When going for the KOM at 8:00, the watts you see are Rowan's watts at 52KG. Mine didn't record unfortunately, so yeah, I'm literally in a full sprint.....
@@mgalarneau Yup. Quand j'arrete desfois mon powermeter se met en pause, il faut je repart manuellement les sensors et j'avais oublier pour l'effort. Je viens d'en discutter avec l'équipe de Karoo, ca devrait être bientôt réglé
You gotta love a guy with no social media activity, no training plan, no nutrition plan, no pacing on segments, still blowing up absolutely every climb he finds.
This guy is so successful! Super cyclist, McGill university professor, a nice family, and down to earth. Great role model for both bike and life in general!
I'm just saying... Bruce Banner is a biology researcher.. So maybe Rowan created a secret formula to help him go HULK smash on the climbs and recover super fast...
It says something about the state of world tour racing as this guy would rather be a college professor. I don’t know for sure, but I would bet his salary is comparable to if not better than most world tour pros
@@joshmagrum3552 world tour is alot different then kom hunting, Phil was fast but he didnt have good fatigue resistance and would always do badly in grand tours, hed get popped after a few days.
Professor of kinesiology and multi time California state TT champ here. I’ve done 468w for 20 minutes, 480w for nearly 16 minutes, not as uncommon as you think.
This is the first video of yours I've ever seen. Super fun formate and likable personality without being over the top. So glad I discovered your channel!
So basically he has a 6w/kg with no structured training, legend. I'm in my early 30s, I'll be so happy if I'm stronger at 40 than I am now. I've only been riding hard for a year now so maybe!
Sweet Super Six Evo 👌. Approved by Dan Evans, Andrew Feather, Phil Gaimon, and Rowan Barrett. Edge 130 for me too for light weight and because that’s all I can afford and a CAAD12 😅
Awesome video. Glad to see that on my one trip to Montreal, I managed to pick some of the same roads you guys did shooting this. I actually recognize the house at 13:48.
Props to this guy. Super rider, super person. There are many anonymous, non competitive riders scattered around the world who are world class level that just ride for their own enjoyment.
Those numbers without structured training or nutrition are insane. Great he loves what he does as a professor but also a shame he didn't go pro just to see how far he would have gone in that space
Not sure how he'd fare as a pro. James Piccoli did beat him on the biggest KOM in Montreal and seems to be just average on the pro tour. His FTP is definitely world class, but other pros too and can produce it after very long rides which chances are he can't do it. His job is a much much better bet for his family.
I think the FTP charts need to be reimagined lol! First min of the climb - 546w or about 10.5w/kg (@52kg) - that's world class level shit right here. As for the whole climb 4:28 - 408w or about 7.84 w/kg! (max 5min in the chart is 7.60w/kg lol). While this effort was 30sec shorter, its still insane stats!
Really loved this all the way through, first watch of the channel. What a decent dude, so unbelievably humble at his sheer beast mode, "what the f**k!" summed up that drop situation haha. Really nice vid, nicely shot. Love it. Cheers
I miss these climbs, used to be in NDG and this stuff was at my doorstep almost... Also anyone else subconsciously hate Rowan after seeing him on your head unit so many times? Lol guy's such a beast
Love this guy, he doesnt even care if seatpost and saddle are from ebay, yet he smash almost pretty much everyone who have more expensive bike than him.👍🏻👍🏻
Really enjoyed this one Charles! Je suis cycliste à Montréal aussi et je voyais les KOM de Rowan partout, vraiment content de pouvoir découvrir la personne derrière! Big up!
interesting video. I live in Las Vegas. Which has many climbs. Love to see Barrett go against some of the cycling killers we have here locally. Phil has the KOM on our local mountain Mt. Charleston. That would be interesting to see. Anyway thanks for the content. I enjoyed it.
I think you just set the standard for on bike riding interview process. I have not seen all you vids to know if you have done this process before. Wow great job and can’t wait to see more like this. Absolutely amazing video and audio work !!!!
Thank you so much man. I've been working hard to make it better. The audio is not the best here in this video. I use two new wireless mic, but rowan mic was on his neck and mine was on my chest strap. So I couldn't use both audio. So my audio is from the gopro and his from the wireless mic. Next time it will be better!!
Loved this, Charles! Always enjoy finding out more about these more unknown riders you see on top on Strava and on Zwift. Pretty sure I remember him in races up the big KOM reverse on Innsbruck (Zwift) back in 2017/2018, when I was watching a buddy race the same races. Ofc I had no idea who he was at the time. :P
Great video man, I thought I had an original idea when I thought of something like this, turns out you have done it better and sooner than I could right now 🙂 will follow your channel and keep up the good work man
Started cycling at 42 (2y ago) was 220 pounds, now down to 180 and quite proud of my 251w FTP... Tried Camilien-Houde for the first time last week... lets just say I went all out doing over 400w all the way and didn't even come close to his time, or Piccoli's.. absolutely mind-boggling
Je reconnais toutes ces montées. Bravo Charles, your legs are still attached! It is not just his low weight, but his incredible cardio. He is talking very casually on 10% grades. He must a huge cardiac reserve.
Unreal how light he is and how high his power is considering. On flats he wouldn’t be too dangerous but going up climbs, it would be tough for even the strongest typical weight riders to match him.
Not sure why they did not mention the model of his bike but it is a SuperSix HiMod... which is a crazy light and stiff frame. (I have both a SuperSix HiMod and a Synapse HiMod... and love the both.) If you keep your eyes open you can find these bikes used at very affordable prices. I found my SuperSix HiMod with Full Dura Ace 9000 used for about $600... but it did not have carbon wheels... just some super nice Ksyrium SL's running tubeless... and a crank-based power meter. It was about 15 lbs when I bought it.
@16:20 what you said is what I've felt. Go out and ride your bike, go out and challenge your body and it will get stronger. All this precise training methods almost suggest that without them you cannot improve, this is BS. If your always pushing your current form, you'll improve. You flatline when you normalize. If your going x fast and its easier than last time, go faster. If your legs start burning but you have more breath, try and keep those legs burning without burning out yourself! Learn yourself and prosper! You don't need a watt meter or anything else, just a brain and awareness. Being light as shit helps too haha
Rowan is an absolute machine pumping out those watts at his weight. Strava segments are evil. I've just about popped a gasket a few times trying to beat younger (and much lighter) me.
52kgs with that sort of power for that kind of duration...no career in cycling. What an absolute hero, and great he is just having fun and exploring, just happens to be pretty handy when things get steep!
Here I am 6'4" 205 lean enduro dude, former XC x 8 years breathing hard sitting down watching him stand out of saddle and crush inclines and still holding conversation....LOL. Dude is a genetic freak, and obviously works hard at his craft. KUDOS.
