This is THE BEST watercolor video on RU-vid. The paint recommendations for a split palette are perfect.

So I thought it' a nice day to check out the old videos on my favorite channels... I don't know why, but those basics videos, where someone explains a medium, are always super interesting to me. And this is actually the best watercolor basics video I've seen, I wish this would have been around for me to watch when I started painting, this would have probably spared me a lot of headaches and disappointments. And I must say that those glasses suit you very well.

Lindsay I’ve been watching your tutorials for several months and enjoy them all. Just found this one today and really loved how useful it is. Thank you.

The gradient painting tips in the last part of this video are pure gold. I've watched so many tutorials and haven't seen tips of that quality.

I can't tell you how many classes I've taken in an effort to learn how to watercolor. Yet I've actually come away with little information (and feeling bad about how little talent I seem to have). Thank you for this video. I'm going to subscribe because the knowledge you impart is worth so much. I've wasted a lot of time and treasure it seems. I come away from your videos being able to actually create something. Plus feel good about it all!

"If you dip it in your coffee your not going to drop dead from cadmium Poisoning!" OMG I lost it when you said that, You don't know how many times I've done that and had to get a new cup. LMBO I love your videos. Thank you

You do better teaching upside down than most do right side up, Lindsay, and that goes for the many subjects you tackle. Thanks. Now I'm waiting for your brain surgery tut.

I've been watching your videos over the past few days and they make me want to paint again. I always loved watercolors but my pictures never turned out too well but I know now to just have fun and give it a go again. Thanks for all your hard work on youtube!

so glad I discovered your videos. I have been wanting to learn watercolor for a couple of years now. I have painted with acrylics before. so I took a class last Saturday. I was almost in tears by the time I left. it was sooo hard! it's almost a total opposite of what I knew before. but now I think I can learn after watching you. thanks so much!

Hullo Lindsay! I love watching your older videos, you are a tremendous artist and instructor! You have a lovely manner and you impart so much information about this sometimes confusing medium. I love that you have one of your original brushes! I remember when my Gran was teaching me to paint and she used a number 12 Kolinsky brush for most if not all of her paintings! I did get a gift from her of some of the brushes she used for many years before she passed away. I believe that this has become my number one video to recommend to beginners! You have created a wonderful beginners video and your still creating beginner friendly videos! I am going to mirror another viewer comment and mention that you look lovely with your choice of glasses! I know that has absolutely nothing to do with your expertise in painting, but sometimes ladies enjoy a compliment now and then. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us. Oh as a native Californian (born in SanFrancisco) I want to say you are going to have to swallow tubes of paint to contaminate yourself with Cobalt or Cadmium. Swallowing a sip from your paint cup will not send you to the grave! I know that the warning labels are for our protection and they are needed by some people, but I believe if you use common sense you should be just fine. Please take care and thanks for leaving us this precious video available for everyone to see and learn from.

Great tutorial Lindsay! I've always been way too intimated to try painting but this helps so much that I may actually give it a shot, thank you!

Lindsay, this video came up in the list after watching you paint the lovely silk flowers today (23 Aug 2019). I have watched it before ages ago and learned a lot but even more having watched and listened to you since 2014! Good to know you were just as great then as now : )

There were a lot of good tips from this video. It's always good to start at the beginning to see how an artist sets up their palette or what brushes they use. Thank youl.
