This is a great video for showing everything. The illustrations of the knots was simple and ideal for a learner with the large size materials and knots easy to follow. This is so far the best example for this that I have seen across the internet.
Never seen anyone do LRF on a beach before, you've opened up a whole new world to me I'm gonna be trying that. In fact I think I think that's the best video I've seen on LRF
Thanks for posting. A really interesting video for me. I took up drop shot fishing a few weeks ago (a technique I already love) and have been catching Perch and small Pike on my local canal. From looking at RU-vid vids, including your excellent one, I can now see other ways to use the gear I've already bought. It appears there is no end to the variety of waters, both fresh and sea, that can be fished with this truly versatile tackle.
Great video - I have been toying with the idea of LRF from the beach on the Norfolk coast, where I am from, but didn't know if it was going to be worth a punt or not. You have convinced me to have a go - although I am not entirely sure LRF gear is quite man enough (the water isn't as calm as in the first part of your video) so I am going to step up my gear a little - but still use your techniques. Top job.
Nice variety of fishes! I ultralight-fish SoCal coastal water this past several years (new to life-listing) and now have 38 species. Hope to keep adding to the list opportunistically travel plans allowed. Thanks for sharing!
Good video but staggered by how many people doing LRF & bass fishing & they drag the fish up the rocks. Ok none where hurt this time but it makes me cringe to watch no one using a net. These are the fish of the future. For catch & release to be respected in full these fish need to go back in same condition as they come out. No excuses gentlemen
Just getting back into fishing hopefully going to get out soon maybe pop to blyth because I’m local. Love your videos 👍 videos like these always a help
Great video fella, thank you for sharing. Two questions - 1) the water looks fairly coloured, I've had the mindset that LRF or for that matter, any lure fishing, is really only effective in clearer water? Whats your thoughts on trying this in the murky waters of the Bristol Channel LOL. 2) what is that clicking/beeping in the background? I've noticed it on a few of your videos, it sounds like a fax machine! Keep 'em coming dude, love it.
Thanks Phil, the water was quite clear when I filmed this but is usually quite murky around here so it’s worth trying in the Bristol Channel. Sorry about the beeping it’s the microphone picking up the sound of the GoPro I’ll have to try and keep it further away from it or get a new mic.
Gary have you done any LRF fishing on the south end of Hendon Promenade? I’d be interested to know what species you’re likely to catch. Great videos mate 👍
Gary, been watching your videos for a while now, great stuff mate! Only ever fished on occasions but I have a few rods, including a 9ft spinning rod which I bought for river fishing. Will that be any use for LRF and ok for spinning for mackerel? Very local to you so it’s great to see where you fish from and really want to have another to! Cheers!
Hi Ian, thanks. The hooks I use for drop shoting are carp hooks I think they are size 10 and 12, I'm not sure on the size of the hooks on the jigheads I think they vary in size depending on the brand I usually use 3 gram and 5 gram jigheads.
Hi Gary, great video. Just a quick one. I'm from north shields and live my LRF during the summer but how do you find LRF in the winter on our coast? I've been told my best bet would be to head to the beaches on a calm day and target flounder. Cheers
Hi Daryl, thanks. I haven’t been able to get out and do much lrf fishing over the winter but yeah I think the beach for flounder would be a good choice and if you don’t have any luck on the beach you could try the rivers for flounder, whiting and codling. I’ve read a couple of catch reports of some decent flounder and smelt being caught up the river Tyne from the British Airways carpark. Let me know how you get on thanks.
@@fishingintheukgarywood cheers Garry, will do. If your ever on the north side doing a bit of LRF give me a shout on Facebook. Be canny to meet up. Got a canny mark on st Mary's island for wrasse.
Good vid m8 where did you get the dropshot lures from im new to the game and aas wanting to get something different any tips, advice would be great thanks
What a great video and you make it look easy 👌 what is the rating of your rod please? I'm looking at one between 0.5-7 grams, either that or the next one is 2-15 grams. Keep up the good work.
Hi guys just getting into led and lure spinning in my home town mumbles..caught a 3lb bass in Caswell and two small wrasse..just got some isome pink sand worms so giving them ago soon..wonder if they get me a bass of the rocks slowly spinning it or of the edge of the harbour??
Hi Steve, well done on the bass and wrasse. I would try both ways to see which way works best for your area. Try adding the isome worm onto a small jig head for the harbour. Let me know how you get on.
Gary wood cheers mate, some good bass marks around mumbles Swansea,,may go later weather permitting and il just pop a few split shots on and isome worm on hook and drop it down harbour wall and see what happens,,had wrasse off float down there so who knows lol..may make a little video soon.we see, cheers
Should probably rename this to 'light range fishing' since some people are obviously moaning and giving dislikes. Mint video, really interesting. One question, I have drop shot weights at 7g what size are yours? just cos' I will be hitting the pier soon.
Thanks Cameron, I think people don’t realise it’s a style of fishing rather than a literal type of fishing. The ones I was using in this video were 10g good luck on the pier mate.
Is the harbour you fish in open to the sea? I have a dock locally, but it only is opened now and again, making it seem a little less lively than where you're at
The one that's surrounded by houses is enclosed but I think it has some sort of pipe that leads into the river which allows the fish to get in and out.
Gary, this is a great, really helpful video. I've an LRF rod on the way and I was looking for how to do the basics. Found this now I am loads more confident. Thanks. Couple of Quick questions if I may. What make and pound braid and leaders were you using please? Also what's the name of the Savage Gear Metal lure you were using please? Thanks again, brilliant video.
Thanks Feral Grandad, the braid I was using in this video was carp braid but I've stopped using it because it kept getting tangles and knots in it. I've gone back to using spiderwire braid 12 and 15lb braking strain. I normally use 6lb mono for a leader. I thought the lure was a savage gear pshycho sprat but it was an xesta after burner mini 12g. you can get them and other metals from the art of fishing website www.artoffishing.co.uk in the lrf section.
@@fishingintheukgarywood thanks Gary, what with the River season finishing this week I'm going to have a bash at LRF. Got reel here, rid on way and knew nothing about it. Was great to find one video that covered different aspects of it. Thanks again.
With the knot you did for the Dropshot hook, if you do a single knot and pass it through the loop and tie it you can then pass the tag end back through the hook eye. This makes its stand flat against your line which is perfect for drop shot! Great video, I’m going to try shore fishing for flatties soon
will lrf catch in the winter mate? going fishing with myfriend at the weekend but all my sea gear is at my grandads so was thinking of just taking my spinning rod and real then picking up some drop shots and a few rubbers and a some rag worm
Great video mate, I love the idea of drop shoting and using isome but have very little confidence with it, maybe because it’s winter and I have little to no luck with it. I’m looking forward to the summer when the little fish liven up.
Thanks mate. I think once you catch something on the isome you’ll have more confidence with it. When I use it I like to give it some movement seems to work better for me that way.
love your vieos but just a thought would like to have more of a talking intro at the begining descusing the method the bait and venue etc befor jumping straight in its a good format you have just thing that would be a nice tweak as with tide etc you can miss bits when your angling
Do you reckon you could catch eating sized flounder in the Tyne estuary or other places around here on scented lures? I can't really cast past the breakers on the beach
@@stephenharris7982 my only problem fishing there is its a bit polluted and you cant access the water to release yoyr fish properly. might have to invest in drop net
@@hesalovelybuoy5944 it's not pollution mate it's brown because of the peat . It's one of the best salmon rivers in England and sea trout . I seen a otter 🦦 the other side of the river by the sage
@@stephenharris7982 its full of life tbf. seen plenty seals too! what i mean is if you go down there at low tide when its raining, you can see all the pipes emptying out and it stinks, as it was badly polluted ages ago. i personally just prefer a bit more "wild" fishing but yeah thats hard to come by. i might give the fish quay a fish tho. i will give it a go anyway cheers mate.
Tommy Weedon the way he fishing is mainly for sport and enjoyment carrying light gear getting places others can’t with two much kit..all I carry is a backpack with my kit and some water little first aid bag and my rod and a spare reel,,then I’m off over rocks along the coasts..great light easy fishing..and when you get a bass on your spinner you know it
Steve Foster I totally get that but I fish light and catch much bigger. I’m all for fishing but watching someone catch goldfish on RU-vid gets a bit boring.
Tommy Weedon yea I get that I’m with you just sometimes nice to watch different types of sea fishing..I’m a fan of big fishing but hate lumping all the kit around lol
No offence but I hate the Geordie accent I've had a few bad run ins with Geordies and I just can't handle the accent any more. Good fishing tips thanks
