Lin-Manuel does not come from a "poor" background. His parents are highly-educated and they owned their own house in Northern Manhattan, which was quite rare. He went to a selective public school for gifted children from the age of five through high school, before graduating from Wesleyan University, a well-regarded liberal arts college. He NEVER lived in the slums.
Lin has had an amazing year in 2021. He directed Tick Tick Boom, starred in Vivo, worked on the music for In The Heights and Encanto! Great insight on his career!
What's your favourite work from Lin Manuel Miranda? In terms of Broadway I do prefer In The Heights, and in terms of Moana vs Vivo I think the Vivo soundtrack is super catchy, and I especially like One More Song, but the clear winner for me is the Moana soundtrack!
In The Heights is my favorite work of Lin-Manuel Miranda, both the original Broadway show and the movie adaptation. As a person of Puerto Rican descent (on my mom’s side) myself, I emotionally connected and related with many of the characters and their love for one another and for their community, with some more of this Latin representation carrying a bit more into Vivo and the upcoming Encanto. While I do enjoy Hamilton and like a lot of the writing, hip hop and rap are genres that aren’t my favorite or my go to style of music. I saw Tick Tick Boom a couple a days ago in theaters and not only is it my favorite movie of this year, but it makes me excited to see what other musical movies Lin will direct next.
That's great, yeah good to hear. I did like that some of the representation was carried over to Vivo too and yeah I did love In The Heights. Really happy that people are liking Tick Tick Boom, really looking forward to seeing it!
i'm a huge disney fan so i agree. moana songs are absolutely beautiful. i also love the song "satisfied" from hamilton, although i've actually never seen the full movie!!
