Neat video. I've got one myself from the same year, though it was new old stock, so it's practically in perfect shape.

We had the battery version but the AC light was actually a hush button. In the winter of 1998 my dad bought a 4-pack of the kiddie/fyernerics alarms rebranded as Nighthawk. Those are the ones with the separate test/hush button. What was interesting about those is the alarm sounded in code-3, and would chirp for 5-minutes after pressing hush, or installing the battery.

We have a lifesaver model 1275 system in our home with 7 alarms. Just wondering if the Kidde P12040 prong will fit into the Lifesaaver 1275 three prong connection.

I had these in my house for a while (or at least very similar lifesaver alarms). I just replaced our detectors with Kidde FireX alarms, and we had the lifesavers for WAY too long. I replaced them a few weeks ago, and the old alarms were installed in 2007, so we should have replaced them *6 YEARS AGO* and my family just never bothered to do it. The lifesaver alarms were good though, they set off pretty easily and worked well.

Very neat video! There's actually been some rebrands of this specific model of smoke alarm, plus some other Kidde models here in NZ. For example, those smoke detectors you showed us have been branded by a well-known brand called Chuhb, now called Chubb Fire & Security. They rebranded those exact smoke detectors, but I believe only the battery version. I tried to get my hands on one, but the seller was acting weird so we left it. And then there is Quell, which is a division of Chubb, and I believe a trademark of Kidde, who also made/branded Kidde smoke detectors. However, the nowadays ones are a bit less similar, but there are still Kidde models that look like then. I currently own a decent amount of Quell smokes, plus one Kidde model. Thanks for the information!

6:24 hey whats my lifesaver 1225 doing here That is actually an very early version of the unit and a lot rarer. Got myself a lot of these types of Fyrnetics Kidde units very recently too. Obviously earlier models until 1999 had the diamond grille until kidde changed it to the current horn hole used in their newest versions like the i12040A.

Will the old alarm base fit a newer one installed in the ceiling?

What replaces these?

Ours is connected to electricity. Can you just pull those wires out of the back ? Because if you don't the battery compartment can't open.
