I love these model railways running Southern Region electric rolling stock, they recall my fond memories as a train spotter, in the late 1950's/early 1960's, in Sussex.

Got all those trains on my “Southern” layout in the “Southern” Island of New Zealand. Great to see all those “3rd railers” in action!

What an amazing layout, well done sir. Your layout is so life like and your attention to detail is just amazing. I think the Southern Electrics are great. Thank you for showing us your layout. 👍🚂

Superb. Thank you. The third rail yet to be installed?

2-BILs had the most sumptuous seat cushions ever, whatever the class. Unit suspension could be a bit bouncy through Barnes Junction but it was all part of the experience. They made a wonderful growl and rattle setting off, too, unmistakable.

Wow what a wonderful session. Big fan of Southern Electric ⚡ ex driver. Your class 73s look fantastic 🎉 they were very capable locomotives and a joy to drive, still going even now. Ignore any silly comments, top locos

Very nice, I grew up with Southern Electric and EMUs have always been my favourite trains. How good yours look when filmed at low level, brings them to life.

I must tip my hat to the modellers on this one! There must be an awful lot of scratch-building and kit-bashing here. I've always thought of attempting an SR layout in N, with third rail units, but I'll probably never get around to it.

Perhaps a train from London Bridge or Victoria heading through Surry, from East Croydon to Tantenham Corner? I remember this stock in the late Sixties, when we changed trains at East Croydon, for a semi-fast train down to Horley, to see grandparents.

Just come across this video - wonderful! 👍 So much activity - so many units. 😎 In order to make up a shortfall in locomotive-hauled coaching sets some 4TC units were initially hauled with non-push-pull Cromptons. 🌞 There used to be a regular mail working with an MLV and 2 HAP from Redhill to London Bridge; the 2 HAP was there to provide sufficient brake force. ⚡ For readers who are not aware…. 😉 Units with stencil headcodes (such as the 2 BIL and 2 HAL) never carried ‘double-digit’ route numbers as they only had one of each number in their stencil boxes! The inverted black triangle on two and three car units denoted there was ‘No brake van at the other end of the unit’!

The Class 73 is a stinky box on wheels, not an EMU car. Then again, I'll let that and the other box on wheels go on their way. Nice EMUs, I kinda like them. A naughty Southern Tank Engine made a brief appearance too. Did you run the tank engine to put a smile on my face, by any chance?

The first six 1962-built 73s (type JA) were essential a diesel locomotive that could 'pretend' it was an electric locomotive. Subsequent 1965-builds (type JB) were an electric locomotive that could 'pretend' it was a diesel locomotive. Hence the incompatibilities between the JA and JB and between the JA and EP multiple units.
