I’ve had my Daylite for 3 years now, and it’s seen a bunch of different conditions from mountain hiking, urban travel, planes, biking, camping, all the way to outdoor winter survival, and I have to say that I absolutely love it! Mine’s still in perfect condition, so you may have simply been unlucky in your fabric getting scuffed. The only downside to it came with the realisation that it wasn’t fully waterproof when I hiked through a storm. That being said, I’ve adjusted since, and it can hold out against quick a bit of water before it goes through. For my personal uses it’s really great, and I honestly can’t praise it enough! =D
I have had mine for about 2 years now for hiking, just took it on a Missions Trip To DR and it worked great for Airplane Travel. Plus I use the Hydration Pack for hiking. I plan to test it for commuting to work on my cycle this spring. It is the perfect size for everyday use.
I love ospreys packs and have a small medium and large pack. This is my small one! I use it for carry things for work, I use it for hiking, hammocking or even just for walks. Also Thank you for letting me know I can take off the waist straps!
I have the older version of this pack [ I used to have 2, but I gave one away]. I bought it in the fall of 2015... its been on many adventures in the woods, to other cities, and it was my daily pack for a long time... My second one was dedicated as a work bag... I can speak well to the durability of this bag... mine has a little bit more wear on the ripstop material on the face than the one displayed in the video, but it mostly looks like cosmetic damage and I'm not worried about the structural integrity... There are a couple of snags towards the bottom, but they're small and hard to see... It's not my daily pack anymore, but I still like it. If it seems like a good candidate to prospective buyers, then I totally recommend giving it consideration.
Thanks so much for this really excellent video! I've been struggling trying to make a choice online without seeing the backpacks. Your very thorough review has convinced me that this one will work well for me and I can now make a purchase with confidence.
It's a solid little pack. I like the blue-ish color with the black. I had this some years ago. I wanna say the hip belt wasn't removable back then. That was my only gripe. Nowadays I go with a Goruck Bullet 15.
@@PackHacker I like it! Love the size, and the straps are great after a little break-in period. I really appreciate the customization opportunities of molle, done in moderate quantities of course. It's perfect for getting into rucking too. My only minor complaint would be that the cordura material can tear up some shirts , but you pretty much know that going in. Or, like me, you find out after you've destroyed your expensive wool shirt, lol.
Well informed presentation there. I've had the pack for many years, and I never knew anything about the integrated whistle on the front harness strap till now. Could come in handy scaring dogs away ( or maybe attracting them!) Thanks.
I have this in a dark purple and I have to say I’m a little disappointed in the quality of material. Admittedly it’s not as expensive as the rest of the Osprey bags I have. However the feel of the material reminds me of those cheap shell suits people wore in the 80s. It’s very thin and feels disappointing compared to the Osprey Axis and the Osprey Sirrus 36 bag that I have. I love the Sirrus 36 for wild camps and hiking and that bag after 3 years is still like new and feels indestructible. However it is a totally different league of bag and in a very different price bracket so maybe I’m expecting a bit too much. However for only around £20 more than the Daylite I purchased my Osprey Axis which is made of the same high quality material as the Osprey Sirrus. I don’t know, maybe I’m being picky but for me too many corners are cut with the Daylite’s design. The lack of specific handle makes the bag slightly uncomfortable around the neck but that might just be me. I can’t seem to get the straps comfortable and have the neck area comfortable at the same time, it seems to be a one or the other thing with this bag which is mildly irritating. However with it only being 13l thankfully the load is never too heavy to be unbearable but it’s just not a comfy bag (for me at least!). It’s a real shame because it looked like it would be everything I wanted for a light weight day pack just for work and days out with the kids but it’s just lacking in so many areas. The colour is lovely. The straps look good quality and the anti sweat backing all seem to work quite well for a budget bag. However the mesh side pockets twice have allowed my water bottle to fall out on to the ground when taking my bag off my shoulders in order to get something out. I’m not sure why, but they just don’t seem strong enough to securely hold things when in transit. Anyway, it’s a decent bag for simple things like keys, phone, wallet etc but it’s not practical for much else really which is a shame. I will stick to my Osprey Axis for a day pack from now on. I originally bought the daylite for a lighter weight easy to chuck about and drag to the beach etc I guess for that it is fit for purpose but for me it was just not worth the trade off for the discomfort and cheap feel of the pack itself. Sorry, seems negative. I love the review though and it’s a good in depth look at the bag but for me it just doesn’t tick enough of the boxes of things I love about Ospreys. It almost doesn’t feel like an Osprey at all :(
Not sure if anyone will see this but this video just popped up in my recommended and realised I’d seen it before and commented….. I just wanted to actually retract what I said about it! 3 years later and this little pack still looks and feels like new. It’s been from the U.K. to Belgium, to Amsterdam and Paris and finally all over Australia with me and I can’t complain cos this bugger is still going! I also realised (a little late!) that the reason the bottle fell from the side mesh pockets was because it has the option of strapping in around the bottle but I didn’t do that initially… so my fault, not the bag. Sorry osprey, I bashed this bag for no reason. It has more than performed. Still prefer my axis though which is also still going strong but it’s just too big really to use for work or urban day to day use. Anyway sorry for the ramble but I felt I needed to accept I was wrong 😂
Thanks for the video! I'm getting this for dirt biking due to it's light weight and it should be durable enough. I've seen dirt bike specific bags with much higher delirium ratings (800ish) but this one is still pretty high. The Osprey also has the better warranty so if it rips I should be able to get it fixed/replaced.
Osprey Axis 18 is also a great EDC daypack, and has several advantages over the Daylite such as separate glasses pocket, sturdier harness and it can easily take a 14" laptop plus a tablet. Would love to see a review of the Axis 18 by Packhacker :-)
I wouldn't expect a laptop sleeve for a pack of this size..it's clearly not meant as an office or school bag. There are plenty of other options if someone wants space for one's tech stuff. As a general freetime or travel day pack it works fine IMO.
Do yourself a favor and checkout the Daylite Plus. Its got the same 'pros' as this one and more. It costs just a little more and you get a lot more so check it out.
I had to send this pack back, despite it's many great reviews. The integrated handle at the top dug into my neck and was a deal breaker. Change the design, Osprey!
Does the bag stay standing up when put down on the ground or do you have to lean it up against something to stop it falling over (like my North Face bag does)?
Hi there. I got tropos 34L. But I thought ts bit bigger to use for daily office use. Should I cancel my purchase of Osprey Daylite Daypack, Black 2016, 302837. Please help me ASAP.
Pack Hacker actually no . I’m a French Flight Attendant and looking for something smaller than all my packs to stay in my suitcase all year long . That why know the Daylite and Daylite plus . I’ve tried some packable pack but sue to the lack of structure i switch to a « real » backpack ... tomorrow i’ll fly to SF and probably look at the Daylite and Daylite plus and compare them
Brice MATHIEU. I may suggest you the Daylite Plus (20L) over the Daylite (13L), because it can carry a little more stuff and has more pockets. The Daylite Plus is slightly bigger than the the Daylite when you compare it on a table, so it will take no place at all it your suitcase if laying flat in it. Hello from Quebec, Canada!! ✈️
Regarding laptop sleeve, my Surface Pro fits great in the Daylite and is comfortable to use with it. PLUS! at the bottom is extra padding to prevent the laptop from hitting the ground when placing it down.
Question! You know the Salomon trailblazer 10?? I want one lightweight backpack mainly to travel, I usualy rent a bike or do some trecking when I travel, plus obiously the day use to know places, city tours, museums, etc.. I hate the packable daypacks because are thin, breakable, and whit no ventilation on the back, I broke some ones, and I have sweated with them on hot days. So I´m looking for one like this to cary inside my "backpack carry on". I can´t decide between this Osprey, and the Salomon, because the Salomon seams to be more ligthweit, but I don´t know the quality (look more thin and weak but were I live don´t find any of two so I have to buy it online), and the salomon has 3 lt less and thin, and mainly I don´t know if the diference of weigt is significant to travel.. Repeat, I travel only whit Backpack of 40 lts like a carry on, so I need to carry the litle backpack inside, between the clothes. Can you help me to decide?
Hey TheStratSound! We haven't tested the Trailblazer 10 but the Daylite could be a good option. You may want to consider a sling. The Patagonia Atom Sling is a popular option. Check out our review here: packhacker.com/travel-gear/patagonia/atom-sling/ - Austin
Hey refresh77 - we tested this pack in Black. You can find out more info in our full written review packhacker.com/travel-gear/osprey/daylite/ 😊👍 - Rebecca
