In this video I am using Lost Coast Softwood Kindling, Tractor Supply Flake Pine Shavings, Kingsford Competition Blend Charcoal and a Wind Proof Lighter. I like the softwood kindling because it lights quick and burns for about the right amount of time to get the charcoal going. It is available on Amazon, Ace Hardware and on the West Coast at Nugget Markets and Freidman’s. A bag of kindling has enough for about a dozen lights. Paper would work to light the kindling but I like you use large pine shavings because they have less ash and the ash doesn’t blow around like paper ash. You can buy shavings at Tractor Supply, Wal-Mart or pet stores. The huge bag from TSC is enough for probably 100 fires. The shavings and kindling combination work great in fire pits as well.

This method makes charcoal grilling so quick and easy! The wait time is the same as using my gas grill. Plus no lighter fluid chemicals needed!

You can't beat experience !!! I've probably seen all the fire-up videos here. This one is the most efficient method. Thank you very much for sharing.

Doesn't the manual of the grill state that you shouldn't burn wood in it, because that generates too much heat ?

Charcoal burns hotter than wood. That's the whole purpose of even bothering to PRODUCE charcoal.
