Lighting Circuits Switch wiring Wiring at the switch 

I think it's important to wire an electrical circuit in a manner that is easy to maintain and access so when designing and installing this should be taken into account. There is no need to install junction boxes when not necessary so in domestic I would prefer to see the first method (loop in and out). Good clear explanation in this video.

Not many electrition explain them selfs properly but you do thanx. I'm running cable for spots, under cupboard lights and two ceiling rose lights all in the kitchen I like your way of connecting the power straight to the spots but because I'm doing cupboard lights and ceiling rose I got confused so I'm using junction boxes for spots and cupboard lights onto ring . Good video .

Hi. I am using the switch connecting system, as I want to install a number of downlights. This is straightforward with the exception that I want to incorporate two way switching using 3 core and earth. Where previously I would intend wiring the brown wire from the power in cable to the Common, in the video the black wire from the 3C&E is wired to Common. Can you please describe the correct wiring in this situation. Thanks

What about if you need to install an extractor fan or smoke alarms of the lighting circuit? There won’t be permanent live at the pendants

In case you want to use one of the switches of switch connection method with a dual control switch ( hall light on staircase?)..what are you doing?

Wago connectors seem alot better than conventional blocks. In some way this 3rd method of light switch wiring is easier than loop in and junction box

Hi, old vid but just come across it, hopefully you can advise? In my garage I have a consumer unit and out of the bottom of the consumer unit there is a cable direct to the light switch. Then out of the top of the consumer unit there is a cable direct to light... I want to extend for a new light and switch but not sure what I do with this arrangement I have?

Note that the three vertical cables to each switch must be chased into the wall. Thus rewiring with this switch loop method requires more work as most traditional UK properties have conduit in the wall that permits only one or max two cables.

Great video, very well explained, but could you tell me why there is no neutral wire connected to the switch, only seen you connect live wire into switch and one out.

Where do I get the neutral wire from if my wall switch was a smart switch which required both Live and Neutral wires?

And all this goes from only one circuit breaker? Cuz looks like it is... In that case its not the best connection since if the cb jumps the whole house will be without lights...

Am I the only person that is questioning this. Is the switch connection essentially wired in series because if the first switch is not working than the others upstream from it doesn't work too because only the first one is connected to the feed.

No need for junction boxes. Just go straight with the feed to the first switch and then loop it to another and so on.

MK rubbish. Why not connect your 2 live wires direct to the switch ? Its a lot of room. No need for wagos and extra piece of cable.

Again - just part of the information required to do the job correctly. What next DIY brain surgery?? SO much info missing, stop encouraging people to do what might kill them - most house fires are from dodgy diy electrics. This work must only be done by a Part P registered, qualified electrician. It's the law!!!
