Thank you. I always missed Lincoln's speech when they removed it and put in a recording of the current President. You are absolutely right. It's more relevant today than it was in 1971. The real danger comes from within when Americans no longer value rights like freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of the press.
5 years after the posting of this video, the relevance is even more important in 2023. I have an LP that I got at Disney World in the early 80s. This speech is one of the tracks on it. After the speech is concluded it begins a chorus of The Battle Hymn of the Republic. I still play it from time to time. And every time, it stirs my soul and causes me to shed a few tears of patriotism.
I think these animatrons were first seen at the New York Worlds Fair around 1961. Because I've seen them and have never been to WDW. Still remember the chills I got, at eleven years old, when Lincoln stood up!
Well you only saw Lincoln at the 1964 worlds fair. At the time Disney thought of the hall of presidents, but they didn’t have enough time. They created the molds for the heads but no animatronics. But since Walt Disney love Lincoln so much and even dressed like him when Walt was a kid, they did Lincoln instead in 1964. But Lincoln animatronic had so many problems during the making of the Abe Lincoln animatronic. When they made the prototype of the figure, he was so heavy that the imaginers had to help him stand up. They brung Walt to the secret animatronic room and he saw this pathetic animatronic Lincoln that can barely stand up. Walt was so irritated. Walt told the imagineers and also bob gurr to redesign the figure. Walt wanted less weight, with more movement in the face to give it more life like. So move on to the world fair, when they test out Abe, He stood up and all of a sudden he went crazy. His arms was going all over the place and he actually pick up the chair and smashed it to the floor. It took them 3 weeks to figure out what was the problem. The problem was in the world fair they had this huge light attraction. And when it lit up, it made Lincoln go crazy. But they fix the problem, and he was working right
@crazyminecraftgamer1306 Hi. Was this an actual speech of Lincoln's? I'd love to use it for an upcoming patriotic event without having to transcribe the video here.
