You can also hang light stuff from the compression straps. A cap, a compressible doggie water bowl, anything with a loop or attachment point. The compression straps can also help secure a water bottle, depending on what kind of cap you're using. The newer updated versions made the water bottle pouches more secure, also. Anyway great review thank you!

This is a great idea, and something I’ve done on a few occasions, thanks for bringing people’s attention to it! (No matter how hard you try, you always miss something out!) Glad you enjoyed!

I'd never thought I'd be spending my off hours watching....backpack reviews! And videos such as yours based on extensive hands on experience are the gold standard when it comes to meaningful information. Definitely considering the Daylite Plus.

It's funny what happens when the backpacking bug takes hold! Thanks for watching Luke.

This is a very comprehensive review, thank you so much for putting in the time to make this, and be so thorough also. I'm considering getting the Osprey Daylite Travel version as it can serve as an EDC and suitable for urban use to for when I go to and from work with my laptop. Keep up the great work!

The latest Osprey Daylite Plus model has a stretch water bottle side pockets. Your bottles wont slip out. But it does not has the external compartment for hydration bladder.
@LongWhiteGypsy
@LongWhiteGypsy 2 года назад
Yes I've seen that, would love to try it out myself to see if it really is any better than the pockets on my version. Seems a little bit deeper at least! I think doing away with the external hydration bladder compartment is probably a good decision, it would have been very uncomfortable to have actually had a bladder in there I think, even though I do like the idea that if it leaks for any reason the rest of your stuff doesn't get wet. Thanks for the comment!

Reviews complaining about the water bottle issue put me off from seriously considering this pack, but your video really sells it! Thanks for the informative video, really enjoyed it.

Great to hear, Anna! I have used this pack just about every day for the three or four years I've owned it. I love it so much I even bought everyone in my family one too!

Nice day pack. My wife got her second Osprey pack "Lumina" last fall and she loves it. She say Osprey ladies packs have the best shoulder strap design for a women's figure. Thanks and happy trails.

Good video. I'd tone down the "background" (foreground) music though. Your presentation, information, and opinion are plenty to keep us watching.

Very few backpacks are totally waterproof. I carry a separate rain cover for my backpack whenever I'm not sure about the weather. And that happens alot when living in Finland.
@LongWhiteGypsy
@LongWhiteGypsy 3 года назад
Yes, there is only a certain amount of protection even the highest 'water resistant' pack can offer. Always carry a pack liner and/or rain cover just in case. The hiking in Finland must be amazing... what are your recommended trails?

@@LongWhiteGypsy this country is pretty from top to bottom, but I think the UKK national park (Urho Kekkonen nat.park) and the Hetta-Pallas trail are both amazing! Def worth checking out. BTW, I just purchased the 2021 model of the Daylite Plus for both me and le BF and guess what - they changed the side pockets! They are now deeper and sturdier so a bottle won't fall when you bend. The water bladder pocket is now inside the bag and also functions as a laptop pocket, and the zipper pocket on the front flap is horizontal instead of vertical. I really like it, seems very practical.

how tall are you? i am 5ft 3in and just got my pack in the mail today, i worry that the grab handle will bother me. but osprey doesn't make a similar pack without it. without going double in price. did you notice it when you first tried yours on and just the weight of the gear lessened it?
@LongWhiteGypsy
@LongWhiteGypsy 3 года назад
I'm around 5'5". I know the issue you are talking about, though. I recently purchased a new Daylite for my Mum and whenever I use hers I notice that issue so I wonder whether they have slightly changed their design?. Perhaps try loosening the straps slightly and sit the pack lower down on your back. Using the hip belt on longer hikes may help also. I usually have the pack pretty heavy as well, so perhaps that is why I don't experience the same issue all the time.

Would this be good enough for camino? Im suppose to just carry 5.5kg 10% of my weight. Thanks
@LongWhiteGypsy
@LongWhiteGypsy 2 года назад
I don't see why not... I've had 5kg or more in this pack on a couple of occasions and still find it very comfortable. Bear in mind it only has a thin hip belt, so if you're used to a bit more support in this area it might take a little getting used to. The biggest concern would be how bulky your gear is and whether it could fit in the pack. Will most of your bulky or overnight gear (sleeping bag, toiletries etc.) be shuttled to the Albergues every night for you? Or do you need to carry all your gear every day?

Do you mean El Camino de Santiago in Spain? Wouldn't choose this pack. This one is good for a 1-day hike but not for a 1-month long trip with 8h of walking every day. I would recommend a 25-30l backpack, definitely with a real hipbelt, that really makes a difference. Maybe something like the Osprey Talon/Tempest. I went with a 35l backpack, but I was carrying more stuff, e.g. sleeping bag and mat.

What pack liner do you use? Thanks!
@LongWhiteGypsy
@LongWhiteGypsy 3 года назад
Hey Carlo! Really anything I have lying around. I usually just use a black bin bag (or trash compactor bag), or recently I purchased a couple of Nyloflume bags from Waymark Gear Co which have good reviews. I also have a Sea to Summit 25L pack liner in my collection which is great, but basically just try to make sure it's something that's going to keep the water out. I have been known to double up on bin bags for a cheaper but more durable option. Hope that helps!
