Greetings from Japan! I made this cornbread yesterday. It was my first time eating cornbread and it was delicious. The recipe is spot on, perfect fluffiness and the bread gets a beautiful golden brown color. Thank you for sharing your recipe!
My 11-year-old son showed me your video two weeks ago (he loves cooking) and we've made your cornbread THREE times already. We love it so much! Thank you!
I just tried your recipe! It is GREAT! I wanted LESS BUTTER! You use oil! Less eggs! You use ONE! You use oils the pan! And the cornbread is LIGHT AND DELICIOUS!!!! Thank you SOOOO MUCH!
Shawna your recipe was easy, easy, easy, in threes. you're right and having a light corn bread to serve makes all the difference ! thank you for your recipe !
Perfect! It is not too sweet and not dry. Perfect for real food and not not dessert. It was great with "chile con carne". 1/4 of the bread was gone before we even got to the the table. Beautiful browning on top. Thank you for sharing not only the recipe but also the story behind it. This recipe is a keeper.
Love the simplicity of the ingredients. Cute how you remembered the other 1/3 cup of milk at the end. Thank you. Just made mine and I didn’t have to run to the store to go get some buttermilk. It’s in the oven now, can’t wait to cut into it to see the inside!!!!
Thank you so much for this incredible recipe! It was exactly what I was looking for. They came out great and the broil at the end made them perfect for me.
Hey Shawna… I finally found cornbread on your page that suits my taste buds. I did add a little brown sugar to the white sugar and replaced the oil with a little butter by melting it first in my cornbread pan while heating the pan in the oven. Then, cooked at 375 for approximately 30 minutes. In addition, once the cornbread began to brown while baking, I covered it so it would not burn to finish cooking throughout. It was absolutely delicious and perfect. Thanks for showing your video.😄🙌🏽👍🏽😋
Hello Shawna, I have to say thank you🙏🏼 for sharing your Grandma hallelujah recipe 😃 I tried it and it turned out great 👌👌👌i couldn't stop eating it. It was that good.

Just accidentally came across your channel.. your video was really enjoyable to watch. Thank you for sharing I’m defiantly going to be making some corn bread using your instructions. Love from Portugal x
I love the way you cook. You have a beautiful attitude and a sweet disposition. I made cornbread today 1st time ever! I had already started mine on someone else’s recipe when I saw yours, but they’re not that much different. Just an old Batchelor learning how to cook. Made a pot of black beans today also. : )
Hey Shawna. Awesome and fantastically easy demo. Love me some jalapeno cornbread! I've lived in Germany for a long while now and always liked to bake back home. The measurement system here is a lil' diff though lol. This made me wanna bake again! Thank you :)
Thanks so much! Just chop your jalepenos and add. Here you go.🙂 170 grams flour 80 grams cornmeal 17 grams baking powder 65-70 grams sugar 5-6 grams salt 80 milliliters vegetable or corn oil 1 egg 400 milliliters milk Place all dry ingredients in a bowl. Wisk. Add egg and oil. Wisk. Slowly add milk until it looks like cake batter. Pour into a warm skillet or muffin tins. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 min.
Baby girl your cornbread recipe is the STUFF. I made it for dressing. It almost didn’t make it in the dressing. Thank you for sharing. 1 1/3 cups flour 1 cup cornmeal 1/3 cup sugar 3 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 1 2/3 cups milk 1 egg 1/3 cup oil Pour in preheated skillet 400° Cook for twenty minutes To brown more place in broiler for 1 minute
Shawna. Really, really enjoyed your receipe. Very similar to my grandmother's. Made it immediately to go with my collard greens, ham hocks, and potates...your cornbread made the meal. Ty....Buck in Texas
Thanks for watching my video.I forgot to add the oil though. The complete recipe is: 1 1/3 c. flour 2/3 c. cornmeal 1/3 c. sugar 3 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1/3 c. oil 1 egg 1 1/3 c. milk Bake on 400 for 20-minutes.
That looks great. I've been trying different cornbread recipes to have something to go with my pinto beans and I think this will finally be the one that satisfies me that I've found the best recipe! Thanks for making the video.
Jeffrey Harper I think you'll find that this recipe makes a very good light and tastycornbread. I forgot to mention that you'll need 1/2 cup of oil right before you pour in the milk. I guess I was so anxious that I completely forgot it. Happy cornbread making!
Thanks for posting the complete recipe. I wondered about whether it needed oil/butter as I watched the video. I can't wait to try it. Have got a bit of a bug and need something light and easy to eat. This will go great with the chicken soup. Hugs to you and your sweet grandma. This may redeem me in the cornbread department with my family. All the recipes I've tried so far have been dry. They've all been at 400 and cooked for half an hour. Hoping this one's the charm. :)
Shawna. You're right. This bread is heavenly. And NO oil. Not a bit crumbly. Really moist. AND it is a recipe that works at high altitudes. Thank you SO much.
Hi Shawna! I wanted you to know that I doubled your recipe in a 9 X 13 Pyrex baking dish and it came out great! I added the oil that you mentioned and baked it for 25 minutes. I did not preheat the Pyrex dish for fear of breaking it and it worked great! My family thinks this recipe is terrific too! What a blessing! Thank you!!!!

Just wanted to say I tried this recipe last night and loved it. And I'm glad I read the comments so that I could add the oil, although I forgot the egg (and it was still delicious!) I threw some fresh jalapenos in there and am in heaven. This one is going in my recipe box.
I’ve made your grandmother’s cornbread every which way. I’ve used buttermilk. I’ve added blueberries. I’ve added a dollop of sour cream. I do sift my flour, that’s just something from my mamma, it makes your cakes lighter. Flour sits in the package on the shelf for months. Thank you for posting.
Shawna, I just love you! You are so adorable...and I cannot wait to make this tomorrow to go with my chilli that’s going to be cooking all day today, overnight, and all day tomorrow. I think your “Hallelujah Cornbread” will be PERFECT! Thank you! 🥰😘
