I served in the Cold War. I have a very special friend of mine 90 years old, who was in Korea. When we first met I asked him how he made staff sgt. So quickly. He said I was blown up in a tank. When The smoke cleared, his tank commander was laying beside him without a head. He’s old, bent over somewhat, and feeble. Every time I see him I think about how much more of a man he is than I will ever be. He still has shrapnel in his body.

My grandpa was a medic in Vietnam. He died in 2015 when I was 11 in 19 now and I regret every day not asking him questions about the war

57,000 ROK soldiers died in Vietnam alongside US troops. Thank you for sharing your moving story. My father who was in Korean War and Vietnam, told me that in combat he could see the mark of death on soldiers face just before he died. Years later I saw a Twilight Zone rerun episode written by Rod Serling in which a young infantry lieutenant can see the mark of death on soldiers face before they died and just as he was being sent back to the Stateside, he sees that mark of death on his own face.

They were soldiers from North Dakota towns like Strasburg. Some of the farmers have German accents to this day. Dead on accurate. ya,

Snipers never take cover under a landmark.

And snipers were never taken prisoner.

And the fact that the PFC keeps on calling all the NCO’s “sir” but they covered the accents pretty well by giving the strongest English speakers the most lines and with some colloquialism that makes a foreign speaker sound more natural.

My Uncle Claude started his time at bat against the German Army in Algeria November 1942. When the Great World of 2 ended he was up at the Brenner Pass. He fought all through Sicily and all the way through Italy and ended up in Austria . October 1945 he came home to his town in Virginia with Parkinsons disease at age 22.

I love the fact that our Russian friend has learnt nothing from these films. He believes still that because his country bled buckets it gives him the right to continue and propagate hatred. Unfortunately while most reasonably human beings wish to live in peace blokes like this will see us stepping over our dead kids so he can feel superior. Same old same old, nothing changes.

Было бы интересно посмотреть на их короткий фильм про Бабий Яр например. Или про то что случилось с советскими военнопленными в 41м году. Или про целиком уничтоженные деревни вместе с жителями. Я могу такой список длинный написать. А то глядя их фильмы, нацисты просто няшки, улыбаются и спрашивают как дела?

@@user-bo8ps5fg9s я заметил , кстати , что в их фильмах про стычки с советскими солдатами нам показывают исключительно немецкие личности с их мыслями , воспоминаниями о семье , переживаниями и тд. А советские солдаты ......это просто враги , обезличенная масса , которая , к тому же туповато , бестолково воюет и попадает по немцам лишь случайно или во время обстрелов. А американские солдаты всегда представлены более благородно и человечно , что и семьи у них и дети и все такое. Разговоры друг с другом. Мол ....все люди и американцы и немцы. Да и воюют американцы в этих фильмах на порядок слаженнее и профессиональнее. К чему я это ? Предвзятые фильмы с явным продуманным перекосом в сторону германской армии и нации в целом. Типа , все они там подневольно и умирать не хотят. Но воюют профессионально и умело , даже в невыгодных условиях. Про сжигание деревень вместе с жителями , мы тут никогда не увидим. Этого как-бы и не было вовсе. 100 % начало обеления и оправдания нацизма .

der trompetenspieler ist sicherlich muttersprachler und das englisch der anderen kommt uns in erster linie deshalb authentisch vor, weil wir als deutsche den akzent nicht so stark wahrnehmen. der ist nämlich schon ganz schön dick, wenn man mal genau hinhört =D aber mühe gegeben haben sie sich! die mussten einige szenen sicher x mal aufnehmen, damit es halbwegs locker rauskommt^^

German uniforms were very impractical when fighting the Soviets. Their boots had hobnails in the soles which conducted the bitter cold which froze many Germans in sub-zero conditions. It was the same with their steel helmets which froze their brains. From head to toe, the poor conscripts shivered. They would gladly have swapped their lighter uniforms which could not keep them warm for the Soviet vatnik (ватник), a Russian cotton wool-padded jacket which trapped body heat. Instead of the German jackboots which allowed frostbite, the Soviets wore valenki (ва́ленки) which were winter felt boots and to prevent heat loss through the head the Soviets would prefer their ushanka (уша́нка) which is a Russian fur cap with ear-flaps. Take your pick.

Some fashion industry today like Boss designed Nazi uniforms for looks but not for practicality.

Yes shall they rest in peace and their sacrifice not be in vein and WE learn from their mistakes...

Thank you for sharing this! I am constantly sharing with people what I have learned from studying World War II especially the Third Reich. First I had to understand what made this come into existence, what was going on in the German country, and I found many important reasons. Many things that are going on here in our own country now. In our American culture through our schooling and through the media they have Not shown any empathy for the German side At All! 😡 Not only for the soldiers and their families but for the innocent civilians as well. The pain they suffered before, during and after the war is Horrendous and it's Not talked about! 😡🤯😰 💔 I am not here to blame anyone, nor shame anyone, nor disrespect any soldiers or civilians on any side. I simply want to Learn The Truth Without Propaganda! I hope we can all look at all sides so that we can all move on and hopefully we can all attain Peace & Love on Earth once and for all with respect and care for one another! ❤️🙏

@@wingedlyon Living in Austria, my great grandfathers were called into the Wehrmacht back then. It indeed was a terrible time, where a part of the population hated an other part of the same population, and those who didn't were shunned and treated as traitor with dire consequences. Of course this doesn't and will never excuse the atrocities that were commited (willingly or not). One of my great grandfathers denied joining the Wehrmacht and was hanged for treason. The other great grandfather was lost in Stalingrad, and one fell during a battle at the Italian front. The Wehrmacht was made of all sorts of people, mostly though of ordinary people, conscripts and professional soldiers. Whatever they might have believed in that the war was justified turned into tiredness. Tiredness of killing, tiredness of loss, tiredness of fear, tiredness of waiting, tiredness of surviving, tiredness of pain, exhaustion, starvation, illness and sadness. They all wanted it to end, they all wanted to go home. And often, when they tried to stop it, they were branded as traitors by commanding officers or zealous comrades that reported them, ending up executed. Most of them weren't Nazis. Same with the civilians, whereas the population believed in the justification and propaganda for this war, they grew tired as well, tired of the losses, the sadness, the fear, tiredness of a regime that forced people to spy on each other, to report any behavior that was agains the regime's policy. It is a sad, dark and terrible chapter of humankind and especially central europe, but it is sad as well that everywhere on this world it is taught and shown, how bad, evil and inhuman the Wehrmacht was, while the were as well, only human, suffering like the Allied Forces, maybe even more so, knowing that what they fought for was wrong, and showing any remorse or resistance could mean death. They were basically trapped between dying by illness, accidents or enemy forces, and being executed for insubordination. Games like Medal of Honor and Call of Duty, Company of Heroes and so on, they are great games, but they only show the heroism and suffering of the Allied Forces, glorifying them while showing off the Wehrmacht as heartless robots. Same for many movies back then.
