you should also get some heat protection for the lithium battery, they do not like being in the engine bay as they hate heat and will lower its lifespan considerably.

Was thinking the same, not all are rated for under bonnet use. And even some that are “rated” void the warranty if the 80’c heat detection sticker flags. Under bonnet heat will also degrade the battery faster. Lithium are a great weight saving, just a few tricks to doing them right!

Yeah agree with this comment. Many are "rated" for under bonnet. However, any LIFEp04 will suffer advanced cell degradation with high heat. I'd suggest moving to the back.

@JonoSann
@JonoSann 11 месяцев назад
I came here to say this too. Al, you might want to check this out once you get the car on the road. From my experience with TD Patrols, engine bay temps are generally way up there, especially in Qld's summer heat. The lithium battery is located on the hot side of the engine bay, sandwiched between the coolant overflow/header tank and the exhaust manifold. It'll get way too hot unless you have some sort of heat shielding and air ducting in place.
@billroach2393
@billroach2393 11 месяцев назад
It's a fire waiting to happen. Stick it in the back cargo area, where most of the gear it will be powering will be located in any case. DC-DC charger should also be in the back, near the lithium battery.

Ford has a solution and its sitting in the engine bay of every na fairlane to nc fairlane they all came with a plastic battery box type thing with an intake that catches fresh air from outside of the body and directs it around all sides of the battery no idea if they actually work well or not but being a factory part I'd say it works atleast to a satisfactory level

I hope in part 3 you will fit the adjustable drag link :) That Li battery will die quickly under the bonnet - best to replace it with another crank battery, wire it in parallel, and put the Li in the back with the DC-DC charger. I had a little chuckle at the use of the word "budget" for this build - as a year 12 student (1968) my budget ran out at a rusty old FC which burned more oil than petrol.

Hey Guys, just make sure that you add some heat management around that Lithium Battery. Patrols are hard on batteries due to radiant heat. Its got the turbo on one side and the coolant overflow wrapping around the other side. Lithium also has a max operating of 60 degrees which you will probably exceed with the radiant heat. Lithiums may not just stop working like a lead acid if they fail 🔥🔥

When you talked about the Vacuum system setup you did and said that the vacuum pump that are on the early TD42's that are on the back of the alternator, describing them as "not that great" is wrong, they are absolutely terrible, I had a TD42 GQ with just brakes running off it, no power assisted clutch and 2-3 applications of the brakes and you were out of vacuum, even with the reservoir tanks. When i did my Turbo upgrade, which I swapped out the pump from 10mm to 12mm plunger type, i removed the timing cover while I was at it and put the TD42-T timing case on that puts a gear driven vacuum pump under the injector pump and runs of the Injector pump timing gears, that with the same vacuum reservoir tank and i never lost brakes again. If i was to do it all over again i'd use an electric vacuum setup as it is way easier to do and you can just use normal Alternators rather than the expensive ones with vacuum pumps

Both are not totally correct my man. LifeP04 is very stable at under bonnet temps, a good internal Battery Management System will cut off the lithium battery to avoid damage to cells, this one at 80°c (warranty under bonnet is company dependent). The gauge/size of wire determines where you can locate the battery to accessories. Al will be all over this and will not be an issue I'm sure.

Seeing a lot of comment about the battery location so... please research LifePO4 batteries TSF fans. They have come a long way and not so dangerous as the older unstable type lithiums. Personally i have been running a LifePO4 battery underbonnet in WA for 2 years and have never seen temps over 75 degrees at the battery terminals (installed a temp sensor to monitor this specifically). It has never gone into over temp, shut off or have i seen major degredation of discharge rates. Cheers and use your brain 🤙🤙🤙

The front badge could be a little spout, and the rear badge could be a little handle 🙂

Id be relocating that lithium asap to the rear gents, like AGM they do not like heat. Also the dc/dc charger in the back as well.

Probably wouldn’t put that lithium battery under the bonnet that close to the turbo. The BMS will cut out at about 60 degrees. Lithiums don’t like the heat.

19:27 rather than that, i'd use a two wire bulkhread fitting with the threaded end. Basically, drill hole, thread hole, thread fitting, crimp wires and you pop them in from inside the case. Decent quality ones come with an (adjustable) insert in the back, which you glue in place, which then flattens the wires to the case so they're not in the way of anything. On the outside, (depending on what you choose) you have a threaded plug type. Air and water tight, it's bulletproof and it won't ever damage the wires from dangling. Buy once, cry once type of bit. For stuff like this, if it cost 100 dubloons, i'd pay that much cause it's worth it. It doesn't, they're pretty cheap in the grand scheme of things. Not gonna name brands, there's a good selection across several of them, all have their good and bad points. I specifically use the metal type on account of being possible to thread them into the casement of whatever you're working on. I recently installed a temperature gauge on a gearbox and it's "muah" chef's kiss. Looks pro too.

7:15 LiIon and LiPoFe WILL degrade or fail over 70°C! Those tpye of chemical do not like temps over 20°C at all. Under bonnet temps will cause a problem for that LiFePo.
