Funny was just getting this first video to share to our Worship pastor and give him some advice on the Helix. I love and laughed out loud at the early quote "I don't know how much more I have to offer than what has been put out..." LOL. You still have the best breakdown and instructions on the helix I have yet to see. Keep up the amazing job Jason. Peace.

Hello Jason :) I just received my new Helix yesterday and had about 10 minutes of time on it before bedtime as I was exhausted from work. Today is Friday and after-work now so, I found your Helix series here and I thank you profusely as you confirm my thoughts about why I purchased this Helix even after owning the Line 6 M13 & M5, POD HD500 &500X, Boss ME-80, TC Nova System Std & L.E., Digitech RP-300 (new) & RP-1000, and my first plunge in '92 - the ART SGX Express with X-22 floorboard. I bought the ART-SGX/X22 ('92) & RP-300 ('04) new and 27 yrs later, the Helix. All of the rest were used and needed repair or were in good to mint condition. You've done an awesome job of inspiring me, the Helix-layman, to go beyond the factory presets to tune in a tone that I'll love - the one you created here sounds awesome to me so, I'll create a Sadites Plexi as I love that tone! Custard Pie is one of my favorite Zep tunes and I loved your sneaks-ins of that in there a few times :) Cheers, DG

Well, what else to say that hasn't been said here... maybe one thing: I have the new Catalyst Line 6, year 2022!! I don't have Helix, but after your channel I start to get the sound I had in mind! Mainly because the amp has the "same" technology and some effects as the Helix. But not only that, because the way you think "loud" allows me to understand the way...which is very useful to really understand things for others tones I will create. thanks men!! Thanks for sharing! You are gold to guitar world! Hugs from Portugal!

I agree that having a real life knowledge of how gear sounds and works together will make the Helix a joy to work with. I generally avoid the amp types I don't know from experience, because the sound starts in my head, and I then make it happen through the signal chain. It's wonderful that you can sit down, imagine a sound with all parts involved, then create the patch, and then play it, and enjoy the fidelity ;-)

Jason Sadites Quick question though, a big thing people say is to create your patches at “live volume.” I know this was a demo patch you threw together for the video, but do you ever have a problem using your patches created this way live?
@JasonSadites
@JasonSadites 6 лет назад
+Rob Groden I have never really had the problem of patches not translating live to be honest. I think a lot of people dial in overly bright tones and then when they get to stage volume it sounds very harsh. I tend to dial in tones that are darker or warmer so when cranked up they aren't over piercing. If they are too dark I can always go into global eq and brighten them to taste. Hope that helps :-)

I have just started watching your videos. I have had the Helix rack for maybe a year now, and short of time and not knowing what I was doing I have been recording with presets. Which are fine, of course, but probably not making the most of what the unit can do for each of us personally. So thank you very much for taking the time to make all these videos and explain what all the different stuff does. It is really opening up my eyes to the capabilities of this thing! Thank you so much and glad you liked the videos. I usually avoid trying to 'match' the tone of any particular artist simply since there are so many variables involved in that finished tone. Firstly Jason.. Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to put this video together. I've literally had my Helix for 1 week now and have struggled to understand some of the functions and interaction between the settings. This has helped a lot. I'd like your input if I could please. I'm nowhere near professional, play the guitar for fun and stress relief.. I play most in my study.. just a little smaller than your room in this video.. I'm currently using a blackstar tube amp. HT-5.. it's loud enough for what I need .. It's cranked to about 7 on the amp and about 25/30% on the helix. Use both a Telecaster standard and a Gibson SG. I'd like to an active / powered PA speaker.. Would you say this is a good move/ If so, any recommendations please? Music played - Rock and stuff like that. My chemical romance, Quo (I have to admit it as I have two videos on my user profile..lol), Green day etc. Again. Thanks for the work.. I've subscribed.. Roy

That's great! It sure is a deep unit with so much potential. I have a lot of videos up all about how to dial in different parameters and fx in the Helix if you are interested! Good luck dialing in the tone the way you like it :-)

Sounds unbelievably incredible. What monitors are you using to listen back ? Or are you listening back on a cab ?

I've been looking to upgrade my GSP 2101 with a modeler. Gave up on tube amp since my Carvin tube amp crapped out after 2 years. Leaning towards either a Helix or a Axe FX unit. I have a Variax so I'm hoping the Helix can be programmed with a great tone like the tones I hear Leon Todd gets. Thank you for dialing stuff in on the Helix. Makes my choice much harder now.

I would like a lot one step behind, how replicate a tone (excuse my english) Again thank you very much for your time, veeeeery useful!
@JasonSadites
@JasonSadites 6 лет назад
I don't often try to replicate exact tones. The reason is I feel it is next to impossible to do so, since there are too many variables involved (guitars used, type of amp and particular amp of that model, type of tubes and age of tubes in amp at that time, which microphone was used and where was that microphone placed on the speaker, which speaker and cab was used, was the cab open or closed back and what was the size of the cab, the size of the room it was recorded in, also how the recording room was treated, the type of guitar and pickups etc.) I simply try to dial in sounds that I like and feel that work well for what I am playing or recording :-)

Great video thanks for .. but ...if you allow me .. there’s a lot of reverb in your room mean too much !!!! .. try to get it treated.. Some foam here and there will resolve definitely this serious problem ! And help to get a good result .. And again thank you 🙏 for the generosity and time spent to make this tutorial.

Just got my Helix LT and was frustrated setting up tones. Not anymore! This was very helpful. Using the HX Edit makes a huge difference. The only question I have at this point is how to use the foot switch to switch between snapshots. Other than that great tone...finally!

Just got my Helix, very informative on workflow and patch creation! Thank you so much (subscribed)! I notice that you put the dynamics at the end of the chain and the effects post amp/cab. As a new guitar player I have been seeing all the how-to videos put the dynamics first then the drive then the effects then the amp. What are the advantages/disadvantages of your placement in the signal path versus the other guys?
@JasonSadites
@JasonSadites 5 лет назад
Thanks so much and my pleasure Mike :-) I actually talk about the compressor placement quite early on in this video.

@@JasonSadites Thanks for the reply, yeah I have watched a lot more of your videos and better understand it. I knew that you said you did it because of it being more of a "Mastering" the overall levels and such but at that point I guess I didnt see the advantage/disadvantage part. Not sure I am 100% on it now either but understand it better after watching more of your videos. Thank you again for terrific videos, you convey the information in a very understandable manner.
