I thought the ending was pretty mature for a kids movie. More realistic and not completely "happy" but still has it's upsides. Also, I can't not praise Sox for carrying the film.

As a long time fan of Toy Story, I can understand how it’s hard to accept this a “Buzz Lightyear” film. However, I actually quite enjoyed it. I loved all the nostalgic references and the plot twists. The fact that Zurg is actually an evil variant of Buzz himself makes their rivalry all the better. And that’s because Buzz is forced to confront his own worst enemy and flaws and accept that mistakes can’t be fixed, only that you can learn from them and be better as a person. 🧑🏻‍🚀👩🏿‍🚀💚💜🤍🌌🪐✨

Yeah I enjoyed it too. I think my biggest issue with it was just how it kinda wrote a lot of stuff that didn't fit with the already established lore about Zurg's character. I get that it was just a star wars joke reference in the originals, but they still have to stick with it or it doesn't make sense.

@@sh_joy maybe that’s the point. This is supposed to be an origin for Zurg as well. Think about it; with the crystals destroyed he can’t time travel and undo the mistake ever. So if there’s a sequel, this would be his mantra: If I can’t repair the past, then I’ll rule the future by conquering the present.

My favorite part of the movie was Buzz's character arc. He made a mistake and he feels compelled to fix it, until he realizes that some good came out of it. It's a really touching story. Plus, Sox is the best! Just out of curiosity, which would you rather have, Sox or Baymax?

About Baymax, I like him as a character, unlike Olaf or that pink hybrid from Inside Out which would make the movies way better if they weren’t in it. Baymax is cool and cute, but some jokes like the one at the police station simply don’t make me laugh. Tbh it’s been a while since I watched the movie, but I remember there were some scenes that would’ve made it better if it was more natural. Sorry for my lack of references, but my memory’s more based on emotion when it comes to movies, rather than the actual scene. Just for the record, I really like Baymax, I just prefer Sox.

@@CervusLavandula I personally don't think Baymax is supposed to be the laugh out loud type of funny I think he's meant to be the warm smile type where his cluelessness is just there to make you smile (also I get Olaf can be annoying but I don't think Frozen 1 and 2 would be the same without him but I see your point) also the pink hybrid was Bing Bong and I found some scenes with him very funny but he did seem kinda annoying until he started being more serious. Sorry about getting off topic

I can see why this movie didn’t get the high praise it deserved, but even so. It’s a movie within a movie judging by the framed narrative. The setting is 1995. The year Toy Story debuted. Cap himself Chris Evans taking over for Tim Allen is an interesting take on the namesake space ranger Buzz.

I don't have a problem with the movie itself (it's weird at times, but enjoyable while having a decently dark edge.) My issue is with the text scroll at the beginning. This movie feels more like a gritty/live action reboot from the 2020's than a fun scifi movie from the 90's. It just doesn't have the atmosphere or feel. It certainly doesn't help that there's ALREADY a Buzz Lightyear franchise! The animated series, and it's pilot movie! Yeah it's cornball and goofy, but it FEELS 90's which this movie just doesn't match. Still, imo, Lightyear isn't a bad movie. Just a missed opportunity.

Just finished watching Lightyear and I also gotta say that it wasn’t what I expected. The best part of the movie for me is Sox! He adds just the right amount of humor, very efficient in his contribution to Buzz and his team…what more can I say about him, he’s a wonderful character! How this film actually flopped at the box office, I’ll never know. I overall had a good time watching Lightyear.🙂

I actually loved Sox. I’m usually very skeptic every time they add a companion in a movie because the humour seems too forced. Like Olaf, the pig from Moana and the pink imaginary hybrid from Inside Out. I actually hated those three because the humour was too stupid for me and they were mostly useless. But sidekicks like Mushu and Sox are actually well written, and I really liked this one!

Controversy aside, the reason why this flopped at the box office is because like Solo: A Star Wars Story, it was a spin-off that no one seemed interested in. Tim Allen didn’t return either. The connection to Toy Story in the marketing felt for confusing. And due to Pixar being absent in theaters for two years, people have pretty much gotten used to waiting for new Pixar films on streaming.

Such a damn shame why this movie was banned in cinemas for the first time for pixar movies in certain countries including Malaysia, Brunei & middle eastern countries simply because of 'that' few second controversial lesbian kiss scene during the montage of the film. 🙄 But now is out on D+, better than nothing.

Honestly, I still pretty much enjoyed Buzz Lightyear overall despite certain grievances. There are some issues with this movie were I personally felt parts of it could've been handled or done a bit better, like I didn't really care for Emperor Zurg being just a older version of Buzz just seems real cliche like seen it before type of thing. But either way I still liked this movie especially with the somewhat more mature tone of this movie.

The real plot twist here is that Buzz just found the Zurg-ship, then stole and destroyed the property of real Zurg, including the mech. So that's why his father aka real Zurg wants to destroy Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story 2. And yeah, the eyes of the mech did light up again after end credits, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the mech is functional or that it would be used in the sequel we are never gonna see. Maybe old Buzz died or Zurg killed him or the eyes light up for some other reason, because the Zurg toy isn't a mech.

I thought this film was amazing, Chris Evans was a great choice for Buzz, the characters were funny, the animation and score was beautifully well done and I love all the nods and homages to classic iconic Sci Fi films like Star Wars, 2001 and Interstellar and not to mention all the callbacks to the OG Toy Story films. Don’t care what anyone says, this film was awesome.

Also some other animated movies you need definitely to see is the Secret of NiMH from legendary Don Bluth, the Breadwinner and Wolfwalkers both done by the same studio Cartoonsaloon. Not to mention a underrated gem of a animated musical movie "Cats Don't Dance ".

The reason they didn't just call another planet is that they might not have had the tech to send a signal millions of lightyears in every direction for someone to maybe pick up. Secondary even if they're only a hundred Lightyears from the nearest colonized planet, a radio wave is only ever gonna travel at light speed. So it's gonna be a hundred years before any one hears their message and even start getting the resources needed to send a rescue mission out which is going to take several more years.

I like this movie overall, just a few things that made it not perfect for me. 1. Was upset that Zurg was a "twist"villain. Didn't think he would be until the release date of the movie, then I was like "Aw crud, this is going to be a twist villain, isn't it?" Him being future Buzz was not my favourite(and where exactly was his Death Star that Buzz spoke of in "Toy Story"? And why wasn't he named "Emperor Zurg"? 2.Sort of sad that we didn't get actual Star Command until the end(keep in mind, I'm a 90's kid, so I used to love the series "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command"and the characters therein. 3.There's no way in hell anyone in 1995 would be okay with putting an openly gay relationship in a kids movie. It's still hard enough to show those THESE days. Things I loved: 1.Zurg will return. 2.Lost my shit when Buzz popped up with the "wings"and shouted "Not today Zurg!" 3.The animation was great. And Sox was hilarious.

to be fair in the 90s gay stuff existed and the one in lightyear was a kiss on the cheek. also how did the release date tell you he would be a twist villain

@@tobsonasanya4765 No, I mean on the day I was going to see the movie, I was like "Oh crap, I bet the twist is going to be theres someone inside the suit." Disney and Pixar have been going all out with "twist"villains the last few years.

Even though it has Flaws and the Same Sex Romance wouldn't be Appreciated in the 90s,I Honestly Love this Movie and in My Opinion Toy Story 4 is The Worst Pixar Movie and Lightyear is a Good Underrated and Solid Movie,also you Forgot One More Ending Credit Scene in the End.
