Today we go over and light up a MSR Whisperlite Internationale. There's a bit of excitement as we learn how to properly check for leaks!
Along the lines of the leak explanation, I realize that I've got a bit of a continuity error when I hold up the pump and say "I used this one", when in fact the one that was used in the video was red. Probably should have said "the one I used was in this configuration". Apologies for the confusion.

Sure did, didn't it! I've got sand offscreen for future moments such as this, but hope to never use it.

WOW! Glad THAT didn't happen in your hotel room!! Haha! I absolutely LOVE how you edited that. Glad you're ok and no serious damage save some hair on your arm. I went back and forth between the Whisperlite Internationale and the Optimus Nova years ago and went with the Nova because it had a metal pump. The Nova doesn't whisper, though. It's got and impingement burner like the bell burners on the Coleman 530 and the other military stoves, but bigger and sounds like a jet engine, which isn't it's best feature. It has no generator per se. The whole burner assembly is a heat exchanger to vaporize the fuel. Both are great stoves. Pros and cons for each. I like the whisperlite because you can hear while your cooking...... The Nova is fast with instant adjustment down to a low simmer. I believe it's heavier than the WL too. I never actually used a WL personally, though I was around them when they were in use. I'm wondering if the locking bail not going on right was a red flag that the wrong stove was connected. That's a real question, as I truly don't know. Now you have to be on the lookout for ending up in a Darwin awards video. Haha! Anyway, good job hanging in there. Nothing focuses the attention like a sudden unexpected ball of fire! Imagine if that was in a nylon tent! Good lesson/reinforcement in safety. Keep up the great work.

Things surely can go wrong in a hurry! My first clue should have been when I pulled the block/tube/bail out of the pump and the o-ring came with it...and it felt like a very loose fit too. Once I swapped over a bushing from a different pump, it worked just as it should. FWIW, I just bought another used Internationale that I couldn't pass up!

I have a bunch of coleman stuff but this stove is one of my favorites - the only problem they had over the years were the pumps - the new pumps seem to have fixed the problems they had with breakage over time. Their warranty is excellent. They are loud but their is a aftermarket piece that quiets them down a lot. Burn on.

This really is pretty quiet, not like the roarer burners of Optimus. I do love how small and packable it is, and it's really pretty easy on fuel too. I've heard that MSR has an exchange program for the pumps, I need to call them and send a few in, as mine are developing cracks around the fuel valve.
