It's time to head out and start where I left off from the last video using the thermal to reduce the Fox population. THIS IS A HUNTING VIDEO. VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED.
Thanks Phil. Always ready to try new filming methods. Just a shame the Thermal recorded footage isn’t as good as what you see through the viewfinder. I am sure that will improve over time. I thought I would sight my rifle incorrectly just to give me a challenge😂🤣🙄
Well done Steve, loved the video mate, top quality and honest. I have a feeling you are going to get addicted to thermal hunting, it looks so interesting, I'm looking forward to giving it a crack one day. Top stuff, regards George.
Cheers George. Thermal will certainly fill the gap and help clean up those elusive vermin. Not sure if I will get addicted to it but it is certainly different and interesting especially when on foot.
I’ve held off on Thermal gear until I believed it was at the stage that I could make clear decisions on safe shots. The video footage is far from as good as what you see through the viewfinder. It certainly has come a long way and will continue to improve. Thanks for watching 👍👍
Thanks 👍. I wasn't getting a perfect image on my target in the afternoon and starting using PIP which in the end I believe was to my disadvantage. Sorted it out the following morning. Good to go now.
Wow this thermal stuff really is a gamechanger, great video. Also how are you finding the numbers of foxes and rabbits these days compared to a few years ago?
Cheers Wayne. The Thermal gear will come down in price over time so it shouldn't be too long before it's within reach. Thanks again for dropping by mate.
Cheers Gerry. I certainly should have double checked my sighting adjustments before venturing out. Only slightly out but at distance it was enough to be a clean miss. Thanks for watching.
Great watching as always mate, thanks for putting these out for us to enjoy. I'm trying to put some money together and convince the wife to let me fork out for a thermal monocular, what unit are you using in this video?
Great video. When you buy optics at a low price point, you can bet your ar$e that the manufacturer is cutting corners to get it to you at that price. By quality first up and along with reliability and image quality, a bonus is "no shimming."
@@BoltActionProductions Well that's a difficult one depending on whether you put image quality before reliability, and vice versa? GSCI TI-GEAR S is probably the most robust and reliable unit available here, and Infiray is still a reliable unit from what I hear with image quality that rivals some of the best U.S. made units. Just have a look on here and you'll find a lot of high profile U.S. Shooters switching to Iray. The GSCI is a 17 micron unit while Infiray is a 12 micron. The GSCI is really pricey too. If you're considering the well known "P" brand, do your due diligence and the best way is to search online by inserting brand "......................... issues." Just my opinion for what it's worth. Hope it helps?
@@BoltActionProductions Sorry about that, I thought you were using a Pard? They seem to have the shimming problem as well. I checked your previous video and I see you're using the lower end SAIM model. I was referring to the RICO Model. You don't here of any issues with those, but having said that, it's still early days. Infiray hasn't been on the market that long and it took a while for the other big brand to start showing issues well after release. It's really difficult navigating the thermal minefield as even the cheaper models are too expensive if they don't work properly. Cheers and thanks for the great videos.
I do have a Pard NV008 night vision scope but that really doesn't suit my purpose. The Rico mount has some similarities with the SCT35 and it is only my OCD for engineering tolerances that makes me want to get the reticle back in the middle. It probably won't bother the majority.
Great to watch thermal hunting, but there at about the 6:32 mark onwards, were there two foes running towards you when you called? I know the closer one dropped below your sight line, but what about 'his buddy'? You do deserve a warm cuppa now after that cold night air, thanks very much Steve, I did enjoy this.
Cheers Reg and yes there were two foxes in the scanner but I was too busy looking for the first one with the thermal scope. It wasn't until I looked at the footage later on that I realised there were two. That's how it goes.
@@BoltActionProductions It's pretty easy to see 'everything' when you watch a video and in the comfort of your chair at home, for sure! Just as long as I wasn't seeing double then ,... hahaha,..yes indeed that one will live to be in your sights another day!
That is what had been done but I believe I might have altered one of the reticle settings for the 33gr Remington ammo accidentally while setting the G2 reticle adjustment for the Federal Ammo. Thanks for watching Ian.
Nice Video Steve. 30 grainer dropped him quick smart. Have you tried the Remington 40g PSP. they shoot really well out of my CZ and carry a bit extra weight.
Cheers Chris. I have tested quite a few but not those Remington's that you've mentioned. If you are interested you can see what shot well out of the little Lithgow here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-21qzDbcI3IA.html
The newer ammo options has certainly filled me with more faith the little 22WMR. Enough bunnies around to keep it interesting at night. Not sure what your question is regarding "AV". Maybe I have missed something that is most likely obvious.
Hope that fox was alright after you accidentally dropped him on the ground. Sounded like he hit a bit hard 🤦♂️ Crotch heat was noted upon the opening scene 😜. Awesome stuff mate 👌
Certainly a different form of hunting/shooting and a very effective one at that. Keep watching these sort of videos Robbie and we'll slowly work you back to the dark side🤣😂. Stay well mate.
Hey Steve, was hoping to puck you brain, i have a 22lr and love shooting bunnies but thinking of changing the rifle to either 17hmr or 22mag. I take the odd fox as well but whats your thoughts? Looking at a Lithgow atm👍
I'll try and keep this simple. Going to either the 17HMR or the 22WMR will extend your range and hitting power over the 22Rimfire. That's pretty obvious but I would say, especially after using the 22WMR with some of the newer ammunition, is that your choice is down to percentages. If you're swaying more towards rabbits than foxes I would say the 17HMR but if you're swaying more towards foxes I would look at the 22WMR. Not much in it really but in reality neither are any good if you can't find an accurate rifle to shoot them in. The Lithgow should do the job well in either caliber. Thanks again for dropping by Gary.
Have thrown a few enquiries out today to a few gun stores re availability, kinda old school as looking for a Lithgow in wood rather than synthetic, but see how we go👍 appreciate the feedback mate👍
I went through the same scenario that you are, after buying 22lr and 17 hmr I ended up getting a 223 in Steyr just so I could get out there further for the long shots. Highly recommend either Lithgow or Steyr.
