Thanks. CentoS is wonderful for servers but makes a horrible desktop. I run it on my server but there's not much to it... We shall see. :)

Nerd culture and all things nerdy has become the cool, hip thing in recent times (2018). It's fun to see things that was once synonymous with "loser" get turned on its head, but unfortunately, another dreaded bug comes out, which is the "phantom nerds" (fake people who claim to be nerdy or claim to be appreciative of nerd culture, like uh, oh I dunno, Jessica Nigri).

Abdul Hussain True.... But I find people's superficial fascination with all things "tech" highly annoying... Also feeds arrogance & stupidity - people think they "know stuff" because they have access to the net & can "look things-up" There's more "tech" in a blade of grass than in a datacentre - all the nerds bathing in EMF ( WiFi, 3G, 4G Bluetooth etc ) Neutering their brains & testicles in the process ( sperm count is down by 40% in the last 40 years.... any other species & it would be an extinction level event...& it is... ) I love it & I hate it!!! Technology certainly has not brought about the world that I was hoping for when I got into tech, with the sole intention of making this place better for all.... ;-)

Abdul Hussain Thanks for being on the same wavelengh :-) The current "safe" exposure to EMF radiation are based on archaic models from the 1960's..... where they pump enough RF into your cells as to the temperature going up by some amount of degrees ( ? ) Someone will bag me for not quoting SAR levels but let's just say that those more curious look-up SAR exposure models for themselves.. When you add the currently observable bio photonic spectrum inter-cellular communication that we've only been aware of for some decades, I'm sure you'ed get a very different picture.... Coupled with our "new" awareness of the human body as a Microbiome & this optical communication being faster than electrical & used by cell & organ communication of our Microbiome in a state of conscious agreement & life sustenance & communication & health It's funny how our RF Cellular (insert Band-wight here.. ) communication affects the human cellular network The "roll out of 5G" is ment to include the rollout of some stupendous amount of transmitting micro-towers... Unfortunetely their impact on humans won't be anything but "micro" - there are sirius health hazards - with increasing human exposure by orders of magnitude of the current amount... I formally studied electrical engineering for a number of years & am by no means speaking as a "flat earther greenie" here There are serius implications in exposing ourselves to ever more RF & I can't believe how "home communication & WiFi & radio everything around the house, pushed as "cool" has taken off without people thinking of what they are doing....;-) I mean I can clearly "feel it in the air" in new office buildings & libraries in particular that seem to have "commercial strenght WiFi Hotspots" other people who are "RF" sensitive - add your comment here :-)

Not entirely sure if this will help, but you might consider Codeproject.com ...The sign-up is free, and there's reasonable coverage over a LOT of code/languages. They also have forums and you can "rub elbows" digitally with some gifted talent/skill online while exploring options... including (but not limited to) suggesting projects and collaborative efforts with other programmers/developers. ;o)

Have you tried running your EPROM programmer in Linux using Wine? www.winehq.org/ they've made quite a few improvements recently.

If your EPROM programmer is connected through USB, you can run Windows in Virtualbox and connect the EPROM through to Windows, it part of the Virtualbox menu for the Guest.

Joe made this point in a few of his videos.... Running Windows programs on Linux, you may as well just continue to use Windows. The idea is there are many programs that run on Linux that are like Windows programs and often they are better. Wine is a good tool if you could get it to work. If you're using a virtual machine a lot, just use Windows

I haven't done anything about UEFI because I run old junk machines that don't have it... I do have a laptop that is UEIF, though. The best bet is to just let the installer do the partitioning if you don't need anything fancy. That's what I did. :)

@@EzeeLinux ok. I do like the partitioning scheme I mentioned above from your other video. Allowed me to jump distos without an issue. And with the machine I'm talking about I also want to try to have SSD system and external for home type of scheme and I can't do that letting the machine make the partitions. Ahh well I guess it is what it is, but wouldn't be a bad idea to make a video of it... Lol ... Would help round out your tutorials section.... Hint hint haha I can't be the only one that wants to know. Thanks again for the great videos, you've made things alot easier with my new to me Linux laptop

SystemD was red Hat's attempt at copyrighting the Linux world... When that crap started invading everything, I switched to FreeBSD and never looked back !!!!!

@@lepidoptera9337 At least in professional contexts you might have to use 3rd party scripts that explicitly (shebang) or implicitly (Bashisms) need newer Bash versions. Many (in words: many many) Stack Overflow solutions you might try to copy & paste depend on newer Bash versions (though zsh is eager to be compatible). Of course that touches the level where you might be forced to compile programs from source especially "against" your system. [NOTE: I managed to have a typo in "Bashisms", now corrected]

Wasn't SDDM abandoned?

@Sand Man SDDM is not abandoned, in fact, the latest release was just 2.5 months ago. SDDM is now the default display manager for KDE Plasma (starting with 5.0), Hawaii DE, and LXQt recommends it for default as well. On the other hand, KDM is deprecated/retired in 2014.

I found it to be an interesting surprise when upgrading a couple systems from Jessy to Stretch recently.

I din't miss it, I just left it out. This vid concentrates on running programs. Package management is very important but not necessary to boot and run a distribution. :)

please make a detailed video on all the package managers of popular distributions in detail. I think people would really love to know what you've to say about.

It would be a short video... Pangaea Managers are really not that different from distro to distro... Many have the same commends.

What you just said is pretty much the Arch Linux philosophy... There are so many distros because there can be so many distros with Linux. Each one is some person's or company's vision of what Linux should be.. :)

But who even came up with that idea of distros? I mean, installing software with a package manager is easier than installing something on Windows if it's not in the Microsoft Store. So where even is the need or benefit of this prebundling? And just think of all the overhead and countless manhours that are wasted on this.

I wouldn't say it's wasted... Creating a Linux distribution is actually quite easy; the hard part is supporting it and gathering a community around it. Some folks are very good at that and they have come up with some innovative ideas that helped every Linux distribution. :)

But couldn't you drastically reduce the amount of support needed, if everybody just starts with the same kernel instead of 1000+ distinct distros? Also, isn't gathering a community for your distro a bad thing, if you thereby fracture the Linux community?

It's not really only *his* point 1 to be fair (and it's part of why forum threads keep melting when a debate about systemd starts - a lot of people do see Systemd blown 'all to hell' just like that and don't like it)

no..it isn't the same. DOS ...IS an os Linux is a KERNEL..a CORE that can be used to build an os. within ONLY the Linux kernel..ya can't do jack crap ..that's the difference
