Great concept, would jump on this in a heart beat. But I will also wait until the price is more reasonable. $700 for a car battery is totally crazy.

Yeah, the price is a bit steep at first glance but when you figure the lifespan of a lithium compared to a lead acid, it isn't that far off.

Been running Lithium batteries in my motorcycles for over 10 years. It's easily one of the best and easiest upgrades to do and is an absolute no-brainer when your OEM lead-acid needs to be replaced. Glad this tech is finally making its way into the mainstream for cars.

I bought 2 of them, 1 for my car and 1 for my moms car. Once you feel the weight difference, you'll never want to touch another regular battery again. Plus....car starts faster, windows fly up and down and headlights are brighter.

What about the fires of hell in AZ? Is that a survivable heat for this type of battery? Summers routinely hit 110 plus for months on end.

I run one of these batteries in my Mustang, you will need a tender if you only drive your car once every couple weeks or so. The one I use is an ANTIGRAVITY & it is very light. It weighs just under 5lb.

Had the atx20 on my 86 Corolla gts for 2 months, drive 1-2 times a week, battery charge light on and off on the dash since day one (doesn’t have this problem with normal batteries) now the alternator stop working, my wonder is these lithium batteries make the alternator work harder shorten their life.

Thanks for explaining all the benefits of a lithium battery, Now, explain why anyone would buy an AGrav. 24Ah for $629 at 8.5 lbs when they could get the exact same at LithiumMoto ; 22Ah for $450 at 5.2 lbs WITH 2ndStart feature and key FOB. or a 40Ah version at 10.5 lbs for $750... and by the way; LithiumMoto Does have the correct size battery for the Fiat 124.

this is a good idea for a battery. but the only hiccup i see is with the CCA. so basically this battery may not be favorable for ppl living in the cold climate region. also what about the charging system. i heard that they are not compatible to the alternator in cars. i read somewhere on the net that it is not to be charged with alternators putting out more than 13.5 V. so what kinda alternator will i need to put in my car?
@FlyinMiataVideo
@FlyinMiataVideo 2 года назад
These work fine with alternators. Most lead acid chargers go through an anti-sulfate process to clean off the plates in the battery. LiFePO4 batteries (like what we sell) literally can't sulfate, so it's not necessary. Plus, it can damage the battery. Your alternator doesn't have this process, it just puts voltage into the battery. The specific charging profile is better suited to the battery chemistry as well.

I like most of your products, and appreciate that I can usually skip the research and trust FM to sell a top notch product in every category. This one I just don't understand.. standard batteries with a 3-5 year lifespan cost $150-300 - they often last 2-3 times that and work in just about every weather condition in the USA. How is a $700 replacement that you have to take indoors when it's chilly out make any sense? I live in California and still see 2-3 months of near freezing temperatures... maybe you could advertise it as an additional safety feature for drivers who can't handle cold/wet roads?
@FlyinMiataVideo
@FlyinMiataVideo 2 года назад
Just like every mod or upgrade, there will be caveats to consider, and we completely understand that this battery is obviously not for everyone. Batteries, like tires, are consumables with limitations on their performance due to environment. As with any aftermarket part, practical usage must be considered to get the most of out the product, and we think the efficiency, overall cost of ownership, modern technology, dramatic weight-loss, and safety of the re-start function make this a good choice for anyone looking for an update from the traditional lead acid battery.

I’ve never had a car battery made in the last 2 decades last 5 years, let alone 9-10 years as you suggest. Most, in fact, last at best 3 years, and I’m buying interstate, could only imagine how often Walmart or AutoZone batteries die. And I live in south Texas where we almost never see freezing temps. Both will end up in the ocean😂, but the lithium will last longer and has the benefit of deep cycling.
@nakaface
@nakaface 9 месяцев назад
@@ikeray1837 All my batteries have lasted 5+ years in north Texas with temps from 20 to 110. I do throw them on a maintainer for maybe 1 weekend a year to desulfate them (battery minder unit). These have been either OEM (honda and toyota), oreillys, duracell, or interstate batteries.

And a standard car alternator will work for this? No charge controller necessary?
@FlyinMiataVideo
@FlyinMiataVideo 9 месяцев назад
For the Miata, as long as you have an alternator in good working condition, the battery will receive the charge that's required for a lithium battery. If your alternator is failing, the BMS will protect the battery if an overcurrent situation occurs.

I'm in Canada (Toronto) and have an antigravity battery in my wife's Fiesta ST "daily driver"...she works from home 5 days a week so the car rarely gets driven. Not even a hint of an issue...ever. I also have a an Antigravity in my Focus RS, stored all winter in garage with no insulation, no power for a charger and no negative terminal disconnected. Put the car away in October and started it 2 weeks, ago...powered the car on, let the battery "cycle up" for 3mins...car started 1st crank instantly. Ohh...also have an AntiGravity in my wife's MSM which is also stored all winter. Unless you live in Northern Canada I see NO issues to be worried about cold performance.

So is there a way to keep the battery operating in cold weather? I mean is there a thermal heating coil to keep it operating in cold weather. Kind of like a heating coil that some automotive use to warm up the engine in cold climate? If not, will there be one available in the future? It's kind pricey for one giving that it's not suitable in cold climate. I would love to purchase one, but I am just worry that it will failed in cold climate. I live in california and the weather changes. I park my vehicle outside so if winter comes. I don't want to deal with a dead battery that won't start if it's too cold outside in the morning.
@FlyinMiataVideo
@FlyinMiataVideo 3 месяца назад
@mrvang8077 If you live in a climate that gets truly cold in the winter, these batteries are probably not for you. We're not aware of any heating coils for these and would not recommend that you use one. While these are pricey upfront, considering their lifespan, they will likely outlive 2 standard lead acid batteries (or more). Please see our product listing to see if your winter conditions are severe enough to cause issues with these batteries!

Will they destroy your alternator? I have read that when the BMS disconnects the load on a full lifepo4 battery the alternator output skyrockets to 100V or more in a millisecond and blows the rectifying diodes

Sorry to hear that! Antigravity batteries have "smart" controllers that protect the battery from overcharging and damage. Since the car's charging system is MUCH more powerful than a motorcycle's, it probably overwhelmed the protection circuits. The antigravity batteries we sell are specifically made to work with these vehicles and are fully warranted.

I hope this battery is a viable option for some, it ain’t for me… Cost, cold weather usability, and not compatible with my Battery Tender - three strikes. I’ve had good luck with “Mazda” batteries for my Mazda3 and CX-3, so I think I’ll stick with a dealership battery for my MX-5. The battery in my ‘04 MSM is the original battery. Yes, 20 years old (date code says March of ‘04), and there’s nothing but Japanese symbols on the stickers - crazy, I know… If I manage more than five years out of a new battery I’ll be happy. To talk about batteries you actually need to know something about batteries. My flooded lead lead acid batteries have lasted 14 and 16 years in our cars. Cycles? Unimportant, these are starter batteries, not trolling motor batteries! Restart? All cars beep if the lights are left on. I've needed 2 boosts in almost 50 years due to end of life batteries. And to spend $1200 for a Lithium battery that costs $170 for an AGM at Walmart.
