That Toronto bull permeates well outside that cesspool. The rest of Ontario and to another degree the country, wind up paying for those idiots. Seems to me that we might be well to throw that city out of the country if they don't get their s4it together.
Toronto is loaded with lefties. I was born and raised there but I could see the writing on the wall and got out. Let them pay for what they voted for. They can vote her out if they don't like the increase. As a lefty, she is going for 10% a year for the coming years. I think that Torontonians collectively would rather pay more as they value the leftist agenda.
What would you expect from the wife of the late Jack Layton, the former head of the federal NDP? Lower taxes? Toronto knew her politics, knew her socialist views, so please, Toronto, don’t cry. Rejoice that this is who and what you voted in. And when 40% of Toronto votes for her again, I will have no pity. As they say, you get what you vote for, and I saw this coming.
64% of people voted against Chow. All of the three major candidates/names were right of centre, but they split the votes, but Toronto asked for it with the terrible voter turnout.
Being a NDP politician; Chow will probably get some help from Trudeau to keep this liberal/NDP government alive. The citizens of Toronto are getting exactly what they voted for.
My sister lives in a rent control apartment in Toronto and she voted for this. I asked her if she noticed anything different in her building this winter. She admitted it seemed to be colder in her apartment this winter. So the landlord turned down the heating set point. Enjoy Toronto.
Once the West separates, the United States will not hesitate to invade and annex "independent" Western Canada. Remember that the United States invaded and annexed Hawaii, a sovereign country, without any hesitation when the time was right. You're absolutely delusional if you think an independent Western Canada can defend itself against the might of the U.S. Armed Forces.
I'm sure if there were an honest electoral investigation anywhere in the country, I'd bet most elections are rigged, even in Toronto. I wear my "Fuck Trudeau" t shirt downtown and I get high fives, etc...
@@glenrodrigue8269 yep the so called 'equalization payments' that TurdDough Sr enshrined in legislation to benefit his home province the corrupt thieving Queerbek who've also been allowed to hold sway over the national narrative for far far too long. When Ontariowe became a 'have not' province during the 2007-2008 recession they too tapped into that money and continue to do so, though Queerbek still gets the lions share of it. Thus we need to have some major discussions regarding the money that is transferred from the productive western Provinces, as well as the amount of control that Queerbek is allowed to have over the rest of us, which must be removed from them asap to force them to become a true equal member of confederation or lose every little bit of power they have forever. Especially since nearly ten years ago they are NO longer a have not province being able to balance their budget all on the backs of the western provinces particularly Alberta an Saskatchewan due to our oil wealth that was stolen away by successive liberal or Progressive conservative federal governments and only just started to be corrected under Harper. The west in fact has far more reason to be focused on separation from confederation than Queerbek as we've been exploited by the same Laurentian elites since we first entered confederation after being divided into two separate provinces by the then Lieberal Queerbek based PM. So time for the rules governing this confederation of provinces and territories to be rewritten giving more power to the separate governments and limiting the power of one or two provinces and the federal governments opportunity to use and exploit the wealth and productivity of the other eight provinces and three territories along with making sure that all are given equal parliamentary seats, and power compared to the federal government. The feds should only be looking after the most essential federal responsibilities like national defense, health standards, and social service standards but not the funding of those unless it's a completely 50/50 split between the provinces and federal governments as originally intended. Thus removing the taxation and spending abilities of new and existing federal governments. Wouldn't you agree that it's better to let the provincial and territorial governments be allowed to make the important decisions that would effect their citizens instead of the remote and out of touch federal government thus ensuring that the locals make the choices what would be made the spending priorities like the infrastucture and social programs instead of the out of touch feds? Secondly the electorate we who vote for the governments should be allowed the power of a recall vote if any or all politicians don't work to secure our wants and needs, and to right of recall of any federal politician or party from power in other words it wouldn't be the politicians in parliament or the regional legislatures that would be making the choice but the majority of we who are their employers and bosses to make the choice about who retains power ever.
Absolutely maddening to see this City spend money promoting Black history by making a 'diversity' exhibit regarding the first Black woman transit driver. Why not just use this money to actually hire a Black TTC driver? Same for the rest of the DEI crap.
When will Canadians learn that politicians make promises they don't keep. When you vote for an NDP candidate, you vote for more taxes and redistribution of money. They always make things worse because they don't understand the consequences of their foolish decisions.
Looks like home owners will bare the brunt of the city's increase in costs thereby subsidizing rental units. If I were a home owner I'd be "piss....!!!!"
Mind blowing Toronto elected her. incompetence celebrates 😢 Half of Toronto are renters who don’t pay taxes and looove the idea of “controlled rent” I was rooting for Brad Bradford 😔
Good point, although the rent increases are regulated and capped . Then who voted for her? You must be nuts to vote for her if you’ve got a house or a business in Toronto. To your point, renters who think for two seconds won’t vote for her either. Then who?????🤔🤔
Are we sure the tax hike will actually cover the deficit? What about next year? If spending increases at all taxes will increase again next year. Will taxes have to increase every year from now on?
Ottawa is giving $143 million to Toronto to help out. But it’s specifically to house illegal migrants. With the help of all the subsidies offered, the migrants can afford to move into your home and you can take their place in the homeless shelters.
Maybe, now, those who didn't turn out to vote, will, next time. I didn't vote for Chow, b ecause I knew she was goinh to raise taxes. She said so. I did my part, to vote. Wish more people had.
The residents in your city are deluded from reality. I bet they vote for gay pride events like drag queen story time in huge numbers but give zero effs about who their mayor is as long as she is diverse
TTC subcontractors with red vests are hired through agencies, get paid minimum wage for a truly exhausting job, and are not allowed to resolve conflicts that are the responsibility of TTC supervisors, special constables, or the police. Plus it's mostly kids who have difficulty putting a few words in English into a sentence. The training for this job is very minimal and they too are at risk. All they have is phones for protection, and back in the day these customer service folk would get in a lot of trouble for even looking at their phone to check the time. It's a ridiculous job. It's better to talk to a TTC operator or supervisor if you feel unsafe. And even then it's a joke. (I speak from experience) Call the police and wait, or run for your safety. * Chow is so delusional she's putting even more people's lives at risk on the TTC. Cutting corners isn't gonna solve the problem.
Wonder how long it will take Chow's policies + rising inflation costs, will turn Toronto into Detroit? Does anyone know the stats on businesses + home owners fleeing Toronto. Someone once said, when the tax rate hits 100 percent, where will the gov get any additional money it needs?
The City of Toronto, under Mayor Olivia Chow, has become "The Dead Beat Dad". The Dead Beat Dad that complains and cries that he cannot afford to pay his court ordered alimony and child support payments, yet he's driving a brand new luxury vehicle and manages to take his new girlfriend on a vacation to the Bahamas. Always threatening the people of Toronto that spending restraint will result in service cuts. We want service cuts. We don't want service cuts to police, fire, ambulance, road maintenance, clean water supply, waste removal, nor the dozens of other essential services that the city is charged to supply to us. The Mayor never talks about the thousands of other expenditures that are made with tax payer dollars, that are not essential. Would the city crumble if millions are not spent to rename Dundas Street? Will the city stop moving, if a 3 year moratorium were to be declared on the construction of new bike lanes? A moratorium on the installation of speed bumps and traffic calming planters, just until the budget is balanced and the debt is cleared? Could we possibly survive if the spring planting of flowers in parks and streetscapes were reduced by 50% until the debt is cleared? Don't ever underestimate the the $30 thousand dollar cost of a single speed bump. This budget is a "business as usual budget" at the expense of the struggling tax payer.
Shelley Carrol budget for Don Valley North, ALL unnecessary spending. Improved Pathway in Blue Ridge Park: $90,000 Improved Stairs at Clarinda Park: $100,000 Fitness Equipment at Clarinda Park: $100,000 Bayview Village Street Signs: $70,000 Improved Seating at Rean Park: $15,000 Improved Planters at Bayview Village Entrances: $20,000 Improved Seating at Bayview Village Park: $15,000 Additional Benches at Elkhorn Park: $10,000 Historical Plaque at Thomas Clarke House: $10,000
What would Toronto property tax be if everyone else in Canada stopped paying for transit and everything else Toronto uploads to people who never go there? Pay for your own stuff, tax should go up 200%.
This is a red flag for national interest rates increasing. Do not act on what they say, observe what they are doing. Banks have been saying hold rates and cuts next year, while this mayor is increasing. Seems to be conflicting, which do you think is the lie?
Municipalities in the 905 area code transfer $250,000,000 annually in taxes to the City of Toronto. Toronto has the lowest relative property taxes in Ontario because of this subsidy by other municipalities.
PLEASE. It's all ESSENTIAL. I just witnessed a handful of "Special Constables" trying to act like cops when the traffic lights are out, except everything was functioning. So, they were literally like crossing guards blowing their whistles incessantly. It's disgusting.
I gotta say the traffic special constables along the lakeshore in rush hour help a lot. I'm happy with them, furious about friggen bike lanes and stupid restrictions.
See the end of your comment. The mess that Toronto roads are, are because of City "Planners". Now we can't even be expected to navigate an intersection without the City holding our hand. I guess I should be happy that property taxes are only increasing 10%.@@jimsnow8004
Olivia is going to remind GTA residents of the Bob Rae days, high taxes, and business moving away. I'm glad I moved out of insane assilum, also known as Toronto, and enjoying a small town living.
Toronto property taxes are very low. Why haven't wealthy people left all other cities that are far more expensive? Also, this is just way overblown. Taxes on condos will go up by about $20/month (on average). Cry me a river.
Wealthy people fund the ndp 9% hikes is like a coffee price for them . Wealthy people have liberal contracts and laugh at the line in the bank while die heart socialist idiots collect money to by a tent
@@CorporateShill66. Correct. Toronto’s tax mill rate is artificially low because of tax subsidy transfers from 905 municipalities to the tune of $250,000,000 annually.
It is wonderful that Torontonians can vote in Chow and pay their fair share. They should be proud of themselves. Just think of all the wonderful things she will be doing with this money. And she deserves a raise as well 😉
London Ontario Mayors is going raise out property tax 8.6% and crappy services and still vote NDP/Liberals we have 2200 homeless people going to be more after this. People need to wake up sooner rather than later. Hard times coming for all.
All levels of government are running deficits which limits their ability to provide the services they are responsible for. If this is not a reason to reform government and the delivery of all government services.
Mr Chow is doing a big favor to reduce the initial proposal for 1% getting from 10.5% to 9.5%. Is it a joke? The 9.5% is outrageous. She tries to soft it saying just a $ 1 per day. Beside $1, Everything is going up, like water bill, heat water, gas, utilities bill. Then what about the food price increase? Olivia, you so wrong raising the tax to 9.5%. Hope, people and City Councillors won't support this astronomical rate
Why is it outrageous? She’s a leftist concentrating on leftist issues that cost money. The people voted for this. Toronto’s tax mill rate is still artificially low because 905 municipalities transfer $250,000,000 annually to the City.
Sankofa square doesn’t pay for itself. Pay attention next time there is a mayoral election Toronto. Don’t just vote the name you recognize. This I’ll be a tough lesson over the next few years.
They are not "your taxes". If that were the case, would you continue to tax yourself to the Nth degree? Be clear on the matter! Taxation is an extortion by the government without reprisal until it is bloody.
When are people going to have enough of this nonsense and start talking and calling their mayor and councillors snd complain like hell to them . If they don’t fix the city’s problems, they should resign immediately!👍🏻 Remember, they work for US!👍🏻👍🏻
How does increasing costs to tax payers translate to making something more affordable? Most renters will get the some or all of the increase passed on to them.
To quote the president of Argentina, "The government cannot give you anything because the government does not produce anything." You are duped if you believe it's government funds.
I say too bad for Toronto. You folks there have been paying less than most places in Ontario. I could wish the city I lived in came and cleared the end of my driveway!
The rest of Ontario DOES pay for Toronto! The 905 municipalities pays Toronto over $250,000,000 annually in direct tax transfer subsidies. And of course the TTC is heavily subsidized by the Ontario government. BTW, Toronto tax the lowest tax mill rate in Ontario.
What i don't understand is that Olivia Chow's whole campaign, before her mayoral election, is that she will increase taxes in 2 months times when elected. Toronto literally voted her in with the campaign of tax increase when running for mayor.
This is to discourage rental property investment. It makes perfect sense to allow more homes available for families that can't live in apartment buildings as easily.
Where in the same situation in Montreal except Montreals mayer will spend it on superficial things like hundred of km of bike path the one problem is we have winter 5 m of the year and i don't see me at 53 years of age using them for only half a year
What you are asking for? We are paying for people who needs not work needs not contribute a days of their lives to Canada but they have the vote in their hands They are promising by ndp and liberal just come to Canada all they have to do are vote for them
😂😂..so people thought by electing a RED SOCIALIST the life was going to get cheaper? She does not know how to run a small business, so how would she know how to run a multi-billion dollar corporation?
