Hey coaster fanatics. This is the first ever HD front Seat on ride POV and review of Lightning Rod on RU-vid. I waited about 5 hours to get on this ride on memorial day. I was one of the first outsiders in history to ever ride this. This is an amazing coaster and I wouldn't be surprised if this gets new coaster of the year. It is the fastest wooden coaster in the world right now with a top speed of 73 mph although I have been hearing that it is actually faster which is why they haven't fully opened it yet. It features many over banked turns and stays low to the ground most of the time and hugs the terrain. Enjoy The ride. I love how people are complaining about the quality of this POV. Mounted cameras do not capture the essence of the coaster as much as handheld cameras do. You can really see the intensity in this video.

RIP (original) Lightening Rod. I just rode it today since they replaced the LSM launch with a variable speed chain lift this past winter. Those first two drops will never be the same. 😢

Just rode it today. Absolutely best woodie hands down. Extremely fast,smooth and intense. Speed never slowed down. Definitely on my top 5 rollercoasters of all time.

Holy shit. LR looks absolutely incredible. Those overbanked turns coming off of the mountainous terrain looks to deliver some insane laterals, and the quadruple down looks like it will deliver ejector airtime. It looks like it keeps its speed throughout the entire ride, as it is extremely well paced as well. Supposedly, I've been hearing the LSM launches the train at over 80 MPH up the lift hill. Looks extremely forceful as well. Can't wait to ride in two weeks.

You'll love it! I rode it last Monday in the front row and the positive weren't too high, 3.5 to be exact, the negative were amazing and not painful at all. The launch is only 45mph but I've been hearing at the bottom of the hill it's been going 81mph and I'd believe it. The launch was more powerful than I had expected/heard. Out of all the coasters I have been on which I've ridden all the coasters at Dollywood, Six Flags over Georgia, Magic Mountain, US Disney parks, Kings Island, and Cedar Point, Lightning Rod was my favorite. I have ridden tons of roller coasters at a lot of different them parks including Top Thrill Dragster (120MPH) at Cedar Point and Lightning Rod is definitely on my top 3 most intense roller coaster list, this ride was insane!

My daughter and I rode it this summer 2022. It is probably the best coaster I have ever rode. I rode it twice. First time when it stopped before it went back into the station I looked at my youngest daughter she had this look on her face. It was a smile but with a WTF just happen to me look. I was laughing because I knew I had the same look. We got off and I found my other daughter that was there with us. She had my grand daughter that we were not going to put on it because thunder whatever the name was scared the crap out of her. That was funny. I told her you have to ride this ride. We did when the train stopped before it went into the station she had the same look. I was laughing. Best coaster ever.

BAHAHA the irony of reporting a channel for 'stealing' a video that was filmed by breaking park rules is pretty funny. It's awesome to see the ride and the video does show it to be truly mental. But I can't understand why people want to post that it's actually amazing, surely even the person who filmed it thinks it's pretty average. Sneak peak at a ride that makes it looks bat shit crazy awesome, definitely. An amazing cinematic achievement, not so much. Call a spade a spade

BEST COASTER EVER!!! I was there 2 days ago & when we got in, they were still testing it. We were bumbed but we were going to wait it out. They finally had it running and we were able to ride it! It was insane!!! Lots of hang time in the air as it goea up and over the hills! Totally worth the wait!!

I rode Lightning Rod today. I have been riding coasters since 1963. I have traveled to Canada, Mexico and the UK in my quest for them. All I can say is this is the most insane wooden coaster I've ever experienced (you don't merely "ride" this.) LR takes the assumed parameters of coasters and send them thru the looking glass. Nothing can prepare you for this ride. It is balls to the walls from the moment the LIMs kick in. Sheer genius!

Agreed. Fury as amazing but in a totally different way. I ride Fury at least once a week (live in Clt & have a Season Pass). It is intense as well but LR is in a completely different category.

Living fairly close to Dollywood and having gone quite a bit, I gotta say they've really grown the park into an amazing experience the past few years. Love spending the day there. Of course the coasters are the main attraction but the music, shows, other great rides and overall ambiance of the park is awesome. Riding the train and waving moronically at other park goers is fun as well. 😂

I rode this last night. About an hour long line but it was worth it! I got to ride this while the fireworks were going off and the best part about it was that I got the front role! I live here in Pigeon Forge so I could come back anytime. But I have to say this is one of the best roller coasters in park!

I rode Lighting Rod for the first time visiting Dollywood last weekend. One word describes the experience; WOW! It was the fastest continuous coaster that I have ever been on, very well done and definitely worth the trip. There is constant "airtime" as you are lifted off your seat over and over again. The main drop which happens after the first 20-seconds of the ride is a full 165 feet straight down. We were sitting in the front car in the 3rd row and couldn't see the bottom of the tracks in the drop. The coaster then pitches you back and forth up and down and at full speed for the rest of the ride. Very fun experience and definitely a "10" rating, even for coaster enthusiasts.

Got 4 rides on Friday 09/16/16, wait was only 15 minutes. Got one exit re-ride when no one was in my row (as a single rider). Go on a Friday. If you like Ejector air, this is your ride. The Quad down is really 6 ejector pops like riding Magnum XL-200, Lightning Run at KK, or even SkyRush at Hershey. If you're in the back, the first drop is kinda like Millennium Force falling down the hill as you get whipped over the top. The wave turn seems to happen in slow motion as the train slows down at the top, really cool looking down at the ground from so high up. I'm not blown away by this ride because of the opening problems (Technical Rehearsal) but it is worth the visit. When they get both trains running on a regular basis, then I'll move it up in my poll.

Patrick, I'm glad you (and others) have been fortunate enough to be able to actually ride LR. I was looking forward to hitting DW to start the first part of this summer's coaster tour for my son and I however, after monitoring the Dollywood ride wait time page and seeing three consecutive days of LR being "Closed For The Day", I'll pass and save my money for if and when they can ever keep it running on a consistent basis. Doesn't matter if it is the greatest ride in the world if it is down more often than being operational.

Loved the launch and first drop. But when I went on this I got pinned down with the lap bar which was the only thing I disliked so I didn't feel too much of the Airtime on the triple down. Still a great ride in top 10 wood

In the front seat this coaster was amazing!!!!! So fast en so many airtime and so smooth!!! I also rode it in the back...... !!!!SPINE-BREAKER!!!!..... After the first drop there is something in the track that shake's your spine in 1000 pieces. The rest of the track is very smooth in the back but i won't ride it in the back anymore. Maybe i'm getting to old for this :D haha. But i love Lighning Rod!!!

I underestimated this ride today. It was my first ride at the park and didnt realize it was the most intense. I feel bad for making my 59 yr old mom ride it with me😢
