Modifications to my old Lima Class 33 to try and enhance its appearance by adding flushglaze windows and painting and weathering the body. Also some running tests to see whether the new traction tyres are working PK.

that was a great job. I am impressed with my Lima locos, I have the Class 33, the GWR railcar I had originally bought for my young son who is now 40! His daughter likes 'grandad's railway, the Class 117? dmu and recently the Deltic. i will use your idea of the hole punched buffer to replace a missing one on my railcar. I am not a skilled modeller but I like your term, 'bodgerer' that is certainly what I am. I will now have a close look at my Class 33!

Thanks for your comments. I love Lima locos and as to adding details, often the simpler the better....and if it looks right....Regards Keith

Very nice👍😊✌️ I've done this work in OO and O, adding etched grills etc. I aimed for "a recognisable model of the prototype, running in a credible background" (to quote the late Jack Ray), you've certainly achieved that✌️😊👍💜

An excellent example of proper "railway modelling" as opposed to "off the shelf", I think the improvements are well worth the effort, as well as making the locomotive more person to you. Thanks for the video, as it encourages others (me included) to have a go!

Thanks Martin. The fun of railway modelling for me is to see if I can improve the off the shelf offerings and as you say, making the models more individual.....the other good reason is simply the cost of new loco offerings from the major manufacturers....I just won't pay the prices they are asking, Regards Keith.

I think it's brilliant, love the 33s, used to work on them, the fibreglass roof ranged from brown to grey.

Thanks Mike....it took me a long time to find some decent photos showing the roof panels.....I should have asked you! By the way - I regularly use your excellent guide on how to service Lima diesels and in a video to be published in the future I recommend it to my viewers, Regards Keith.

This IS the HO model from the 70's isn't it? It certainly looks a lot like the one I just picked up, though mine is in blue.

@@KV12543 Mine does look quite small and has the original loop, continental couplings. I recently picked up a Lima brake van with D couplings but side by side it's smaller than a Hornby one.

With the 33.. the most significant modification is the fitting of scale large round buffers to each end..really sets it off IMO?

I did a similar revamp of a Lima 33 with a bunch of photo-etched parts and flushglaze. I used your method of glazing first and then masking, but the mask ended up bonding to the paint underneath and ruining much of the paintwork at one end. Overall, it's not too bad - but I'd be less inclined to do it that way again.

Sorry to here about your masking fluid pulling off the paint....I guess is is always a bit of a faff whichever way you do it but necessary, Regards Keith
