If you can access Courtlets house in Manchester there was an ancient sort of cage lift ( I know nothing about lifts) in there about 15 years ago, I reckon it’s still there, would be super interesting to see if you fancied another look around Manchester, Also there’s a very interesting modern tiny lift in Lloyds house in Manchester near the town hall, can fit about two people comfortably…

not been to the Arndale for many many years, my mate and i used to mess about in the lifts and escalators there. We were chased out quite a few times by security , this was 40+ years ago. I remember it being built, those were the good days 😂😂😂
Probably the emergency stop on Gen2 is harsh because the belts provide a lot of friction when compared to steel cables. I don't know how harsh emergency stops are on 3300/5500s though
the reason why the lift in the Trafford centre doesn't go to the third floor is because on the third floor it's a cinema and they only want you to go through one entrance to get to the cinema

What’s that “Interactive zone” in the museum? As manchester is the city of the Ocean software I would expect there to be old computer games. Those yellow spades in the floor of the gated lift look like some kind of safety device, perhaps to prevent trolleys or freight pellets from hitting the doors.
The interactive zone is an area with buttons to press for children. They can be fun but take up a lot of space. It is disappointing that the display of mechanical calculators in the basement was so small and compact with them all in sliding draws.
pre-2008: Make sure it is on inspection and safety is connected. Disconnect safety, wait a few seconds, switch to normal, wait a few seconds, connect safety. 2008 onwards: Make sure it is on car top normal, switch to cabinet inspection, switch to cabinet normal. Safety may or may not be connected when doing this. So you can do it with the doors open then jump on top and you get a full speed surf. This is the only way to get a full speed surf if the odd even protection setting is enabled, as it goes out of service when you open the door to get on top.
I imagine that I will probably make the papers again in some of the small northern cities and the newspapers there have little news to report and are over obsessive.
plus the reason that lift in the Trafford doesn't go up to the 2nd floor is because it's a cinema and there is one entrance so people don't get in for free as if it did go up to there you would be able to go straight into one of the screens for free
