I'm re-living this now so many years later. As a life-long Giants fan and SF native, this was the first world series game I took my son to. I'll never forget the experience as we all joined as one.
I was there for this. First game I ever attended at AT&T ever. I was stunned -- and definitely got the chills. Not a native San Franciscan and never much cared for this song, but you could feel the fans' love for their team and their city. The Rangers fans sitting next to us were taken aback too (in a good way). They were really nice folks.
I actually didn't plan this but later that year in December we flew to Orlando by way through a hub in Dallas. I was wearing the 2010 Champions hat and man did I get some sour looks from the locals!
My boss went to this game and he said it was chilling how special of a moment this was. He said everyone was so into this song and how it felt like the entire city of SF united to sing it.
I was there for that and it was hands down one of the most amazing things that I have ever felt!!! Literally every single giants fan started singing. This is a memory that I will LOVE for the rest of my life. GO GIANTS!!!1
Since it's always played in the middle of the 8th inning, and we often sing along (especially when the Giants are winning or we're just happy to be there), I was waiting for it this particular night. WE'RE GONNA WIN THE WORLD SERIES FINALLY THIS YEAR! (I'd been waiting myself since 1963, my first year as a fan at Candlestick). Well, I was out in McCovey Cove that night, along with a couple thousand others -- and you better believe we all sang along too (and of course the 40,000 of you were so loud we could still hear you over our loud chorus)!
The good ol days..my school was few blocks away from AT&T park. I was taking night classes and could hear the stadium going crazy - I wanted to be there so bad instead of in class. The night they won the series me and my class mates ran out of class straight to the stadium to celebrate - a night I will never forget 🧡🖤🧡
Its pretty awesome when Steve Perry is in the stadium and they play a Journey song in the 8th inning...being a Giant and Journey fan just makes it something to experience
@@blessredy The 8th inning sing-along remained a Journey song until about 2017. If the Giants were ahead in the 8th it was "Lights." If they were behind, it was "Don't Stop Believing." Of course, after every Giants home win, they play "I Left My Heart in San Francisco."
That's awesome, been to san fran one time, in 04 me n a bunch of friends flew from philly to watch an eagles/niners monday night game, we stayed by fishermans wharf, loved it, one of the most beautiful cities i've ever been to cant wait to go back.
Such a beautiful city. Every time I go there it gets better and better. I’ll always be a giants fan no matter what. Baseball season is starting up soon which means more B ball games for me. I’m glad I live close to SF it’s like a second home city.
i still cant believe the giants won the world series. Its like a wonderful dream that you wake up to find out that its reality. What a magical season that was i started following 3/4 through the season and i swear you have to of followed the season as a whole to understand how magical and just awesome it was. In all my years of watching sports nothing could ever be better than the 2010 baseball season. Exept maybe if the 49ers win the super bowl with Alex Smith. but..... not likley
I was at game 1. I flew out to SF from the Buffalo NY area. Steve Perry was at game 1, also and we sang Lights! it was one of the coolest things I've ever done!
I've been to the Super Bowl (XIX), previous World Series ('89, '02) over 1200 sporting events ... and this may have been the greatest moment I have ever experienced at a sporting event. It was MAGICAL! Great job capturing the video, especially since I forgot my video camera in the car ... thanks for sharing!
I went to that game, I remember that. I went to both nlcs game 5 and world series game 2, and Steve Perry was there. It was a game that I will never forget.
Looking back on this, since this wasn't on the broadcast, I only now just realized that the Giants responded right after this in the bottom of the 8th with a 7 run two out rally to go on to win 9-0.
For the last five years of my life, I've been everywhere but home. Germany, Korea, Iraq, Kuwait, Washington State. I grew up watching Williams, Gardner, Bonds, Kent, Snow, Schmidt...I was devastated as a child in the '02 series. I wanted nothing more then to be home last fall, to watch some games with my pop like the old days. This video reminds me of the magic last season, and brings me one step closer to being home. Thank you so much. All of you Giants fans here can relate I'm sure.
I don't post many comments here but I come to this video every now and then and just relive the magic. It was such a magical ride and this video exemplifies everything about last year. I can't wait till Opening Day and what this season will bring. Go Giants.
Everytime I watch this video I get a little lump in my throat. Seeing my fellow Giants fans singing in unison, to a song for the City. Just watching this moment of sheer happiness, after all we have been through, 04, 03, 02!!!, 2000, 97, 93, 89, 87 and to get to this point, this moment just seemed like a pure release from the decades of "torture"
OMG! Steve looks like he's having SO much fun leading the LIGHTS serenade during 2010 World Series Game 2! I would've LOVED to have been at one of these World Series games in the "City by the Bay!!" Don't STOP Believin' + Jrny On! I'm a 27yr JOURNEY fan, whose VERY Happy right now!!! Go Giants! Go Steve Perry! Go Journey!
If this does not prove that good music lasts a lifetime, I don't know what does. Over 30 years ago this song was released and yet it still rocks the house. Thank you Journey and Steve Perry.
Just. Epic. I haven't been the biggest fan of sports, but I know how much the Giants' victory has impacted EVERYONE around me...and of course, to see this: Perry and and a couple thousand Giants fans singing "Lights" in unison - you just can't beat that!!
holy crap...im 14 ive been to 2 world series (2002, 2010), two games that steve perry was at (nlcs game 5 and this one) i went to the all star game at att where ichiro made history with the inside the park home run, i was at bonds' 756, bonds' 73 was my parents anaversery and i was there, ive been to every opening day at att/pac bell/sbc park, my names on a brick in front of the stadium, ive been on the green monster at fenway, i was at the last old timers day at the old yankee stadium. IMLUCKY!
Liverpool and Anfield has "You'll Never Walk Alone", The BoSox and Fenway have "Sweet Caroline," but truthfully being able to experience AT&T Park and Giants fans with "Lights" and "Don't Stop Believing" has been one of the greatest experiences of my life.
this shit makes me cry. im not lying. im a diehard giants fan since 87(the year i was born). my whole family is. i was born in salinas and right now live in phoenix,az and was here this whole season. i got t o see them 5 times when they were here against the diamondbacks this year and the very 1st spring training game in peoria and a shit ton at they're spring training facility in scottsdale and plan to again this march. but this is just unreal. this whole season. we proved em all wrong giants!
I grew up in the Bay Area and now live in Jacksonville, FL. Where I work, people thought I was nuts for doing sprints yelling at the top of my lungs, "GIANTS WIN!! GIANTS WIN!!!!" When life gets me down I look at/listen to this. Thanks amigo.
I remember the stick it was a cool place! But at&t that place is magic inside it's electric in there!!!! Great job giants u worked ur asses off this season thanks for another world series title!!!!!
I am in this video! Awesome! The energy was amazing on Thurs! You know that was better than any concert Steve Perry ever did. He is a huge fan. Goooooooo Giants!!!
I’ve been to that park a few times. Didn’t know about them playing this song in the 8th the first time I went and was really taken by the moment. Second time I went and it was what I was looking forward to the most. Great stadium. Great tradition. Hope they never stop doing it.
I am from Europe and do not particularly like the sport and even less those big events with stadiums full of people. But in 97 I was in the USA and was able to attend a baseball game. And since that time, I do expect that to come back. And finally I will this year. I got my tickets for the 22th of July!
TheObi, I was born in San Francisco and now cheer for all the home teams. But when I was a kid I was a huge Big Red Machine fan. You had some great teams late 70's and early 80's. George Foster, Dave Concepcion, Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Tom Seaver, Ken Griffey Sr, etc etc etc. Good memories back then.
@concertkid. We did it Giants are WS champs. Thanks for posting this. Honestly when I saw this video it gave me chills. And as far as I know the WS 2010 was the first time they ever played "Lights" at AT&T park. When I saw this video and felt the energy from this crowd, I said, "This has to be OUR year!!!" Thanks again. BTW - So glad I didn't have to use my Game 7 ticket!!!!
One of my favorite things about visiting San Francisco is that I get to see the Giants play in this magnificent ballpark. And one of the highlights of seeing a game there is hearing "Lights" in the 8th inning. As a baseball fan, it's impressive to witness the love this city has for it's Giants. As a Giants fan, it gets me misty-eyed every time. "Oh, I want to be there in my city..."
I am in 1:21- 1:26. Top of the screen orange shirt with white hoodie, talking to someone behind me excitedly. My buddy is taking his hat off and on next to me. That was the best game I have been to ever!
I LIVE IN KANSAS CITY AND IM THE BIGGEST SF GIANTS FAN THAT LIVES HERE!! I seriously get goosebumps everytime I watch this video and ive watched it since the world series was over. Im 19 years old and I get told each and everyday that I cant do that or ill never be able to accomplish my dreams...The SF Giants proved everyone that said that WRONG!! You dont have to be a New York Yankee 2 win the world Series...You just gotta be the MISFITS of baseball! Long Live Tim and Brian Wilson
Instant add to my Favorites. Simply awesome. I went to NLDS game 1 and NLCS Game 4 and they didn't play Lights. This must be the first time unless they did it in Game 1 of the WS. Either an instant tradition has been born at AT&T Park
I used to live in the Bay Area, but have since moved away. I kept Giants season tickets, and made it out for Game 1. It was awesome. You captured the feeling beautifully here. SF Bay Area residents: you don't know how lucky you are to live in such a beautiful place. I play this over and over, and my eyes tear up every time. I miss the Bay Area.
@ebannaw So true!!! I live in San Antonio, TX now! I used to go to a lot of Giants games during the Matt Williams/Will Clark/Kevin Mitchel seasons! Watching this brings back memories of Candlestick Park when I was young! It totally brings you back home...to the bay...our city by the bay! Nothing compares to this city...NOTHING! Rock on, San Francisco!
The song was originally intended to be about Los Angeles” when the sun shines on LA”. Steve Perry said he did not like the way it sounded , so when he joined Journey in San Francisco, he changed it to “ when the sun shines on the bay”
