I bought one of these from BG a while ago. I must have got a faulty one because my pencil does not hold tight, I might try wrapping a bit of tape round the pencil to make it tighter. On most Chinese tools I have, I have found the tolerances are far to broad and the finish rather poor.
I NEED TO KNOW: Did the scribe line you made at 7:00 stay equidistant from the edge, on the compound curve? The radius from the scribe point to the contact points on the rollers changes, depending on the radius of the work piece, and whether it is convex or concave, so there must be slight variation in the scribe location. Yes? Is this a limitation to be aware of?
Hi Monty 😊 It was very close on this example, but a tighter curve would be less accurate. The tool is great for circles and straight edges, but maybe not for tighter compound curves. I would have loved an option to adjust the roller distance in relation to the marking tip. It would be a great improvement 😊 ॐ
I am impressed by the quality of some of these tools Bram 😊 I can't fault this one. I hope things are good there mate. Our love and blessings to you and Les 😊 ॐ
Hey, that looks like a super wee tool, I like it! Your final remark anticipated my question - could you mount a scribing or cutting blade in it? I was thinking of purfling cutting or similar sort of work. Cheers Chris, all my love and God's blessings on you all.
I have the same idea Mark 😊 As soon as I saw this tool, I thought about a purfling cutter for mountain dulcimers. It should work great due to the long body of the instrument. I will try and make a blade for it. I'm thinking about a 7mm spindle with a slot cut in it and then mount it in the holder 😊 I will at least end up with a mini marking knife 😁 Blessing and love from us all ॐ
That looks like an interesting tool Glenn 😊 Thank you for the idea. My wife has a professional craft knife set that mounts scalpel blades in an aluminium shaft, but we can't locate it since moving. It must be a box somewhere and I'm sure it would fit this tool. If not I will try and mount a scalpel blade in a 7mm wooden shaft 😊 ॐ
To be honest Rob, it wouldn't be difficult to create something similar and probably less complicated with better functionality. I do like it though and I'm sure you could find a lot more uses than I have shown. I get sent these things to try out and it could be good for someone that doesn't have the skill or interest in making their own 😊 ॐ
The Wood Yogi that would be a nice surprise...or...would have been a nice surprise. Heck I’m surprised right now! Always enjoy your emails...as far as I’m concerned, you’re one of the greatest of the greats. 😊
There is no name or number on the tool. The box was also plain without any information. I actually find that surprising because the quality is so high and would have be of great benefit for the manufacturer to have given it a reference for purchase 😊 ॐ
I don't have anything similar to compare with it, but I think it come in very handy Frank. The funny thing is that I was looking through an old sketch book of ideas for tools and this is almost identical to something I planned to make a couple of years ago 😁 ॐ
