In today's video I compare the stock pickups from the 2022 JV telecaster with a set of Lindy Fralin Blues Specials, and give my overall thoughts on the instrument after getting to know it a little bit better. Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Thank you so much man! It sounds amazing. I may still replace the bridge pick up with something hotter... But I am impressed by how it sounds with the factory pups. I was expecting way worse. It's an amazing guitar. Can't wait to put my hands on mine. Thank you once again for this video!

Jim! I got a set of these Lindy Fralin Blues Specials for my MIJ tele on your recommendation and oh man, I don’t think there’s anything that sounds better - head and shoulders above every other thing I’ve heard. They are terrific!!

I dropped those pups into a Squier CV50 a few months ago and now 20+ other guitars hate it as they don't get the same playing time. LOVE those Fralins.... I then picked up a Pro II Tele to see if the CV50 with Fralins was the real deal....they ARE! Love the Pro II ...but still prefer the tone of CV50 with Fralins.

echoing what others said here - the Fralins had more depth but also, especially when the OD was involved - far more note definition for me too (especially the first neck pickup one shocked me how much that came through on RU-vid!) - also great work with the punk rock in the demo!!!

The fact that even on the youtube site that its so clearly audibly different says it all considering how much they compress everything. In the room the difference made me genuinely laugh 🤣

@@AudiomoMusic yeah I can imagine the in room experience was ridiculous considering how we even get to hear it on this platform! A really cool upgrade too especially to give you a different tele option from the custom shop - lovely stuff!

I have to admit that I couldn’t really tell a difference, but I appreciate how honest you are about the whole thing. It’s really hard to justify buying new unless you get a smoking deal

It was hard to say what I really felt because I do believe this is a good guitar, but I just have to factor in total costs for people because I don't feel enough people really go over the whole package. It's the same thing I've said about the PRS S2 line, great guitars but just know the electronics are eventually going to be things that most will want to replace... it's unfortunate guitars over 1k and some that are 2k have very, very mediocre import pickups in them.

@@AudiomoMusic I was lucky enough to buy two S2s a couple of years ago for $900 each before prices got absurd. They’re the best guitars I’ve ever owned so I don’t have better pickups to compare them to - ignorance is bliss!

As you say, it's all personal preference... I tried the same JV model against a used American Pro II Tele (which was about the same price as the JV) and I left with the JV. It just had so much more character than the American Tele and I way preferred the neck.

I actually agree with your taste on this vs the am pro ii, you can buy this AND the fralins and have an much better guitar for less. The neck is superb which is par for the course for Fender Japan and electronics are the easiest thing to change so I didnt mind. I love the work they do.

I have only played one Fender Japan, it was offset tele and the overall playability smoked any MIM i ever touched! Btw if you have not tried offset teles you should give one a try!

Agreed. The hybrid 1 is much better. Im not fond with the JV sounds maybe not my sound preferences sound. Nonetheless, the MIJ workmanship as always top notch. I wanted to try the 60's MIJ Fender Custom Telecaster though.

Hi Jim! It’s Marco. You remember me? „JusToto“ Tribute-Band. Funny to see you again with a guitar I‘ve ordered a few days ago. I hope I can go with the stock pickups. I think they are not that bad. Looking forward to get my Tele. It’s a B-Stock with maybe some little scratches or so. But that also makes it easier and you don't have to be so careful about it.

Hey Marco it's great to see you again! I think you made a great choice this is an excellent guitar with exceptional build quality. They are definitely not bad pickups per say I am just so used to the CS it's something that really stood out to me by comparison. are you guys playing live again?

It took me many years to understand teles, the majority of my playing life I never got along with them at all. just takes the right one!

I was about to buy one of these and then my local guitar shop has a B stock limited edition American made Cabronita tele in Aztec gold and it was the same price. I picked that one up because I loved how the neck felt ( it’s quite slim) and the TV Jones pickups gave it a unique tone. After hearing you play your JV, I’m glad I didn’t get one as I feel the stock pickups don’t sound all that great and I don’t really like the idea of having to swap out electronics on a $1700 ( Canadian) guitar.

Dude I had the blue version of that Cabronita! The pickups in those were amazing! For the JV i think my recommendation is just to buy a used Fender Hybrid one, USA electronics and american vintage 58 pickups, all for less than a JV new. Cant beat that at the moment. Nice pull on the cabronita though, very unique guitar/

Have u ever tried a Balaguer guitar? In particular the Thicket...its about 950...awesome specs...har to find reviews on them....its a tele style guitar...

I almost bought a purple espada about 3 months ago when it was on sale at a shop in my old home across the country, but for one reason or another I just did not pull the trigger on it. I’ve never played one in person and I would love to try one at some point.

The Fralins have a depth lacking in the stock pickups. The Fralin neck pickup in particular has quite a bit more sparkle. Love my MIJ Hybrid 50s Tele and its MIA pickups. This vid reassures me that I didn't make the wrong decision in snapping up one of those before they were phased out in favour of the Hybrid IIs.

You know how I feel about the Hybrid 1, they are simply the vest overall value Fender has made in the last 10 years or so. Fantastic guitars.

@audiomo Sojust bought NOS 50s tele hybrid in arctic white with amvin 58 pickups.. I am thinking of replacing the stock pickups with lollars or cs Texas special or suhr one.. Do you think it is worth it?

I wouldn’t get rid of those, those are some of the best production pickups fender have ever made. I did a test of those compared to the actual handwound fender custom shop 58s and it was really close. Id try messing with pickup heights and amp settings, they are imo great pickups 👍🏽

The Fralins are really good sounding, but they pale in comparison to the Jim Wagner pickups. The Wagner's smoke the Fralins.

Is the fretboard nicely rolled? Kind of a 57 ish chunky soft V? I really didn’t notice a HUGE difference in tone from stock, Frailins had more pick attack and not as flat as stock but I thought they both sounded good.. So I pulled the trigger for 1k open box. I love my Gretsch’s so I know Japan makes some flawless spectacular builds. I hope this one lives up to the Gretsch quality craftsmanship.

Well the Gretsches are made in a different factory - Terada and these Fenders are made at Fujigen but both make fantastic guitars. The neck is indeed close to a late 50's soft V, full at the first fret without being a baseball bat 52 style neck and the edges are indeed rolled pretty nicely but not over the top like on a lot of modern guitars these days - hope you love it

Like I said I just wish they would have more MIJ guitars over in the US! All the cool models and yes all the cool custom colors! They have some good deals on reverb for the MIJ guitars but they are over in Japan, is it ok to buy those guitar and they them shipped here, is it a hassle, what is your opinion on that?

Kinko Music in Kyoto sell on Reverb and are 100% legit, they get in tons of good inventory and are the real deal.

@@AudiomoMusic I’m with you, Sherwood green jaguar or possibly a jazzmaster. But I’ve never owned a jaguar before and I’m a huge Johnny marr fan and love the tones he gets from his. They have a few on there for around 1200$. So I’m going to start saving for my next one!

hard to differentiate with overdrive...but clean...very noticeable to me. I have these same Fralins and can't say enough about them...the hype is real. Also got a set of Lollar Special T yesterday...dropped them into a Squier CV50's Tele...they too deliver wonder tonality...especially over stock CV50.
