2203 sounded so good to my ears when I updated firmware and selected it. Miles better than the 2204 and even the placater in my book. Thanks for still posting some line 6 treats for us !
It's the trade mark Kerrang as Leon said that the 2204 and other things in helix were missing until now. It's been over a decade since I had a real 2203 but this is bringing back memories! And much better for my hearing!
That is commitment, to release updates to now quite old Helix system. But still making it better. What ever, when ever they are releasing next, they have really robust foundation to do so.
Everyone raving about this update and that's understandable. But why the hell did it take them 8 years and "all that work convincing them to do this" to get a legit 800 model?? That's crazy.
Because they are stubborn and proud and it took a guy named James Freeman to grill them endlessly about how shit their Marshall models were and shame them in public forums for them to give up and do it. Google it it's pretty funny!
Either the reference amp they owned was busted or they didn't model it properly. Literally took a dude on their forums to hound them about it and post multiple comparison clips to get it done.
I like using the feedbacker as an 'always on' when I'm doing ambient soundscape. I run a drone in front [poly sustain] and then it feeds the feedbacker. Put some big delay and verb behind it- instant Joshua Tree vibes.
Updated yesterday, and there is a lot of fun packed into it! Really enjoying the new Amps and Effects. Haven't had a chance to try the new Cabs yet. I need to do more testing, but all my Presets sounded about 3-8% louder than before. I run all my Presets with the volume set at noon on my HX Stomp, and had to turn it down to about 11 o'clock. Also, the Presets sounded bassier, smoother, and fuller - More Fractalish. 👍 Will have to see if I think the same today. Thanks.
I'm actually excited for the feedbacker. Like the Digitech Freqout before it, this is a useful little tool to give some real feel when playing in a silent stage situation. As for the rest, I've been quite happy with amps and fx that have been added in past updates to really care for the new stuff; still it's quite impressive how the keep updating and tweaking these units after almost a decade.
Leon is an amazing person. I received a beautiful present from him for the approaching Christmas. We all watch these videos with enthusiasm. I don't know anyone who can produce such beautiful sounds on practically any guitar hardware. A person with a big heart and a huge perspective. Best guitar youtuber for me. Keep making these perfect and fun videos which are very inspiring for all guitarists. I like how you experience it when you play. You can see that it is purely from the heart. I also like the guitar so much and even though I'm not such a top player, it's also my passion. I wish everyone here a wonderful Christmas and lots of music.
That sounds great, and a helix is half the price of an FM9 and it comes with an EXPRESSSSION PEDAL! If Line 6 could nail a few other amps like Mesa's, Diezel, ENGL etc, that would be awesome.
The 2203 is rapidly becoming my favourite model in the helix. Surprisingly versatile. Wasn't a fan of the previous one. I used to go for the jtm45 model.
I always say This there is Fractal & Helix, then there are all the others 🤘 Also Nice shoutout to James Freeman, in which this Update is unofficially called lol
I hate the lag when switching patches and been struggling for years to get a Marshall patch to do a good sounding clean to dirty to high gain all in one patch due to the 3 snapshot limit of the HX Stomp. I had to settle for switching patches and a Friedman BE model. The BE model sounded the best but it lacked some girth and that glassiness. After the update, I tried the 2203 with the Prize Drive and with minimal tweaking, got a good sounding Marshall patch! This was a nice and much needed update!
Yeah, that's a massive difference. Can't say I noticed how much more... toothless the original version was. The characteristic bright bite is crystal clear now.
I finally gave in to John Cordy's relentless HX Stomp videos. Got one this year. It is awesome. But didn't think the JCM800 was good enough. Then this came out. Thrilled. Been A/B-ing with 2203 NAM's and its pretty good!
@@Bluesplayer789 I'm amazed that I bought a product so late and have been so lucky with updates! I think it's complete now! 2203 was last piece of puzzle for me
@@vaughanmacegan4012 yeah if it's just DSP and updates don't see why they can't update all the fender twin, deluxe, etc to sound better from a new model. Also lol at fractal doing a new 2203.
Couldn't agree more about the JCM800. Never been truly happy with the Marshall models, but the new one feels just right. Still have a lot of exploration to do, but so far this is a stellar upgrade. And I appreciate the attention to Helix-- Thx.
😂 I'm easily triggered, I saw JCM800 in the thumbnail! 😁And started grinning like a Cheshire cat....love when you shred that amp. I'm new to line 6...but I do know my pod go is still surprising me after a year of owning it.🙏🤘🎸
That new JCM800 model crushed it. Apparently the original amp model was accurate, just to the one they had which was missing a bright cap. Whatever. But that and the new dynamic cabs have been worth the price of admission alone. I have a bunch of IRs, but being able to get a 4x12 V30 or Greenback30 now with sm57 on center, 1-1.5 back, and either another 57,421, or 121 on the edge, 1-4 back, with a 45 degree option? ::chef's kiss::
The Catalyst amps are surprisingly awesome. Line 6 has been somewhat killing it with their originals of late. The Voltage and Oblivion are great. I also love the Ventoux from previous updates.
@@LeonTodd Yep. I've had enough Plexi and Fender DR models to last a lifetime. It's nice to finally have a decent JCM though. I paid $99 on Helix Native about 5 years ago and it's still giving me enormous value.
You switched to an Axe FX III MkII Turbo @2:04 didn't you - and it sounded glorious! All it needed was the feedbacker and it would've been absofuckingtotalutely brilliant.
I had a classic 2203 combo, it didn't deliver the goods. Thinking was due to it being a. Open back 2x12 combo. Plus you had to wind up to insanedecibels to really make it breathe.
@@wonderz_808 I'm probably the wrong guy to be asking I still use a helix live, but with an amplifier. No modeling. I'm just using the FM3 at home right now For practicing and recording through my monitors. That sounds pretty good. In my personal opinion I think they need to revamp the whole fractal system. Helix is way ahead as far as ease of use. and snapshots and comes with a Built-in pedal. imo. i'm also in my 60's but still gigging weekly.
There is PV Vitriol amp model (from the Peavey Invective, which is basically an upgraded amp from the 5150 (PV Panama)). I think that it's what you are looking for.
@@lebebop1682 yeah I love the vitriol. Signature model of misha mansoor (invective) but I also like if they can add some evh amps and ofcourse the boogie mark C++. Oh well, i’m happy with the helix
The bright cap is a blessing and a curse on 800’s. Guess that’s why they left it out (on previous models). I like it for gain but wish you could switch it off on the low gain input for clean sounds. But overall pretty sweet.
Try running it with the Line 6 Doom in parallel. It’s an 800 with a HiWatt 6550 power section. Working on a patch now with ribbon mics and Greenback/v30 dual cabs.
Nice video as always. The riff you often play (I think in this video at about 12:25) is very cool. What is that from? I haven't gotten past the ODR-1 model yet, but that is an awesome addition. Now if I could just get my Crowther Hotcake I'd be satisfied.
Hi Leon! Would you mind letting me know what song you're playing at 10:17? I can't remember the name of it for the life of me and it's bothering me to no end 😂
I just downloaded it last night, l’m going to check it out today. I’m also going to look up how to connect my Vox toneLab to The helix using sends and returns. If you have some suggestions For that. Thanks
Weird, I tried the new JCM amp models in my HX and they still sound like s**t compared to my FM3. I'll look at Atomic again for budget Marshall modelling.
I have to admit that the feedbacker sounds way cooler than its description. Definitely gonna check that out when I update. Also - how did you set up the EQ block before the Marshall block? Just plain curious.
Hi Leon, is it possible to buy your My HX Stomp Preset Pack separately so that I don't have to subscribe for months? I love your Grease factory patch with IR LT TV mix7. The Delay setting is famous. We tried with a friend in his studio the Grease factory patch on hx stomp through a quality sound box and good monitors and when we started the backtrack and played on Gibson custom I almost peed my pants. It sounded amazing. For me you are the best youtuber on the web. I don't want to commit for months. I just need your presets. I will be glad if you at least answer me. Hi Max Czech Republic.
These companies are just tone matching Fractal now... If it sounds different than the Fractal, people complain, so now the smart companies are just using EQ match to make their old models sound like the competition. Not sure this is a good thing.
