As I can see you have both Sandisk and Samsung T7 shield ssds that Panasonic recommends, I want a real world opinion on disconnections. After some research, close to almost buy both of them, I found out on some reviews about the disconnects. After a little bit more research I found out that actually lots of people talk about these two and how they disconnect while transfering files etc, as a result they lose files or they get corrupt. I don't undestand why these products, brand new from top brands having issues like that. Did you have any disconnections or losing data/files while using them on the camera while recording, or/and when you were transfering files to a pc? I use my camera and I transfer data over my internal ssd on my pc. This is how use these data, no laptops etc, camera and a desktop Windows 10 pc. Totally confused! Thanks dude! PS: It's a lot of money to try to guess and to be lucky which ones to get in order not to disconnect and lose client files!! Just take off the market these products if they are unreliable, right?
@stevelitton
@stevelitton 11 месяцев назад
It seemed to mainly affect the T7 series of drives, I never had that issue but admittedly I don't shoot in ProRes all that often and it most likely would have been an issue for that. Panasonic/Samsung recommend updating the drive to avoid any issues 👉 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MYSBvpycwPQ.html Most newer drives should already have that firmware though. I am also using a Mac, so I don't know if the issues are PC-specific. One thing I always will do is to format the drive in the camera as that prevents a lot of read/write issues. It's a horrible market because a lot of the big brand drives all seem to be having issues and the off-brand drives tend to be really unreliable, so spending more doesn't necessarily mean better quality and reliability anymore 😐

@@stevelitton Yeah that's a shame! I'll go with T7 shield then and update them as well if needed. I don't think I can do anything than the research I guess. It will be all in pure luck! :P

I think that an external drive is needed only for those who shoot in the prores. If you do not shoot in the prores, there is no point in it. Then if a backup recording is added to the disk, then at least there will be some sense in this. Do you shoot in prores?
@stevelitton
@stevelitton 2 года назад
I think it also makes sense if you shoot in All-Intra in 4K above. I shoot in ProRes occasionally but I do shoot in All-Intra quite a lot. So I will personally be making use of it. I do hope they add backup recording but nevertheless it's still a useful feature.
@lnuponom2678
@lnuponom2678 2 года назад
@@stevelitton I have a 250 GB card, All-Intra takes up a lot of space, but 250 GB is enough for a few shoots. And I personally don’t see the difference between a bitrate of 150 mb s and 400 mb/s. As for 240fps, All-Intra is needed there, but video in this HD format takes up very little space. You see the difference between 150 mb/s and 400 mb/s?
@stevelitton
@stevelitton 2 года назад
@@lnuponom2678 Sadly I do the kind of work a lot where clients retrospectively say 'did you take some photos too?' when that was never discussed beforehand 🙂 So when I think that might happen I shoot 4K All-Intra and it gives me a little more flexibility pulling stills from the video. I have 3 128gb CF Express cards but it saves me changing cards out and makes the editing workflow easier.
@lnuponom2678
@lnuponom2678 2 года назад
@@stevelitton Can you see the difference in the photo screen from the video shot at 150 mb/sec and 400 mb/sec? 8 In my opinion, the screenshots from the video, even from All-Intra, do not look professional, they have a 4k format, and there are few megapixels. Then if you shoot at 5.7K. But in any case, the photo is made differently than the video, there is a different quality and DOF. At the moment, using an external drive is more of an inconvenience than some kind of plus, if you don’t shoot in the prores, of course. To switch to 120 and 240 fps, you need to climb into the menu and change the output method. The wire sticks out, the external disk is on the camera, no mobility. Yes, a 128 GB card may not be very convenient, so I immediately bought a 256 GB one for $130.
@stevelitton
@stevelitton 2 года назад
@@lnuponom2678 @LNU Ponom Yes the stills from All-Intra are better in my opinion. I mean no they aren't photos, for photos I would usually use a flash and shoot in Raw but in a pinch they are fine for social etc. Yes 5.7k and 5.8k are good for grabbing stills at a bigger size. The frame rate limitations are disappointing, I'm with you there. In terms of practically having it mounted to the camera it doesn't bother me as almost always have an external monitor attached anyway. But if I wanted to go super lightweight I would just shoot what I could internally. At the end of the day, it's just a welcome additional feature, you don't have to use it.

Steve, forgive the slightly unrelated comment, but to your knowledge, can the GH6 record through the microphone jack and the onboard mic at the same time? Curious if I can use stereo wireless lapels and the onboard mic for four channel audio. Thanks!
@stevelitton
@stevelitton 2 года назад
No worries, unfortunately you can't do that. If you want 4 channel audio you will need the XLR1 adapter that fits on to the camera's hotshoe - amzn.to/3KaoYqu Alternatively you could record two separate channels with something like the Rode Wireless Go II - amzn.to/3C3SiNd I use mine all the time with two Rode Lavalier GO mics attached, its a really good set of mics.
@CinematicCut
@CinematicCut 11 месяцев назад
So basically to record 4k 120fps on gh6, you need to have cards as well to record it internally, otherwise it won't record on ssd? That's kind of annoying, because you have to switch between recording on ssd and cards all the time if you decide to grab a shot there, a slowmo here, again normal speeds etc.. right?
@stevelitton
@stevelitton 11 месяцев назад
It's a bit complicated. Basically you can record everything internally on a CF Express Type B card. But recording to SSD is limited to 60fps and under, so no 4K 120. But in firmware version 2.3 you can record above 60fps to SSD but you need to use a V Mount battery. I made a video about it here that explains it in a bit more detail - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gzc2zlyD6PU.htmlsi=fxZ9jZp8XPtOv4Sd

@@stevelitton Why everywhere on these cameras we have to compromise something over something else? haha! I got it now.. so probably to avoid having a v mount battery in the back, I would buy an ssd for everything else and a kind of small cf express card for when I need those more than 60 frames I could switch and write on the card. That could work I believe as well. And less bulky!
@stevelitton
@stevelitton 11 месяцев назад
I know, its always the way. Yeah if you get yourself a decent CF Express card you can just do it all in camera. But SSD is good for longer shoots where you don't need the higher frames rates all the time.

@@gilgoncalves2304 That's correct, SSD recording is capped to 60fps unfortunately. I'm hopeful that will change in a firmware update 🤞 Currently, the only way you can record 120fps externally is on something like the Atomos Ninja V+.
