I must admit as a fellow Scot and a believer in giving something a bit of tlc and making it go I do enjoy your vids and the proper use of tech terms like stoppy-starty and jiggery-pokery, makes them so much betterer 😉😆

The clip on the dummy bogie is wrong. It's spring loaded and if you pull the pin through enough you'll find a groove that the clip goes into and that creates tension on the pickup strip. If you look at the beginning of the video, you'll see as you removed the power clip the pin springs into the bogie

Yup. Discovered that when it fell apart later on!

I had one of these; I painted the interior & added passengers, adapted spare Lima Class 73 cab interiors & fitted extra pick-up contacts on the trailing bogie. A good model made even better (above solebar level anyway). Had I continued with my model railway I would have looked for another and detailed the underframe...

I love the 156 sprinters and I have made all my lima ones have a Hornby chassis and love watching your videos

Really enjoy your repair videos. I have always adhered to the mantra of make do and mend when today a lot of things are designed to be thrown away and buy new. Well done and well presented. Stay safe.

I had one of these as a child. It was never a good runner even when new. I think your repair got it back to close to new condition. I only had a couple of Lima models - they always seemed noisy and crude (at best) runners. Slow speed control in particular was poor compared to other models I had by other manufacturers.

really good idea to add the extra pickup, I wouldnt have thought of doing that with a lima loco

tbh, I agree, all my westerns and warships are lima, plus i have the 117s + 121s, which all have the lower geared motors (small gears) they pull really well and are actually good runners, plus they can be serviced unlike the new rubbish that is made

Lima locos, despite their obvious cheapness, are actually pretty good, in my experience. This is especially the case for the prices they tend to go for. They're not the best out there, especially in terms of British and continental models, but for how little you tend to pay for them, they aren't bad.

Tip- Guitar plectrums are really handy for dismantling coaches and dmus

Good tip. My fingernails are my plectrums! Except when playing bass then I use a heavy gauge pick which would be too thick.

Lima 156 first introduced 1989 . I love the shade of blue . Generally everybody at the time thought the body was very good but it was only let down by the solid engine mounting . I’ve got the Lima one same as yours and a later Hornby one , which admittedly is a much smoother runner , but bot are good . It’s between paying £50 for a used one or £230 for the definitive Realtrack one !

£50 and the fun of servicing and repair wins every time! I was given new locos as a kid but I've never bought a brand new one. Probably never will! Although I really, really want a J36.
@russellbenton2987
@russellbenton2987 3 года назад
@@oobill the J36 is a very nice loco Bill . I’ve got Maude and the BR one . I think you can maybe get them around £100 .

rear bogie mount is wrong, the spring goes inside the bogie, and the clip is on it's own inside the body and you'll find a handy little slot for it to clip into, if you lift the brass pin.

Hi Bill I'm I've always been a fan of Lima motor bogies are rugged and reliable and the carbon brushes never seem to wear out, so very superior to pancake hornbys,

started using a cocktail stick to replace sprigs seems to work well

A kidney dish is always useful for things like tiny springs. At least you know where they are then. You can get magnetic ones too.

Hi Bill, just come across your channel and enjoyed this one. I run a lot of old Lima locos and this answered a big question that it is the odd pick-up arrangement and not my track laying! Have you done a separate vid of fitting an extra pick-up or is this the best one to look at?
@abbush2921
@abbush2921 3 года назад
Spend 50 quid ! If I order something from E bay UK that my postal charges .There a parts place and his charge for two spring and two carbons brushes was 7.90 CDN and postal charge 56.90 CDN or 32. 70 pounds.

Good video. Where can I buy snowplough that can be added to the end vehicle for these please. I have a Hornby 156 with snowplough and just looks so much better. Thanks.
