This was interesting. I came here because I've noticed myself spending more time in stores that have a warmer spectrum of light and looking at products more in those stores. Stores that have a harsh cold light make me feel rushed.
I hate anything warmer or cooler than 3500k in a grocery store. I think I could deal with 4100k in almost any other type of store but 3500k is still preferred.
My preference for lighting in a store is actually just bright and uniform, nothing fancy. No glare or harsh lighting either. Just some basic T8 fluorescent strip lights mounted to the ceiling fit the bill perfectly. As for color color temperature, 3500k and nothing else for general grocery store lighting. For general other store lighting, 3500k or 4100k. For freezers, 4100k or 5000k. For meats, 3000k. For all other fridges, 3500k. As for CRI, at least 85. I’m sorry but that’s my preferred retail lighting situation. Plain and simple. 3500k is gold!
