Liger movie review by Sucharita Tyagi - If you thought Ahmed Khan and Tiger make the most nonsense Hindi movies, presenting Puri Jagannadh and Liger. Screenplay, script mein joh chal raha usko samajhne se pehle main 4-dimaensional space-time theory ko solve kar sakti hoon toh lets not even mess with that. I watch promotional interviews after ive seen the movie and its astounding to me how much this cast genuinely believes they’ve made a good film, or are actually wonderful actors successfully fooling us about their convictions during promotions. In a time when big budget Hindi films are not doing so well, I walk into to EVERY screening with my heart in my hand, offering it up willingly, take it and make it your own, I will cheer for you, for this industry. But when in return you give me dialogue like “tu gift dega, toh return gift doonga. Tu kiss dega toh lip-kiss doonga”, meri samajh ke baahar yeh hai ki itni be-zzati apni hi audience ki, kyun kari jaa rahi hai. “Crossbreed hai mera beta” aren’t the rumblings of a person not quite all there, but a matter of pride describing the protagonist, like human being are species to be experimented on.

no exaggeration, but this review was nothing short of a brilliant academic thesis on the dire state of current popular Hind cinema. executive summary: demand better, expect better, don’t leave your brains at home. yes ma’am! absolutely in awe of your ability to critique with such a light but deftly serious hand. your reviews are one of the genuine highlights of my week (big fan from South Africa!)

its not Maths. There are no "errors" or "mistakes" in movies. Movies and Music are highly subjective. I might hate liger but there is some guy in Uttarakhand who will absolutely love it. Give your opinion and move on. She gave her opinion(which is literally her job) and moved on. You say whatever you want and move on. That's it.

@@madanpaul having such a thought is great, especially understanding the value of co-existence is great. But there is a certain type of criteria which is required to be followed to make a good film. Despite the fact that Vijay has put the best of his efforts, the film still lacks multiple basic factors, which were very clear. BIRDS BORN IN A CAGE THINK FLYING IS AN ILLNESS. We have to eventually make them acknowledge that it was not good neither in terms of a good film not in terms of being ethically good.

Devarkonda has a huge appeal, & alota people will see this trash just outa loyalty, as they see him as one of them - and therein lies the danger! Such callousness, all for a bit of cash and popularity, without using an iota of sense, or taking onboard any responsibility - I mean "khoobsurat khilona", REALLY??! It was Karan Johar who asked the director to include Ananya in the film. The script writer and director must have been so pissed that they channeled all their misogyny, hatred and anger into her role. Waise bhi heroines are just eye candy in telugu films. They like fair women and nothing else matters as long as they expose themselves. Remember Rashmika in Pushpa? That's all.

Sultan did a splendid job in writing the heroine as well as the hero. Flawed but capable. This “crossbreed” venture fell massively short of expectations. See, you can only write so much in a fighting movie where the hero is an underdog because this trope has been done to death. But, you can vary the taste you leave in the audience’s mouth by writing better characters. OTTs should reject this movie from their platforms.

I really wasn't expecting much from this movie since I saw ismart shankar and romantic PJs recent ventures. The trailer was a disaster but I was really shocked to see the level of promotions that went into this. And I can't believe that this movie had come from director who gave pokiri, badri, temper, neninthe. But after watching the failure of his recent ventures I wonder why VD wanted to play this part and KJ produced.

Kind of a difficult topic.. i am of the opinion art should not be censored.. don't agree with it don't watch it.. but it is also true that a large percent do get influenced by them.. shows like family guy punch both up and down and tell those who object to it that it is just a show.. only solution i see is for people to understand not to get inspired from them..

Just watched the movie. This was so bad. Feel sad for Vijay. I have a feeling Vijay accepted as it was Puri, but I am pretty sure Vijay realized this movie is stupid but he can't dare reject or walkout of Puri movie. He could risk getting banned in Telugu industry if he did that. This movie is 99% Puri mistake. Easily one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time.

I wonder how actors agree to do such films. These are times when viewers reconcile the character with the actor in real life. Recall how VD justified Arjun Reddy in his interviews. Most actors admit they keep the job uncomplicated by focussing one dimensionally on their character. Larger messaging doesn't matter for them. So maybe film schools, acting coaches need to change the approach first and need to ingrain in actors' minds that it's not the intent, it's the IMPACT that matters.

People need to understand that movies like these are an entire genre of their own. Like we NEED to actively start categorising them & addressing them as such when talking about them, reviewing them. Its not a bhaag Milkha bhaag sports film. Its a sensationalized, appealing to the common man's "main bhi hero ban sakta hoon ek din" dreams, purely "leave the theater w pumping adrenaline & feeling good about yourself" type entertainment. Which isn't a bad type of genre, but it also isn't real life which is what people sometimes confuse these movies as. And that's the growing concern with this genre of movies...the sensationalization of real life that promotes misogyny, bigotry etc etc. I wish your review could reach those who need just a slight reality check, not to break any hopes or dreams but just to pull them out of any far-fetched illusions.

Dear Suchitra, thank you so much for this review. Personally I haven’t watched this movie however your review points out so many flaws which the writer of this movie could have thought through. I feel the Influencer part was just lazy writing however how misogynistic things are being normalised completes baffles me. It also shows that yes, we as audience really need to start demanding better content from out film makers but I think that won’t happen until people are willing to accept that casually saying that Woman is at fault for Man’s Failure is just not acceptable and neither is punching below the belt in terms of colour or height

Jo jo filmein yeh industry last do saal se bana rahi thi sab ho rahi hain ab release and I don't if they will learn from it and make better choices now. I don't know. But all I hope is that Brahmastra gives me some hope. Not keeping huge expectations from it. I don't want it to be infinity war but atleast after I come out of the theatre I should be excited to watch the part 2 in my head. Baaki kuch galityan kar denge maaf. P.S. I enjoyed Laal Singh chaddha. Good adaptation. Apart from few hiccups. I totally was in sinc with the idea that they wanted to sell. So it worked for me.

Hey Sucharita I always enjoy your take on films and clearly this movie is regressive garbage but when you pointed out how Ligers are sterile it kinda felt like you’re appropriating sterility with something ironically (in this case) unmasculine? Isn’t that problematic too?

I agree that we have a sensitivity as human beings for all walks of people. This is strictly from the animal world, but in the wild being sterile is a disability. Because in nature, untouched by humans, survival of the fittest is visible and any species with anything other than ideal is considered weaker. I so agree with everything you said ! Don't understand why audience will spend their hard earned money on such regressive movies ?!! If Liger becomes one of the highest grossing movies of the year then i will lose faith on humanity. Like I did after watching the box office success of Kabir Singh ! And even the recent movies like Pushpa and KGF ! 😔

Do you think filmmakers with films coming up, watch the reviews and see audience response to films like this and get worried. Would Ayan Mukherjee be like "oh fuck what was i thinking???" Or do you think they are like "never mind these elites on social media, masses doodh chadhayenge poster pe, all will be fine"?

@@Lazymath007_ No effect whatsoever? Why do scenes that promote misogyny, and toxic ideas get the maximum reception from people in theatres? Why do street harassers use cinema songs/tropes while approaching women? Have you heard about the innumerable cases of harassment, assault, or sexual assault? Cinema did not create patriarchy, but it re-inforces, and emboldens it.
