A pretty good strategy I used to kill Ereshkigal, one of the hardest bosses in the game to beat. Luckily, unlike the Aeronite boss fight, you can poison him to take away his health a lot faster than just slashing or throwing spells at him can.
Poison alone isn't gonna kill him tho, you're gonna want to keep hitting him with spells to stagger him. You have to stagger him 3 times if you want to do a lot of damage tho because he has two barriers that he creates as soon as the fight starts. Staggering him breaks one down, so after two staggers you can attack him directly or stagger him once again for even bigger damage. A nice trick I learned to cast a pretty much endless combo of spells is to put a level 1 spell on each of your 3 main garbs all on the same button and continuously switch garbs after every two casts.
For Example: Fire, Fire, switch garb, blizzard, blizzard, switch garb, ruin, ruin, switch garb.
This allows you to pretty much never run out of ATB and to keep spamming spells to stagger him faster. Whenever they're about to attack then you can quickly switch to your defensive garb and defend. Then continue spamming spells until they're staggered. Ruin spell is a good choice for one of the 3 level one spells because it's the only one that keeps the stagger duration up when the enemy is attack and you're forced to defend. Without it you're constantly gonna be on and up and down stagger circle and never fully stagger him.
Note: This was done on hard mode, so Army of One was needed to cause extra damage. On Hard mode, the Overclock ability runs out a lot quicker so Army of One allowed me to do more damage than just Overclock by itself. Also, if he's poisoned while you're doing Army of one and/or Overclock he's taking even more damage while he's defenseless.
Note: You get TWO trophies/achievements for defeating this boss. One for killing him [Monster Bane] and another for getting the garb that you're given afterwards [Holy Garb of Destruction].
