THIS IS A HUNTING VIDEO. VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED.
Confidence in your equipment is a big part of hunting. When this confidence starts to dwindle doubt starts to enter your mind. In this case it is Leigh's .222 Sako that he has began to feel just isn't quite right. So time to do a quick check to see if further work needs to be done.

Good video Steve; I hope your accuracy comes back Leigh. Nothing worse than not having full confidence before going into the field!!! Love the treble two, I've owned two of them and cannot.fault them!

Thanks Jamie. Leigh will get it dialled in again pretty quick. Love the .222 and I too have had a few over the years. It is only recently that I replaced my last Sako with the .204. Take care mate👍

Some great advice guys. These are my thoughts, I typically only clean my barrels once groups start to open up or if ive had them in wet weather as they need a good few shots to get some fouling again. I never use copper solvent just regular gun oil to remove carbon, since doing this they shoot far better and more consistent. I also only hunt with shooting sticks or a car window rest so sight in on them as theres no point sighting in off a bench as theres no benches out in the paddocks and can be a couple of inches different at 100m from bench to sticks so it certainly pays to sight in on what u hunt with!

Cheers Michael. We can all be a little slack at times when it comes to cleaning our rifles but good maintenance can not only enhance accuracy consistency but also prolong the life of your rifles.

Thanks Eric. If it doesn't feel right you are better to pack up and set the situation correctly. That is what we ended up doing until we can check it out properly.

@@BoltActionProductions that's very true 👍. After I cleaned the tikka 243 I checked zero fire 3 shots and pack up I was not feeling it and not in the right frame off mind try again next weekend hopefully

Good info steve, whats your thoughts on zeroing the rifle a few days before hunting and putting it away without cleaning it, thereby your first cold barrel shot is the same poi is as you zeroed it , i notice after cleaning the first shot can be a bit off , no good in a hunting scenario unless you check before heading out (noisy!), i know its hard for some blokes to not get the rod out after a shot or three but anyhow would be good to get your view

Nothing wrong with that mate and I often do it myself especially on my long range gear.

Hey mate , long time watcher of your channel , I just got myself a tikka t3x 308 . I'm in the process of sighting in , and I'm having a bit of trouble I'm getting steered in a few directions should I sight in an inch high at 100 mtrs I'm using 155 grn corlokka thanks in advance really appreciate all your vids and content

G'day Elijah. I am going to make a few assumptions here so I can answer your question. I take it the .308 Tikka you have will be used for general hunting purposes and most likely medium to bigger game. If this is the case you want to aim for around a 200yd zero range. This has worked well for us over the years. For this to happen the average impact of your group at 100yds would need to be around 1.75" high using Remington 150gr Corelokt's leaving the muzzle at around 2820fps. Once checked at 100yds it won't hurt to shoot a couple of shots at 200yds to check it is on. Take your time, set yourself up well and do it at your own pace keeping the barrel as cool as possible because in a hunting situation it's that first shot that counts. That shot will always be off a cold barrel. Good luck and keep me posted.

Hey mate thanks heaps for the reply , yeah mate it's .308 I bought it to hunt fallow deer I live in Tassie , IV haven't spent the time in sighting it in to my standard it's been bore sighted and then I spent an hour adjustment to dead on at 60 metres . All advice is welcome I will be deft be watching over your vids this cheers

Thoughts on a lead sled type product for sighting in?👍
@BoltActionProductions
@BoltActionProductions 5 лет назад
I don't like them as controlling recoil is part of the sighting in and shooting in a hunting situation. You need to develop a technique that works. I can understand their use for the big magnums but other than that I would not consider the need.

Just don’t go doing this in a state forest. Good way to give hunters a bad reputation. And it’s illegal.

It certainly is a grey area and one that I have discussed with my local DFO many years ago.
