Personally while I think it's important to not overlook the good that comes out of bad (or even catastrophic) events it still can't even remotely be considered a good thing when bad so drastically outweighs the good. Also the thing you were feeling familiar about at the start was the Fallout 4 opening.

This is my second, or third I lost count, most hyped reaction. Panini is now my favorite sub-word for Pande-nono. During the Panini, we got hit pretty hard by pandemonium. We had trouble getting food and basic supplies, then my grandfather got taken by cancer and we were stacked by his medical bills and funeral costs. Things are slowly improving for us now but it was bad for a while.

Lila, you are most likely correct when you said that computer components you got during the pandemic were inferior and failed faster. It is one of the aspects of supply and demand people forget about, it doesn’t just affect price, during scarcity, quality control is thrown out the window.

Especially further into the pandemic after the shipping delay catches up to us. Electronics manufacturers don't just have one source for capacitors, and if the best one is low on supply due to a covid shutdown, there goes the durability

As a retail worker, I hated everything about the Pandemic. Never got a day off, worked 12+ hours with only 8 hours worth of pay, almost got stabbed over food, lost hazard pay, and never had any PPE to use. We got treated like trash, abused, and attacked. I wish I could have enjoyed the Pandemic. But no. Hope we never go back.

I was one of the "essential workers" during the 2020 - 2022 height of the panic, and we had weeks of toilet paper shortage too. Yes, we initiated a one pack per customer rule, but it still kept leaving the shelves faster than it could be restocked. Even when Boris put forward his rule of only one trip out per day, we still had locals turning up to the shop several times in order to do shopping as if nothing was going on. We started selling facemasks, and people would maybe buy a pack if they forgot theirs, but that didn't stop people seemingly not knowing how to wear them. Then, slowly, everything just started returning to normal. Man, I miss those days of being able to just stand outside the shop, listen to the peace of the absolute silence, and tell people that they can't come in because there are too many people in already.

8:58 Before toilet paper was a common thing, people would often use things like the Sears catalog, which was huge and similar to newsprint / phone books, not glossy paper in those days. So yeah, newspaper probably works. Toilet paper was invented around 1850, but wasn't all that popular...probably because SPLINTER FREE toilet paper wasn't invented until 1935!

during 2020 they got rid of all non-essential staff at almost every factory across the globe this meant there wasn't any QA testing going on, tons of broken or half broken stuff was being sold, since there wasn't anyone to check if what was being sold was any good either. even games and movies that released that year are kinda.. iffy. i didn't eat anything fresh the whole time since there were so many cases of listeria, salmonella, etc as well. since barely anyone was testing food either. like at first i kinda just ignored it, but then my aunt and cousins all got food poisoning.. then one of my friends a week later, that made me realize how bad it'd gotten.

Heya! This is the first video of yours I've seen, but it you seem chill. On the topic of Discord, to my knowledge, they supposedly aren't GDPR compliant, which schools and 'serious businesses' need to take, well... seriously. I don't like Zoom either, but it still sees use to this day. For all the challenges and all the pain the 'panini' brought, in my case, it actually helped me break out of my shell. Also nice to have more sources of "Main in Cave" after IH's original video got purged... again :p
@LilaoftheWind
@LilaoftheWind Год назад
thanks for sharing this! after googling, it appears discord updated their policy in may 2023 to become GDPR compliant, but considering that they were fined last fall for GDPR violations, it seems they only took steps to be more secure after being punished... so discord is definitely something to be cautious about. as for the panini, same for me! the panini was a much needed break from an unsustainable cycle of many things, it encouraged me to move forward in unconventional ways, and it was the happiest and most prosperous times of my life. me, my friends, and my family weren't harmed by it, although it made us worry sometimes. it was just as if we had to stay away from another for a while. i'm grateful for what that era gave me. for others, that same era wasn't as kind.

21:30 that might actually be the case. Because of the general semiconductor shortage, some manufacturers couldn't get the subcomponents they needed to make their products, and ended up going with different suppliers, or adapting their circuits to different components altogether.

I live in Finland, 70% of our country is covered in forest and we have healthy timber export, YET, for some reason we had mini Toilet Paper crisis as well. I don't get how people got that worried of running out considering factories were running, saws were spinning in forests and new trees were planted next year to replace previous trees. Finnish joke here: TheVarus times were hard to us as well. W.H.O told people to keep 1 meters (3 feet) distance from others. This meant we Finns had to get closer to each others than we normally would 🤷‍♂

It is also thanks to my dad that we had toilet paper during the pandemic, he would go with my mom shopping every week, and even though we had most of the 8 to 10 rolls of toilet paper that came in the pack he still had my mom buy a new pack every week. Coming from someone who grew up in poverty, believe me, you can use newspaper. You don't want to flush it, but you'll use just about anything if you can't afford the real thing. And people throw out perfectly good newspaper all the time. And you'll use anything, if it means avoiding washing "used rags" later 😅

@14:12 The issue people were having with 5G at the time wasn't about electromagnetic hazards. At least not for most people. The buzz in the news was about changes to how the 5G standard moved data around. While potentially faster and with greater bandwidth than earlier generations it also centralized some of the data processing. It also creates a checkpoint for the system where either by accident or intention could impact a large amount of people around the globe who use the service. That made it a trust and risk issue to availability for services that use a 5G network. Some governments decided that they wanted that centralized infrastructure within their own borders so they could exercise more control or regulation over what is an essential service these days.

Long ago and far away, back when I was still living in an apartment, I used to keep c.120 liters of water (in 2-liter bottles and 1-gallon jugs) socked away in cubbyholes all over the place. My friends all thought that I was kind of weird. In 15 years living in apartments in the same area, I completely emptied that stock of water 3 times...not because the world ended, nor from a pandemic, nor a nukulur war....but because city workers had a nasty habit of punching through public water mains when doing road work, knocking water service out for three or four days at a stretch. My neighbors would break their wallets renting hotel rooms to shower in, and snagging water from the grocery store...me? I was cooking, making coffee, cleaning, bathing and flushing the toilet, all without spending a dime. .....And yes -- I still have that same amount on standby, as I type this.

I mean I was on vocal every day with my friends and my coworkers, so I was talking to people. But going from "taking public transports and seeing lots of people everyday" to "seeing one neighbour in his garden once in a while" made me realize that I liked seeing people around me, even if I don't talk to them. I'm currently in what will finally be the last surgery recovery after a hellish Panini. For me, the hellish part was that just as the Panini was starting to pick up speed, I came down with medical issues that needed attention, and I had to wait over a year and a half to get it, because all the doctors were busy handling the Panini. The great irony is that if you discount that; I really liked what the Panini did. I very much didn't have to change my lifestyle at any point. It was very relaxing honestly, and tbh, I never quite got why so many struggled with it. I just got the impression must people don't make their home a place they want to spend extended amounts of time in; and that sounds sad to me.

I made my own hand sanitizer... Being a preper.. or sorts.. growing up with the very real threat of homelessness.. I don't remember the technical term for the chemical without digging it out.. It's called BAC50, buuuut basically it's in most sterilizers and sanitizers but also sold as Anti-Algae in large quantities, and you dilute it 100:1 to make a basic hand wash.. so a 5ltr bottle will give you 500ltrs of sterilizer.. and if you use food grade glycerin you end up with something that doesn't dry out your skin too.. So I used water to make a wash to rub down handles and stuff, and glycerin for hand sanitizer. I have the immune system of a god, so wasn't worried and wouldn't have bothered, but, I care for a sick mum, so had to protect her :)

Not only toilet paper was bought on mass, but I noticed a certain lack of anything pasta and oatmeal related as well.

People did actually take the same issue with the 4G towers as well, back in the day.

The problem at least in Europe wasn't that the factories making the toilet paper shut down, it came down to logistics. There's almost no money in shipping toilet paper compared to other essential goods, so the factories were stock full but the shelves were still empty. The few truck drivers that were able to work simply had more important stuff to ship .. like .. hand sanitizer and masks 🤣
