A very practical vehicle with amazing winter and moderate off road capabilities.
I picked up this Forester mid 2020 when I gave up on finding a AWD Astro/Safari, I don't regret buying it and have enjoyed it quite a bit.

Got a garage kept, 2008 L.L.Bean with 13,000 original miles last year. Super happy with everything, trying to stay on top preserving it. It sounds like it will be a good one.

That's a nice spec, last year of the generation too 👍 Will definitely treat you well, if it was garage kept and relatively rust free there isn't much that will kill it! Just keep an eye on the temp gauge and coolant level I think 08 still had the head gasket issues.

very true report. We own it since more than ten years and all topics are properly described, thanks a lot. the only point to mention is, when you buy one where the back hangs low, it costs two grands to replace the shock absorbers, because they have an automatic height adjustment ( at least in Germany ).
@alwaysgoodinthewoods
@alwaysgoodinthewoods 7 месяцев назад
Thanks! Ah yes, the "saggy butt" as some call it, I bought the staggered lift hoping to combat that, especially while loaded, but it seems to be ok so far even with the high km. The correct fix as you say, is to replace the strut/shocks/springs all in one go. That is neat that yours has the auto load leveling for the rear, that is a lucury car option here in the west. That is a hefty repair bill, I have heard things in general are very expensive in Germany (but usually of good quality). Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment!
@shrimpu
@shrimpu 7 месяцев назад
Most people I know are NOT fans of the auto leveling feature. Subaru eliminated it in the last year (2008) of the SG9. My 2006 LL Bean has it. Like most people I know, when it goes south I will just replace with regular springs and shocks, which is not expensive, and I won't miss the load leveling function.

I have the same year fozzy and love it. I use mine for work so I’ll strap ladders on the top and tools in the cargo. Got 220,000 miles and still goin strong. Just a little oil consumption but that’s to be expected with these models.

Great content. Love the Forester! I have a 2017 premium and love it. I have 128,747.00 kilometers on mine and no issues yet. Just maintenance. No oil usage either. I hope it stays that way. Cheers 🍻

Thanks muchly! The SJ Foresters are nice and a lot of the previous engine issues of the 90s/early 2000s seem to have been ironed out. Head gaskets, timing belts, oil consumption, all seem to be things of the past. A friend has a 15' XT and loves it, thanks for watching!!

Hi That XT turbo a nice car, and if you get it, TRY not to jamm the gas all the time and make that Turbo Whine and hit warp drive. These Boxers are Prone to headgasket issues , and throwing a mega ton of boost at the combustion chamber on a nearly 20 year old car is going to shorten the life remaining in the head gaskets.... Easy does it, lasts a long time., always balls to the wall is a much shorter engine life span. Ever hear of HorsePower Hours? Have fun. Keep the tire side down..

I've had a 2008 for about 2 years now and I absolutely love it. Looking to upgrade the headlight bulbs to LEDs soon, and recs or tips?
@alwaysgoodinthewoods
@alwaysgoodinthewoods Год назад
Well worth it in my opinion, a few things, the low and high beam are separate bulbs so you will need 2 sets, or can do either or. On the forester when the high beams are on, the low beams stay illuminated, which is not the case with most vehicles in my experience. So for aesthetics and maximum visibility I decided to do both. I don't have any problems with the headlights icing over in freezing weather due to the leds running cooler, but ice does accumulate on the "brow" which it did not before with incandescent. Maybe start with either the lows or highs and make sure you are happy with them before committing to both. I went with cheapies off amazon and have had good luck so far. Thanks for watching!

Installing LED bulbss in headlight housing that is designed for halogen is actually illegal, AND the light dispersion will not be correct and you will end up blinding oncoming traffic. High quality halogens are the way to go.

The radio was purchased from Ali Express, not sure of the brand and cant find the exact listing but if you type in "2006 forester radio" a few similar options come up, its the one with the entire center bezel. You have to select the specs you want for accessories/ram and so on, a bit of a gamble and takes forever to ship but mine has been good!

Any increase in mechanical issues with the lift? Want a 2 inch lift for my 2005 forester XS that I daily drive. I take it into the forest a decent bit which is why I want the lift. Mainly worried about ripping CV boots which I’ve heard can be a problem.
@alwaysgoodinthewoods
@alwaysgoodinthewoods Год назад
I already had the typical ripped boot on the passenger side from the exhaust heat before the lift (high km, so I replaced both) Everything is holding up and feels stock still really, but most say anything over 2" will cause issues with no subframe drop. Not sure how many km I've put on since the lift, not much really probably 10,000 km+ so hard to say for sure. I have read about silicone toyota tundra boots that fit and hold up to more abuse but havent looked into it. I bet a lot of people are lifting older subarus that had weak boots and the lift just finished them off. When I out my springs in ill be going up another 1" so we will see what happens. Enjoy the Forester and thanks for watching and the comment!
@pnw8836
@pnw8836 Год назад
@@alwaysgoodinthewoods yeah I definitely agree that people are probably having older boots rip. My forester is at 105k with all OEM axles and they look good when I inspected them recently so wonder if I wouldn’t have issues for a while. The company I’d get the lift from (Anderson Design Fab) recommends A1 HD Cardone axles as an alternative to OEM which I’ve heard good things about. Maybe I’ll just pull the trigger on the lift closer to summer and budget for potential CV axle replacements 😃. I’ll look into the boot thing too, thanks 👍🏼
