It's probably because the people in Japan are really used to him while him playing constantly allows him to feel alright facing NA.

It really is. NA struggles to deal with Proto's MinMin, but Japan have him figured out. Looking at Proto's results, he feels like a top 5-10 player over there. They have a lot more time to play against his MinMin of course, but it really speaks to the strength of the region

Lucina wins 100% (slight win though). I'm a day one Lucina main who used to fight a day one Fox main all the time. He was better than me and he used to always beat me in neutral, on stage. The first months, I was losing more often than not. At some point, our sets became more even, and eventually, I learned to edge guard Fox and I stopped losing to him to such an extent that I made him drop the character (despite the dude still beating me in neutral. We tried sets were I was not allowed to edge guard, and he was still winning those. But as long as we played regular matches where I was allowed to edge guard, he was the one losing). On paper, most people would think Fox wins. In theory, he's faster than Lucina, and he kinda does combo and ledge trap her. But in practice, he has to get huge leads on her on stage to get his kill confirms/options at high percent before she puts him off stage and edge guard him nearly for free, which she can start to do at mid percent like ProtoBanham demonstrated last stock of this set. Lucina's floatiness and her up B also help her against Fox's combos. Lastly, her range, movement and frame data make her able to keep up with Fox in neutral and even trade with him. Oh, and by the way, Proto is great yes, but he's not playing the matchup optimally imo. What he did to win game 5 should happen more, and he's not using Lucina's counter at all off stage

@@georgesbouchet7430 I like the analysis. You're right, Lucina's edge guarding changes the matchup a lot. I think Lucina wins a lot of matchups that she wouldn't otherwise just for her top tier edge guarding. Thanks for the input!
