Duncan F. Oh great. You're one of those guys. Question. Do you show up to parties to tell everyone you don't like that you hope they have a terrible time?
I've followed this since the inception and concept of bringing this device to light, no pun intended. And, I'm sure gradually over time it will certainly be a capable device, but the pricing and software currently are its biggest drawbacks. In any case though Michael, thanks again for another killer video! And, tell Justus thank you for his awesome work at hand as well!
frist time seeing the device and i totally did not expect a $2k price tag! image quality between the website and in the video are stark... so much hope for a pocket camera!
As you said, it seems a lot like a prototype and even then, the price is absurd. Who would spend $2000 when they can get an infinitely better DSLR? And with no video, they might as well wait for the Snapdragon 845 so they can shoot 4K60 + HDR.
David hunsinger at least the iphone is more usable then this but really if i have to choose a smartphone right now, i would choose oneplus 5t hands down.
over twice the price of the Pixel 2XL 2-3 times as bulky as the Pixel 2XL takes worse photos than the Pixel 2XL 10 Cameras does a worse portrait mode than the 1 on the Pixel 2XL No front facing shooter unlike the Pixel 2XL Pixel 2XL is a multipurpose computer, this is just a camera Did I mention it's well over twice the price of the Pixel 2XL? But hey, props for having a headphone jack lol
oh yeah, to be clear I never mind attempts to advance technology, I hope they keep making these and refining it, I just dont think its in the state it needs to be in at the moment
Interesting idea, but really not seeing a lot of people using it. I do see 3 cameras happening on phones, but that is about it I think... Still a nice concept idea, but seems to fail to impress ugh
Michael, I really appreciate how you admit that you "don't have expertise needed" to test the camera. Being humble is one quality I found in you, and I always love your unique perspective on mobile tech. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the tripophobia detail, the pictures I saw on Instagram of this on ur feed were terrifying but the video didn't trigger it for me. Love the content creation
this camera is now on amazon for $130. is it worth the buy in 2024? can you get the images off the device and on to a computer? I’m hearing there’s no more comp support.
What the hell 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 This things has so many lenses it looks terrifying. I want oneplus to colab with this company at some point. To help them out in the camera department.
Mediocre? Those test shots are hands down some of the worst digital pictures I've seen since the late 2000s. I'm sure I was taking pics as nice as those on the OG iPhone.
So he takes bad test shots :) Judging based on one non-photographers test shots isn't the best idea -- come see the photos taken on the Light L16 in the flickr group: www.flickr.com/groups/lightl16/
When I first heard of the L16, I was excited to see what it promises. But after seeing this review I am turned off by it. Especially the price. 2000 dollars is insane for the quality of photos being captured. The fact that the L16 can be used as a smartphone shouldn’t give it a pass either. For 2000 dollars I can get a OnePlus 5T along with a Fujifilm XT-20 or some other similarly priced professional camera with probably some money to spare for one or two of inexpensive lenses to start off with. The L16 is a really neat concept though, but I’m not convinced anymore.
The low light and dynamic range / focus have been DRAMATICALLY improved since it’s release. It easily rivals DSLRs in image quality now. You get to see the full image quality after you export a DNG from Lumen and post process .
Saw a listing on ebay was instantly intrigued by the amount of sensors, but I am disappointed after seeing those sample photos. Might still buy one if the listing is still up later just because its look is so striking
"Not yet" "Not ready" "Not activated" How long this is going to be a prototype? Mr.Mobile when did u made the review bcoz I've seen this camera on YT like 6 months ago and still this is a prototype alike? This is a outdated device already.
I don't have the expertise to use this camera, but I'm gonna review it anyway like a camera. even though it's a demo and I'm not a photographer. great.
@@lightRumors I agree . With the exception of the watch I thought the L16 images were better than his phone. It appears Mr. Mobile likes the hyper jpeg version of reality as opposed to a raw image.
Great review but I'm a little suspicious about those test shots you took on the L16 vs. the Pixel 2 XL. Are you sure the camera settings were the same for both devices?
See, I was super excited about the tech behind the concept, hoards of lenses with different focal ranges and settings, able in theory to take outstanding images! Including an innate ability to take outstanding 3D images, I believe that this was what kicked off the multi sensor phones we are seeing today.
They want $2000 for a beta unit? NO THANKS! They are crazy to think that. When a cell phone can out pace a dedicated camera its time to go back to the drawing board. Great review by the way!
Michael, are you sick by any means? Your voice sounds a bit muffled. I hope you are going to get well soon if that is the case. Also, happy holidays Michael! Happy Christmas and Happy New Yaer in advance.
this device is not for point and shoot photography. you have to tinker with the manual mode to utilize its full potential. I'm like shaking my head with the photos you got. I love this review though :) so yeah
Jescae Jul Saavedra Sorry, but this is not true as the camera even doesn't have a shutter priority mode/auto iso, manual focus, histogram or manual white balance. Therefore this product is clearly not intended for using manual mode! By the way when you look at 4:29 the shutter speed doesn't seem to be fast AND there is a lot of noise reduction. Therefore in this case manual mode wouldn't help.
Light thought: you know what would make better pictures? a shitton of cameras all squeezed together! Still, great video as always and an interesting looking device!
Thanks for the review. It is a great idea to make a professional camera more compact.. hopefully they weed out some of the bugs and design flaws in the future.. or another company can successfully create a similar camera that is more functional.
Kirk: Ready the Video Camera, prepare to record on my command. Helm: We don't have video recording, Sir... Kirk to Capt. Harriman: You launched a camera without video recording? Capt. Harriman: The Video Recording wont be installed until Tuesday...
Danté I'm also hoping he does that review soon. it'd be nice to see it compared to budget devices of 2017...as well as it's predecessor the Moto X PE(2015). Michael is uniquely suited to give us just such a review/comparison.
great review, was interested in this when it was first announced, but seems like they have a TON of issues to work out before it can even compete with cheap smartphones
This is actually really good proof-of-concept. It obviously needs improvement, better image sensors. If paired with smart camera software (like Google Pixel 2), it would be possible to make an awesome "Moto Mod" for smartphones. Photography enthusiasts would be interested for sure. Wider range of focal length would be a great addition - 14~105mm. Camera in Google Pixel 2 is good, but it lacks flexibility in terms of focal lengths and manual controls (RAW, flat video profiles).
I kinda dig the novelty of all the camera lens, but then the reality of price, bulk, unfinished software, 5mp cheap Android phone like picture quality, and etc come up.
I saw one guy using this several days ago in brooklyn bridge park, it was actually much bulkier than you'd think. Never knew it was 2 grands. Most ridiculous camera price of the year.
