screen, makes me feel less alone. And I've been alone for quite some time now.

Hey Michael, thanks so much for watching my video and leaving a comment. 🌞🙏🌿 It sounds like you are using your phone and social media in a way that is very mindful and healthy...props to you! Above all, you must find what works best for you.

This lol. But I feel like you feel more motivation to actually get out there and meet people if you don't have the convenience of escaping the struggle through the internet anymore. On the other hand everyone is so hardwired into technology today..

I've been living without a phone for years and avoid most social media platforms as well, for exactly the reasons you mentioned, and I feel so much more peace, joy, and creativity in doing this, especially when I go completely off-grid. 😊 I understand and can relate to everything you said in this video!

Yes, it's so liberating not having it near. On weekends, I set my phone on a chair and never touch it. My friends, coworkers, etc have finally gotten used to the fact that I can't be reached this way. I had to tell them 100+ times that I don't want to live on it when I'm trying to be present and engaged with my family or weekend activities. The only time I have it on the weekend is if I want to take pictures or film something.

This video has really inspired me to get away from my phone more. Sometimes I feel really connected to it, and it’s not a good feeling. Thanks Kate!!! 💜

I love your off grid emphasis. It's broader, more real, and more me. I was humbly searching for life away from a cell phone. But going off-grid correctly phrases my pursuit. I've written one book and many articles. My mind and productivity would love to see me as off grid as possible, and planning it. Many life habits are part of it. Including zero or even just scant use of a cell phone.

I agree with most of what you're saying so far (haven't watched the whole vid yet). But yeah, I still have my phone all the time, but I've tried to cut out a lot of social media. I mainly just stay on youtube for entertainment and messenger to talk to my friends.

I love this!!! Its so inspiring and really motivational. I'm in the process of planning an "off grid" writing trip. And I'm excited to use your off grid plan. I'm hoping I can do it sometime before the end of the year. 🤞🤞 Thanks for taking the time to show us that its possible in a world that makes it feel "required"

There was no B-roll of this "landline" you referred to... I picture a tin can on a string that you use to interact With your sister, since carrier pigeons tend to Require things like "food" and "rest", which can delay or distract. 🐦

K.A., I love watching this video! I don't own a smartphone at all, but I am a heavy laptop, tablet, and social media (especially Twitter) user. I honestly would have a very hard time ditching social media, as I have an easier time communicating with others through social media than in person or over a phone call.

I have done off grip, I started to delete all my social media platform. As in, totally no social media for a week then it turned into weeks, into months. But I went back because Im a freelance researcher and I use g-mail in sending datas. But yeah! Totally helps my piece of mind.

Enlightening video. I deleted social media 6months ago and with true honesty, I have not missed it. Its a huge distraction. Living without a phone completely has been tricky, but I have reduced my time using it, which has boosted my creativity and mental wellbeing. Perhaps a retreat away from technology is needed...

Goal: Keep only two things: Email and Zoom meetings. If someone needs to talk to me, I'll send him an Acuity scheduling link so he can book a Zoom meeting. Progress so far: I've gotten rid of social media and almost all texting apps. The only texting app left is WhatsApp, and I've used Screen Time to limit it to only one minute per day.

Their is an app for that hahahahaah. Actually I downloaded on my phone an app that is called chill. So really your smart phone if you use it the right way it can help you. I have chill reminders going off several times a day and they are little reminders to get back in your body and step back a bit. So your smart phone depending on what you do with it can actually notify you to step back and breath. They do have apps for that. But at least you have a phone and you are correct about something here. Originally a cell or mobile phone was used just for emergencies. That was when everyone still had a landline though. They took the cell out cause it was portable but it was only used for emergency purposes. Well, now looking forward, I wouldn’t even call our phones cell phones anymore. That really is not the thing we have today. Even a smart phone is not a cell phone really. We use that term cause that is what we use for the name of the phone or type of phone but really we have mini computers with a phone app. That is really what a smart phone is. It has made the cell phone really extinct. When I think of a cell phone I think of a flip or a slide out keyboard. Alright. Those are cell phones but our smart phones android or the iPhone is not a cell phone. It is really a computer with a phone app that is what the iPhone really is and what the Samsung and L.G. Smart phones are they really are no longer cell phones but we still use that to describe what we have so I do agree with that but the way you use your phone it can help you or distract you. Most people today don’t even use a computer. They use the phone cause we are living in a mobile society. So really the smart phone has become the computer. As we know early days of the smart phone the phone had to relie on a computer to do a lot of tasks. Now,,, the smart phone is independent. You really don’t need a computer for operation anymore. Even today the computer is going out f style cause of the smart phone. Again we say we have cell phones but as an iPhone user really what we have today is a computer with a phone app. But that would bee to long to say. “Oh let me get my computer with a phone app out.” Sounds kind of funny right?? So that is hwy we still use the term cell or mobile. Or we just say phone. But you can actually make your smart phone assist you in getting back to present. It all depends what you do with it and what kind of programming you do with it. Even the iPhone these days sounds like a mini theater. The sound system is so good in it it is amazing and even on some android phones like Samsung.
