Fun Fact: if you can't draw backwards, just draw it like you normally would and then flip the entire image!

You should get a shutter release trigger so you don't have to hold down the shutter button. Less blur. Great tutorial! :)

Okay so I'm having a bit of trouble with the remote I see vidoes say you press it once to active shutter then press it again to capture image. But when I press it once it takes the photo and no light painting is captured. also I can only achieve a light painting picture from automatic settings pulling focus in auto when I manually shoot all I get is black amd camera saying subject to dark .

Or just enable the bulb timer in settings and set it for whatever amount you want the curtain open for. It's also is wise to set the 2 sec delay timer on as well for the shutter so no shakey shakey.

I have a question- the flash light you are using does it have different colored led lights? I am trying to find one on amazon but they are all in white. Do you have any recommended online stores to buy an led different colored lights. Thanks. Love your videos

This is fantastic, the whole concept.. but how does the camera not capture you in the entire process? Or does this involve some post processing to mask unwanted elements?

It depends on what you are wearing, I recommend wearing all black, sometimes my shoes showed up cause they were pink, but if you want to be a pro just wear all black and black shoes/gloves, sometimes you may see trails of yourself but you can use a software called Luminar to erase the trails easily, I'm doing a giveaway of Luminar actually right now here: premieregal.com/giveaways

how do you light the background? the scene seems very dark for the camera to catch any light from the background!

thanks, this was helpful. But why you are not in the picture? You were there in this whole process, I understand that black clothes were used to make it dark in the image, kind of comfolage. Not sure if that black clothes is sufficient or something else was done too? Also, if I want to do such scenes in day time, in bright room, how to do it then?

I’m a lot confused. Ok you are saying that to use bulb you need to find someone or some way to keep the shutter button pressed the whole while you are doing your thing. There must be different cameras that you push shutter button and it will stay open until you push it again. So my question after watching so many different videos it depends on what camera your using as to how the shutter button works ?

You shouldn't have to in most instances because there's not much light reflecting off of you and you're usually moving fairly quick. So sometimes you'll see a person blurred if they stay in one spot a lot. I think that's also why she wears black.

the person holding the shutter is moving the camera. Thats why u don't get a steady background ..

You forgot to mention, that you need a cable release with a HOLD option in Bulb mode, when you are on your own...otherwise the shutter closes as soon as you let go of the button

You say you need a DSLR or Mirror less camera, not true you need a camera with Manual mode so any camera with this will work. At 10.34 you say someone will hold down the shutter for the whole of the exposure, doing that will possible cause camera shake( movment of the camera causing blur).Use a cable relaese or a camera remote . Please watch a few more tutorials on light painting before you give out info like this.

Paul, of course there are many ways to do it and new technology and apps allow folks to use their phone camera now. This wasn’t a master class, just a general overview on what I do and my experience - everyone has their own best practices that work best. If I had a remote I would have used one, but I didn’t, so I grabbed a partner. I didn’t talk about all aspects of light painting but happy to make more that explore another method as well.
