Nani was also a rising star winning trophies in surfing competitions and was on her way to becoming a top athlete and then her parents died and she had to quit her dream to get a minimum wage job to pay the bills and care for her already challenging and now traumatized 5 year old sister single handedly All that at age 19!

Nani was only 19 trying to raise her 6 year old sister. I've always had a soft spot for her sacrifice for Lilo
@Zanoab
@Zanoab 2 года назад
Even David saw the sacrifices and tried to help but Nani was misunderstanding the purpose. Nani was completely burnt out and David kept trying to get her to do something fun to relieve stress. Nani saw those invites as dates and pushed him away to focus on Lilo first. When the four hung out on the beach, Nani had fun with everybody and felt relief even though she was going to lose Lilo the next morning. It is possible both Lilo and Nani would've had a healthier relationship and life if Nani tried some stress relief sooner and Lilo hung out with Nani to socialize.

12:12 one thing i like about this scene is that it shows that, despite Nani not being Lilo's actual mom, she knows how to approach her sister in a constructive way, rather than giving in frustration and taking the easy way. Most parents, given Lilo's weird antics, might have resulted to shouting or dismissing her ideas in order to make her stop, but Nani didn't. Rather than trying to make Lilo stop or demand that she acts more like the other kids, she speaks to her in a way she can understand, not trying to change her, but making her point clear to ther sister. In this case, Lilo proposes a lobster as their new pet, to which Nani replies: "we don't have a lobster door. We have a dog door. So, we'll get a dog". She is not saying her idea is wrong or weird, nor is dismissing her. She's acknowledging her input, and directing it to something more akin to what would be considered normal, but in a way that Lilo can understand because it sounds reasonable.
@StrawberryCocoaPowder

Lilo is genuinely one of my favorite child characters of all time. She's actually written realistically imo, she's not too perfect and angelic and she's not too bratty and annoying. She's a sweet kid at heart who can lash out and be bratty, but she's literally 6-7 years old. What kid at that age didn't have their bad moments? Also, in the beginning, I think Stitch said curse words in another language and that's why the council got mad, not the foreign speak itself lol.
@videohistory722

Here's why the sandwich thing is actually so important: Her saying Pudge controls the weather is foreshadowing to later when she tells Stitch about their parents dying in a car accident going for a drive in the rain.
@CervusLavandula
@CervusLavandula 2 года назад
Exactly. It was confirmed she “had” to give him that kind of sandwich everyday, because apparently, the day her parents died, she didn’t feed the fish, so she blames herself for her parents’ death. I think this was all confirmed by the director a while ago, and it’s really sad.

The scene with the spaceship chase through the city was actually redone after the movie was already made. Originally they hijack a plane and chase down Gantu though the city. They changed it because it involved the plane crashing into a building. Right before it was set to be released in theaters, 9/11 happened, and they made the executive decision to delay the release in theaters to reanimate it so now its just a spaceship that LOOKS like a plane.

FYI: the main creative force behind this movie, Chris Sanders, who co-wrote and co-directed it and voiced Stitch, went on to also create the HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON movies. directing the first one and executing producing the others. I always had mad respect for him as a creator. Also, he apparently created Stitch back in the 1980s for a children's book that was never published, and ended up using him in this movie's pitch instead.

He also did the original/early version and drafts of Bolt when it was under the title American Dog set for a 2007 release but never happened because Disney execs including that jerk lasseter was unsatisfied and displeased with Sanders' concept for the film leading him to be kicked out of the project and eventually left disney for good and yeah he did direct one movie under disney afterwards.

6:14 Really sad backstory time, apparently the reason Lilo feeds the fish a sandwich is because she believes he controls the weather (I don't remember if this was based on a Hawaiian myth or not, but I believe it was), and her and Nani's parents were KILLED in a storm, so she feeds the fish a sandwich to basically keep his anger at bay so he doesn't kill anyone else

Her family started feeding Pudge the fish for fun. Then one day, they missed feeding him. That day was the last time Lilo and Nani saw their parents. Their whole family died in a car "accident," when their car swerved on the wet road in a storm. I place "accident" in quotes like that because, even though *I* know that feeding or not feeding Pudge didn't cause the accident, in Lilo's mind, she believes that her parents died because she didn't feed Pudge. She blames herself, like many kids do. If something bad happens, it's always my fault. That's the mantra of many more children than we'd like to admit. If it just *happens,* and I have to live with that, the world is scary, unpredictable, and unsafe. But if this terrible thing is *my* fault, I can do something to keep it from happening again. I can give myself hope, because if it's my fault, I can prevent it.

9:49 I've seen the reanimated scene so many times, that it genuinely threw me off that you're watching the original. For context, Disney decided they didn't want kids copying Lilo climbing into a clothes dryer, so in later re-releases, they reanimated it so that she's hiding behind a pizza box under a table (and while they were doing that, the TV airings just cut the shot entirely).

I dont know if she comes to this conclusion later but im saying it now. Pudge controls the weather, Lilo and Nani's parents died due to bad weather

If it weren't for Pelkey, then Lilo would never get blown up from her house in the movie, and she's alive right now.

Lilo feeds Pudge The Fish because of her parents. she blames her parents death on the rainy weather and she believes Pudge controls the weather. So in an effort to keep anyone else from suffering the same fate, she feeds him and keeps him happy.... Or so she believes.

In the UK edition of this film, the dryer machine was replaced with a small shelf unit with a pizza box covering it.

Can you react to Cimarron: Spirit of the Stallion? It is a wonderful DreamWorks movie although there isn't much talking. Plus, the sceneries, score and animation are stunning

So some facts: Lilo gives pudge a peanut butter sandwich every Thursday, but one Thursdayday she didn't give him one and that night her and nani's parents died in the car accident from the rain. This led her to believe she caused it to happen and believes pudge controls the weather. She keeps photos of all the tourists as something to hold onto and she loves listening to Elvis because its something her parents loved. Also a small hidden detail but all the trophies in Nani's room indicates that she was well on her way to becoming professional but after their parents died she gave it up.

Lilo is very much neurodivergent so she has a hard time with social settings, just "not being weird" isn't really something she can do especially at the age she's at, as someone who is neurodivergent I myself had no friends at her age and often hurt those I loved accidently and didn't understand why when I thought I was behaved, so people do need to be far more understanding to lilo. She isn't getting any form of help to understand so calling her a pain in the ass and that you hate her kinda hurts a LOT of people.

Actually a very important detail of the movie is that Lilo feeds Pudge the fish because “he controls the weather” and the story behind it is because she usually fed Pudge before and I guess the one day she didn’t a rain storm had happen which did result in her parents passing in an car accident very sad

9:49 on Disney + version of Lilo and stitch, they plastered on the dryer machine into a cupboard with a 🍕 📦. Anyway, I still have this hiding 🫣 from the dryer machine on 📀 only. 11:44 there goes his red suit. 27:49 I liked it how stitch taking English when, he’s not a bad alien 👾 koala 🐨 from Lilo and Nani.

4:25 “so he’s everything-proof, and water gets him?” Kind of? The water itself wouldn’t kill him, drowning cuz he’d sink like an anchor would. 7:10 It’s never explicitly stated, but Lilo is basically autistic. She’s socially awkward as all hell, fantastically creative, doesn’t understand acceptable limits on aggression, and is struggling with a new sister-mom situationship after their parents’ crash. Basically, she’s set up to fail, but she doesn’t. 💜 13:40 I’m split on Myrtle. She’s a little asshole, but Lilo doesn’t exactly make it easy to be friends with her either. 15:20 Stitch eating his own booger is a big leap away from eating already-been-chewed cake lmao 28:20 I’ve loved this movie since I was a kid, but since growing up, the Bubbles ex-CIA reveal at the end is one of my favorite twists in the entire film. 😂

Why is Pudge the fish important? Because of this, Lilo has come to the conclusion that Pudge the fish controls the weather-as he is a fish in water and rain comes from the water- and gives him peanut butter sandwiches so no other kid has to go through what she did. She is cooping with the loss of her dead parents. And this is her only way of being able to express her feelings about this. I read somewhere that she blames herself because on the day she didn't feed him, the storm happened and her parents died. So, this is why she thinks Pudge the fish controls the weather and it's a sad tale yes. But she has a lot to deal with being a 7-year-old who's being raised by a teenage sister.

Idk if this comment has been posted yet, but the movie was made before 9/11 happened, but wasn't release until afterwards. The scene with the space ships chasing each other in between the mountains was originally an airplane flying in between buildings, but they changed it before theater release because 9/11 happened. I think you can find the original scene here in RU-vid if you search for it.

I agree with you that genetic experimentation might be incredibly beneficial and maybe even necessary for humanity’s survival and to save the earth. However, strict boundaries must be put in place for what can and can’t be done otherwise we’re gonna end up with people like Jumba creating monstrosities left and right, or worse. So yeah, genetic experiments can be a good thing but only with strict guidelines to keep things ethical.
