Transcript:
Renca is portraying as 4 people- Stanley’s mom (SM) and dad (SD), Stanley himself (S), and Stanley’s girlfriend (SG).
Start scene:
SM- Oh honey!
SD- mm-mm yeah?
SM- Stanley is coming this afternoon. He says his girlfriend is coming next week and she is Deaf!
SD- Deaf? Oh cool, okay.
SM- You know what, I think we should learn some basic sign language for her. You know? Make her feel welcome in this home.
SD- (grunts) sure go ahead and order whatever works.
SM- Ok so there is this sign language “bundle” thing and it will be shipped here tonight.
(A few hours later) (knocking on door)
The door opens and there is a “gift” by the door. A robot is gift wrapped with a red bow on top.
The robot is picked up and captioned reads “squeak squeak”
SD- What is that?!
(Ominous music playing)
SM clicks on a remote
Robot begins to move and there is a sign that says “not a teacher” taped on the chest. Robot begins to speak- Hello. My name is Sally. I have been verified by hearing people. I will teach you the sign WRONG
SD- uhh are you sure you’re pushing the right buttons ?
The robot begins to have some malfunctions and the sign for “wrong” is put on repeat. (Clank clank, rattling, whirring, screeching)
Text reads WRONGRONGWRONG
S- Gasp, mom, dad- what are you doing?
SM- (shrieks!) Oh Stanley! Hi! (ahem)
Robot goes awol and dies down.
S- No no, you gotta learn from the Deaf experts! Ok, here is this app, ok so you just download it, learn the basics for free then you subscribe for more of an in-depth sign language.
SM clicks on it.
Lingvano app comes on and shows where you can click on to learn sign language.
(One week later) Stanley is sitting with his parents and girlfriend.
SD signs GOOD MORNING
SG- oh! Your parents learned sign language? Aww.
SM signs WANT ORANGE JUICE?
SG- yes (heart touch) I want Orange Juice.
