Hi David. Just catching up with your videos. "Strath's Shorts"? Was dreading I was about to watch something about men's underpants! So, relieved to see this one is about refinements on use of the can motor collar. When buying one of yours, I mentioned that I was building one to my own design and mark 1 is hot from the printer. Lessons learned for me: 1. The fit of collar to motor is key. Too tight a fit can be remedied by lightly grinding away some plastic from the collar. A loose fit can be dealt with by your options. 2. The economics suggest that your option 1 is the better. If one considers the can motor as cheap enough to be disposable, so then is the collar. And both are recyclable! For my conversions, I'll marry each motor to a best-fit collar as, in my case, I can produce the collar cheaply. Anyway, glad to see your back - no, glad to see you're back! Looking forward to your next pair of Strath's Shorts! Andrew
Hi Andrew. Glad to hear your own version has been born. Like I mentioned in my email, there are a few pitfalls, and it seems you've discovered one of them! lol. I spent months testing mine and it's amazing how many wee things that you didn't initially think about crop up. I have actually just redesigned my adaptor as it happens, with a new video out this evening. If you have your own 3D printer, it's definitely worth making your own, but if you don't have one, then buying one for the purpose of making an adaptor for a couple of Lima locos becomes very expensive indeed!
