I just planted two lilac bushes this spring. I had no idea that there were any medicinal properties to it. I just wanted them for the beauty and the smell. God is great thank you so much for your information.

One year, for Mother’s Day, my kids went in the woods and dug up a young lilac tree and brought it home for me 🥰. We planted it in the front yard and it blooms beautifully every year! It’s my favorite spring scent!! I do have some flowers soaking in sweet almond oil, can’t wait to use it. Blessings to you!

I infused lilacs in Witch Hazel for 2 weeks as a Face Toner Spray. It's supposedly similar to Aloe Vera as far as benefits for the skin. Also have some sitting on some grass fed beef tallow to make a kind of perfume, forgot what it's called lol but I may add some rose to it or lavender for the final thing ❤

As a little girl my Grandmother taught us about a Lilac sweets she called it. Pluck a flower off and suck from the stem part. It's sweet and tastes so good. She had two huge Lilac bushes and every spring we would pick one bush for Lilac sweets and for Lilac sugar. She would put the flowers in sugar and we would have sweet tea with Lilac sugar all summer. Great memories. :) I just taught my little nephew, he's 5, this spring and he kept going in his neighbors yard plucking flowers to have himself some Lilac sweets. LOL I got a scolding for that one. I told his parents that its better than candy. Hehe

I don’t have lilac in my garden but I enjoyed hearing about the benefits of them. I bought a 3 ring binder, plastic sheet protectors & dividers from the Dollar Tree and started a section on each of the herbs I have, and another section on formulas for use. I think I will divide them by illnesses like cold, fevers, skin care… As I add herbs, I can add to my book and know what I have. Thanks Heidi! Many Blessings!!

My bushes are huge and healthy, but rarely get flowers. I think it's because of where I'm at, had more snow just a week ago, while 10 minutes away, lower elevation, the flowers are now done. Luckily I was able to get flowers and have almost 2 quarts dehydrated. 😊

@@gardengatesopen This time I happened to see them very early spring in Costco and they were really healthy. The one's I tried before never looked very good (I tried ordering them and picked some up at big box stores but no go). I have an area that's very dappled sunshine so I planted them there with lots of compost, made a dirt moat around each one to keep the water around them and water, water, water. Then I watered with a root stimulator to try to get the roots as well established as I could before the serious heat kicked in. I still have all three but one isn't doing as well as the other two. I've used Miracle Gro fertilizer on them a couple of times but not since it's gotten to be 100°. My violas that I tried to summer over have pretty much died back regardless of how much I watered them so I'm amazed the lilacs are doing so well. ☺️

Wow amazing video! I always appreciate all of your research! I have always enjoyed lilacs. The scent is intoxicating! I had no idea it had so many different health benefits! I had a gorgeous one where I lived and after I moved they chopped it down, it was so devastating because it had the most gorgeous huge blooms on it! It was actually planted on a bank so I am thinking it must have loved it there, I am not sure but I think the soil was a bit of red clay and sandy. Anyways God bless u all! I went to the doc today and my last scan actually showed that the cancer had grown a tiny bit and my blood pressure is dangerously too high and there was a mass in my main artery but they don't know what it is, maybe scar tissue idk. I have to work on my blood pressure and I don't want to take the meds! I also have to take a sleep apnea test. I learn something new every day, I never knew any of this. I have a huge lilac tree in my front yard which sadly suffered an attack by a neighbour with problems last year so I only have flowers at the highest branches but I'm happy to have the scent of them in my bedroom and all through the house. I also have a small one in my back yard which hasn't flowered yet, I believe it's a Korean variety, looking forward to the scent of that also. There are many lilacs around here so I have their scent while working in my garden. Thank God for our sense of smell, I lost mine very briefly during a very brief episode of covid this winter. I am so grateful for all my senses but to be able to savour God's floral creation is one of the joys of our very short summers. Thanks for the information.

After I watched this video, I decided to make some tea from the leaves (my flowers didn't show up this year due to a late spring heavy snowfall). WOW! Even hubby who likes pretty much anything he can eat or drink nearly gagged on it. NASTY tasting. Not sure what we could have done different - even added honey (waste of good honey as we couldn't drink the tea). Maybe it's better when it's been dried? What else can I do with the leaves that would be good for us and won't ruin whatever we put it with? I so wanted this to be terrific... Thanks!

I have not tried tea from the leaves, only the flowers. I have tasted a leaf though, did not care for it but the leaves are more for medicinal use rather than enjoyment like the flowers are. We have a huge lilac bush that's at least 50 years old that my grandmother plant goodness knows when. It is very very fragrant. It literally feels like it's closing up my lungs when I ever get near it. The wisteria growing everywhere does the same thing. I love the smell but even as a little girl I couldn't go near it.

I live in AZ & I have a lilac bush that I picked up at Tractor Supply a few months ago. I have it growing in a bucket so I can move it with me once I get some land to grow on.

just a thought, but perhaps a small amount added to a mixed greens blend?? I used up a bunch of flowers to make a lilac vinegar. Love to use this for my hair rinse. :)

My neighbour has a huge lilac tree and allowed me to harvest a bunch of its flowers and leaves. I made a tea using fresh flowers and leaves, and loved it. I also dehydrated enough to fill a 1 litre mason jar to enjoy now that the flowers have all died off. I hope to try more things next year, like infused oil and maybe an infused honey or jam. Can you let me know how to use the seeds?

I have lots of lilacs but they bloomed a month ago here. I have had a terrible time getting wild blackberries after living in WA because they are 2 months earlier here.

I very much love the way lilacs smell ! Unfortunately, they don't really grow too well where I live, just not enough chill hours to create blooms. That's most Winters anyway! I'm in Central Tx, zone 8b, and while the zone refers to the cold temps, I'm also not sure the Lilacs would be ok with our very humid, and high heat of our Summers too... I guess it's a double whammy for them! Maybe I'm wrong? Maybe if I ignored the growing recommendations they would still grow here anyway? I could put them in dappled shade under a deciduous tree for hot Summer protection. And they could still get some good Springtime full sun. Then I could hope for a very cold Winter. (Which honestly, I never hope for that!) But just maybe that would do the trick?!! I did find a plant nicknamed California Lilacs which are very similar to regular Lilacs, at least in the asthetic sense. They do flower with less chill hours, and are supposed to have that same great fragrance. However, I believe they are very different horticulturally. So, not helpful medicinally, as far as I know! (I could be totally wrong about that too, they might be medicinal as well... ?) At any rate, it has always been a dream of mine to live amongst the Lilacs!! And if that ever happens for me, it's good to know they will also be part of my medicinal garden!! Thank You for doing the research, the info is fantastic!! I may just have to settle for making a friend up North, and have them mail me some dried blooms & leaves!! Altho I'd MUCH rather grow them myself! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

mie have been gone for a month or more and didn't last very long this year. they barely opened and were gone so I missed them again. Thank for your vlog. Thanks for info on diabetes as I am diabetic, however my doctor has taken me of all meds but still borderline. didn't know I could use the leaves as i have lots of those. I have used flowers in salad and intended to dehydrate some, but was to lat.

Sadly, between shooting this video and it publishing, all my flowers coming on shriveled up and died because of the cold so I am getting nothing this year after all. So disappointed

Heidi, this is great! I'm just sorry I found this only now! I have 9 gorgeous lilacs of several different purple hues, a white one, and a pink one. I love them so much and I am so sad when they are gone. I don't know how to make tinctures, lotions, etc. Maybe I will just get the petals dried now and learn how to use them later. Trying to send a picture of my favorite one that was gorgeous this year, but now she's fading!😢😢
